Organic Demonstration Farms 2012 Dates for Farm Walks in 2012 Official Open Days are organised by Teagasc during the course of the year the dates of the 2012 Open Days are as follows. Please do not arrive on any of these holdings unannounced visits must be confined to the official open days thank you the name of the representative at each of these walks is indicated below. About 3 miles out that road pass Mullahoran Football pitch on the right. Continue past this and take next turn on the right. See Church up this road. Pass the church and come to T junction at school. Turn left there and take the second turn right off this road. The house is the second on the left up this lane. From Ballybay, take the Castleblayney Road. Travel for 1½ miles and take the second right turn sign for Lough Egish. 4th house on the right (red brick). Just before you enter Glencorrib turn left at crossroads (right turn leads to Shrule). There will be a sign for Glasvalley Farm at this turn off. Follow this small road for about 1½ miles until you are at Glasvalley Farm FROM CORK CITY AND BLARNEY TAKE N20 MAIN CORK- MALLOW ROAD. GO THROUGH RATHDUFF WHICH IS ON THE MAIN N20, APPROX 3KM FROM RATHDUFF. TAKE THE FIRST LEFT - GO OVER THE RAILWAY BRIDGE AND IMMEDIATELY TAKE THE NEXT LEFT. Pass warehouse and office on the left and take next farm entrance on the left. Wednesday July 25 th 2012 at 2 John McLoughlin, Moneymore, Trim, Co Meath From Dublin take the N3; take Exit 5 for Trim. Take the first exit on the roundabout just before Trim (the bypass road). Take the second exit at the next roundabout and you are on the Longwood Road. 2½ miles down that road turn left there is a sign for a cul de sac (there is also a sign for County Meath Golf Club). The farm is almost at the end of the cul de sac (if you get to the entrance gates to the golf club on the right hand side you gone about 100 yards too far). Tuesday July 31 st 2012 at 2 Organic Inspector Pat Lalor, Ballard Organic Farm, Ballard, Kilbeggan, Co Westmeath Oliver Dixon, Ahena, Claremorris, Co Mayo In Kilbeggan take a left (if travelling west) on to the Clara road R436, located at the Athlone end of the town. After 2½ miles turn right at the brown fingerboard sign for Ballard. Ballard House is half (½) a mile further on the left and there is a big rock at the gate with Ballard written on it - also iron gates and a cattle grid. Proceed down the avenue, keep left to the back of the house where there is room to park Take Ballinrobe Road out of Claremorris. Take first turn right (sign-posted Ballyglass, Ballintubber). From this point 3.9 miles, turn left at stone sign which reads Cloonaugh Knockgaffey. 2 storey house at the end of this road. Farm is located halfway between Kilcullen and Castledermot, just off the N9 Dublin/Carlow road. Going south follow this road past the Kilcullen turnoff; 3 miles further on is The Priory Pub/Restaurant on the left. 3 miles after this, take the left Colbinstown/ Dunlavin Road and the farm is 200m up this road on left after turn. Travelling north go past O Reilly s Texaco Garage on left; 500m after this is the Colbinstown/Dunlavin Road and the farm is 200m up this road on left. Parish Centre is before the church on the left. From Claremorris take the Castlebar/Balla Road. when you reach Balla, take a left turn for Mayo Abbey. Having passed Lisavard, drive approx 3 km. At 2.5 km pass through an S bend. 0.5m further turn off main road (N71) at sign for Reenascreena. Follow this road straight until fork; take right fork and again drive straight for 1 km (narrow road). Property (2 fields) is on the left just before/at the T junction. Gate is 30m from T junction on the left. From Macroom, take the Milltstreet Road (R582). After 2km take the right turn at a four road crossroads (with a farmhouse on the corner and a sign for Coillte on the right hand side). Drive for another half a kilometre to another four road crossroads and turn left (with a new house on the crossroads). Drive another half a kilometre and the entrance is on the right hand side with a stone wall and trees along the avenue. For example, new entrants to the Organic Farming Scheme must completed a Fetac Level 5 introductory course in organic principles and practices and must also submit a Business Plan - the template for Limited Organic Demonstration Farm Walks 2012 5
the business plan is also available from the office. Organic producers who are already either inconversion or who hold full organic status and whose REPS 3 contracts expired, can also apply for payment under the Organic Farming Scheme. For these latter entrants, the requirement to complete the training course is waived, however, submission of the Business Plan is a compulsory requirement.
