Happy Holidays All!! Director s Saddle What a great year it has been so far! I hope that everyone had a Great Thanksgiving. Just a reminder that our NCCF Christmas Toy Drive is December 8 th and starts at LVHD at 9 am and arrives at Red Rock at 10am. I m hoping to see all of you there. Everyone has done a great job of promoting this event and looking forward to a bunch of gifts for the kids and their families. Also, please make sure to get your tickets for our Christmas Party on the 15 th at the Sun Coast. As always, this party promises to be a good time. I want to also thank everyone that has taken the time to respond to our survey monkey that went out a few weeks ago requesting recommendations for rides and trips for the next year. Our team has been working hard to put together as many of the requests as possible and will continue to do so as the year progresses. November was a great month with some really cool rides and events. November saw us take a trip to Sierra Vista in Arizona, Calico Ghost town in California, we had a fun LOH, Progressive dinner ride in which we were able to visit several of our members homes to enjoy some great food and wonderful company and SNHOG presented some of our military families with some much needed financial relief through our NOP efforts. This year we have added quite a few new HOG Chapter members and look forward to spending time with them and getting to know them better. Our dealerships have done a great job at promoting our chapter at the sale of each new Harley that is sold and I hope that this can continue. That being said, I want to say Thank you to Don Andress, Tim Cashman, Nick Rivellini, Mike Plehn, Fred Harrell, Fred Rosta, Samantha Cashman, Randy Compton, and all of the Service and Sales Teams that have supported SNHOG this past year! As final note, it has been my pleasure to serve as your Director this year and I could not have done it without the assistance and support of the entire Primary Board and support staff!!!!!!! Thanks for all that you do and all that you have done!!! Have a Happy Holiday and a Safe New Year!! Sincerely Randy Page!2

Where did this year go? Road Captain Article The year 2018 started off with the first ride Hair of the Hog. We had a great turn out around 40 plus bikes and most signed up for Ride 365. How lucky we are to have such nice weather, many turned out for the Palm Springs ride in January much fun was had in the first overnighter. Many more rides throughout the year included day and night rides, midweek rides, and double overnighters like Glenwood Springs Colorado. We had rides through scenic national parks. We also held safety training class offered for all riders by Steve Ritchey. If you didn t get to take this class, make sure you do next time as it will make you a better rider or passenger. As we end 2018 we can look back and appreciate what a great chapter we have and how lucky we are to be able to enjoy safe riding throughout the year. I look forward too many more rides and getting to know more of our new members. As a prospective from a new member Ron Turouske Title: The Good Ride I have been riding for over 58 years, and this article reflects that perspective. Riding with the group, and riding solo, are not polar opposites, but they do require a change in attitude. When riding solo, you maintain safety standards that reflect your singular orientation to the world around you. Now, the same applies for riding with the group, but there is also the added responsibilities of learning and executing ride safety protocols - hand signs, formation requirements, basic courtesy, etc. I bring this up because of an experience I had this summer. Every year I ride with a group of old high school buddies. They have a variety of bikes (only two Harleys, unfortunately ) but have never ridden with any clubs or groups. It s pretty much the same every year. When I try to explain the importance of basic group safety procedures such as hand signals and formation requirements, they usually respond with: I m going to ride my own ride. And that s fine if you re a solo rider. But when you re with a group, it is basic courtesy, let alone safer, to establish riding protocols. This year our ride took us through a lot of populated areas, such as San Francisco. We were separated time and time again, because a number of folks in the group like to hang back. We were constantly pulling over and waiting for members to catch up or, in one case, lost one rider for most of the day. Additionally, when we were on the freeway, the five of us were separated by more than a quarter-mile, and on more than one occasion the bike trailing the rear missed a turn-off due to intervening traffic. Needless to say this was not only frustrating, but dangerous for the entire group. As a point of fact, in Oregon we were separated, and I was hit by a truck at an intersection because he was watching the other bikes. The SNHOG group does an absolutely admirable job with group riding safety protocols. Road Captains and Scout s know what they re doing and make it safe for everyone. And that s the point of this article. If you re going to ride in the group, you can certainly ride your own ride from a point of comfort and experience, but it s not only respectful to your fellow riders, but safer to understand and practice established safety protocols. Ron Turouske - proud SNHOG member Ride safe, Road Captain Ron Page!3
