RULES OF EXHIBITION HORTICULTURAL & HOMECRAFT SECTION NON MEMBERS OF THE SOCIETY PAY FOR ADMISSION TO THE SHOW 1. Classes are open to everyone, except where otherwise stated. 2. No competitor may have more than ONE entry in any class, and no exhibit may be entered in more than one class 3. All exhibits in the Flower and Vegetable Classes (but not in the Floral Art) must have been grown on land owned or cultivated by the competitor 4. All exhibits must be the work of the competitor and must with the exception of wines be made in the last 12 months, No fresh cream to be used in any cookery classes. 5. In awarding prizes in the Handicraft Section, originality, suitability of materials, pattern and stitch are considered. For all Handicraft entries, including Children s Classes, exhibitors must indicate on the entry form whether this is an original design. 6. The Committee may refuse any entry, sub-divide any class, determine the class in which an exhibit may be judged and withhold any prize. In the Children s Classes if more than 11 entries are received in a class, a Fifth Prize will be given. 7. The Committee may appoint a member or members to inspect the gardens of competitors before the Show. 8. The Judges may withhold or divide any prize, their decision shall be final. 9. Protests or objections must be lodged, in writing, with the Horticultural Secretary before 2.00p.m. on Show Day. 10. All Winners to be responsible for the engraving of Trophies. 11. In the event of the show being cancelled due to circumstances out of our control Horticultural entry money may be held until the following year s show to save on administration. INSTRUCTIONS TO COMPETITORS ENTRY FEES: Adults 50p per entry Children under 16 years 10p per entry All competitors under 16 years of age on Show Day entering in CHILDREN S CLASSES must state their name and age in years and months on the entry forms. Entries must be made out on the forms provided and be forwarded, together with remittance for entry fees, to reach the Horticultural Society Secretary BEFORE SUNDAY 23rd July 2017 A LATE ENTRY FEE OF 1 WILL BE ADDED FOR EACH ENTRY RECEIVED AFTER THIS DATE. The Secretary will supply special Competition Labels to each competitor, these labels must be sealed by the competitor and FIRMLY ATTACHED TO EACH EXHIBIT according to the class number stated thereon. Competitors must stage their exhibits in the Tent BEFORE 10.00am on Show Day, when the tent will be closed for judging. The Committee will take the greatest of care of all exhibits but it is a condition of entry that the Society will not be responsible for any loss or damage of same. In order to collect exhibits and prize money competitors must present their prize cards at the horticultural tent at 3.30pm. PRIZE MONEY WILL BE PAID OUT IN THE TENT AT 4.00p.m.

THE NAYLOR CHALLENGE CUP: Will be awarded to the most successful competitor in the Vegetable Classes. Competitors must be resident in Hawkshead or the neighbouring civil parishes of Skelwith, Claife, Coniston or Satterthwaite. THE HUGHES TROPHY: Will be awarded to the competitor with the Best Decorative Exhibit in the floral art classes. THE WINIFRED HEELIS CUP: Will be presented to the competitor with the most points in the Floral Art Classes. THE ATTWOOD TROPHY: Will be awarded to the exhibitor with the most points in the Horticultural & Homecraft Section of the Show. THE RUSLAND TROPHY: Will be awarded to the competitor with the most points in the Children s Art Classes. THE HAWKSHEAD CO-OPERATIVE CENTENARY TROHPY: Will be awarded to the exhibitor under 16 years of age, with the most points in the Children s Classes. THE MACAN TROPHY: Will be awarded to the competitor with the best Exhibit in the Handicraft Classes. THE JOHN CLEGG TROPHY: Will be awarded to the amateur photographer with the Best Exhibit in class 134 THE SANDYS TROPHY: Will be awarded to the competitor with the most points in the Vegetable Classes. THE OUTGATE TROPHY & A SPECIAL COOKERY PRIZE: Will be awarded to the competitor with the most points in the Cookery Classes. THE BETTY TAYLOR TROPHY: Will be awarded to the competitor with the Best Exhibit in the Cookery Classes. THE JACQUELYN MUIR TROPHY: Will be awarded to the competitor under 16 years, with the Best Exhibit in the Children s Cookery Classes. THE HAYES GARDEN WORLD PERPETUAL CHALLENGE TROPHY: Will be awarded for the Best Garden with the most attractive planting of flowers designed to enhance a residential property. A Local Class. THE DEWHURST SHIELD: Will be awarded to the competitor under 16 years of age, with the Best Exhibit in the Children s Handicraft Classes.

THE JOHN TODD TROPHY: Will be awarded to the competitor with the Best Exhibit in the Vegetable Classes (not including the Display of Vegetables) THE HAWKSHEAD ARTISTS CHALLEGE CUP: Will be awarded for the best exhibit in the Art Classes. THE GRANVILLE HARTLEY MEMORIAL TROPHY: Will be awarded to the Competitor with the most points in art classes. THE JOAN RAMSBOTTOM TROPHY: Will be awarded to the competitor with the most points in the children s cookery classes. THE PRESIDENT S TROPHY: Will be awarded for the President s favourite exhibit, chosen from all classes. THE YOUNG ACHIEVERS AWARD: Will be awarded to the competitor 8 years and under with the most points in the children s classes. THE HAWKSHEAD OUTDOOR LTD CHALLENGE TROPHY: Will be awarded to the commercial property with the most attractive floral display. A Local Class. THE HARRY PARKER TROPHY: Will be awarded for the best exhibit in the children s art classes. THE BIRKWRAY TROPHY: Will be awarded to the competitor with the most points in the egg classes. THE HAWKSHEAD RELISH TROPHY: Will be awarded for the Best Exhibit in the Preserve and Chutney classes. THE JOY HODGSON MEMORIAL TROPHY: Will be awarded for the secretary s favourite exhibit chosen from all classes. THE HAYDOCK TROPHY: Will be awarded for the Best Exhibit in the Flower Classes.
