The airport Swedavia work to constantly develop and improve the ten airports to manage the increasing demand on effective national and international travels. Umeå Airport has been in operation since May 1962 and has a central role in the region, among other thing because of the closeness to Umeå City. There is only four kilometers between the airport and the city center of Umeå. Since the inauguration the airport has continued to develop both in terms of its buildings and passenger numbers, but also due to the fact that many airlines have chosen to traffic Umeå. During the last five years the number of travelers via the airport has increased with more than seven percent. Among the airlines that traffic Umeå Airport is SAS, Norwegian, BRA, Finnair and Air Baltic. To meet the demands of the present and future and to make the travelers stay at the airport more pleasant, the airport has experienced a number of reconstructions and extensions over the years.
