NAFIC ACCESS STATEMENT FOR NATIONAL AGRI FOOD INNOVATION CAMPUS LAKESIDE CONFERENCE CENTRE
This access statement does not contain personal opinions as to our suitability for those with access needs, but aims to accurately describe the facilities and services that we offer all our guests/visitors. Access Statement for National Agri Food Innovation Campus Lakeside Conference Centre Introduction The Lakeside Conference Centre is situated in a pleasant 80 acre parkland setting and is part of the National Agri-food Innovation Campus. The campus offers laboratory, office and specialist manufacturing space for science based occupiers. The Campus is located in the beautiful countryside of North Yorkshire and is conveniently placed approximately 7 miles from the historic city of York. The campus is adjacent to the A64 and a regular bus service connects us to York and other key locations. York enjoys direct rail connections to a number of destinations including Leeds, Hull, Manchester and London. Yorkshire s main international airport - Leeds Bradford with its direct connections to many international and UK locations is only an hour away. The Lakeside Conference Centre overlooks a picturesque lake and the suite includes a 250 seat conference theatre and flexible meeting rooms with full audio-visual support and a full range of catering. Our dedicated conference team will arrange everything to ensure your event runs smoothly, from setting up the rooms to providing a full catering service in line with your requirements. If your conference is for more than a day, we can even take away the hassle of finding accommodation for you. There is ample secure free car parking adjacent to the Conference Centre with accessible parking bays. We look forward to welcoming you. The nearest railway station is York which is approximately 7 miles away. Taxis are available at the station (accessible taxis can be booked in advance by contacting 01904 623332). There is also a regular Coastliner bus service from the train station to the nearest bus stop to the Campus, please alight at Fera on the A64 (the bus stop is a 5-10 minute walk over dedicated tarmac footpaths). Car Parking and Arrival There is ample free secure car parking on site with 6 clearly marked accessible car parking bays immediately adjacent to the main reception and Conference Centre. The conference organiser is required to provide a list of all expected delegates in advance of their meeting/event and individual delegates are asked to give their name to our security staff on arrival at the entrance to the site. The security staff will then direct delegates where to park and point out the main reception and Conference Centre. The dedicated Conference Centre car parking will be clearly sign posted. The car park surface is tarmac with a block brick path leading to the Conference Centre. The car park is well lit at night. There is a drop off point at the main entrance with no dropped kerb. The main entrance double width door is automatic.
Main Entrance / Reception / Welcome Area Our reception is on the ground floor and has level access throughout, the floor surface is smooth stone flagging. There is a lowered section of the reception desk. Our reception staff will point out the accessible toilets on the ground floor and the lift to the first floor Conference Centre.
Public Areas - Halls, Stairs, Landings, Corridors All public areas, halls, stairs, landings and lifts are well lit with ceiling lights. Corridors are 1780mm wide and the floor covering is smooth stone flagging or carpet tiles. There is a lift which is 1100mm wide with tactile buttons and the number for each floor clearly marked. Campus Restaurant The Campus restaurant which is open to conference delegates to use is situated on the ground floor and has level entry access from the main reception. Double doors into the restaurant are normally open during core operating hours (8am - 4pm). The restaurant has level access throughout and the tables are well spaced apart. The restaurant has a combination of self service and staff serving hot food. The catering staff are more than happy to assist customers with any specific requirements. The flooring is tiles and short pile carpet tiles.
Public Toilets Public toilets can be found on the ground floor in reception and on the first floor next to the Conference Centre. Both sets of toilets have one wider cubicle measuring 700mm with vertical rails either side of the toilet. A unisex accessible toilet can be found on the ground floor and is described below: Entrance door 820mm wide and level entry into the toilet. 850mm transfer space to the left of the toilet when facing the toilet. The toilet height is 460mm. There are vertical rails either side of both basin and toilet. An emergency cord. The toilet is well lit with overhead lighting and there is a low level light switch. The flooring is tiles. There are lever taps on the sinks. All other public WCs have the same lighting and flooring as above with sensor taps. Conference and Meeting Rooms Our Conference Centre is on the first floor and can be accessed from the main reception via a flight of 25 stairs with a landing midway or by a lift. All of the meeting rooms, exhibition and circulation space have level access.
Our main conference room has a hearing loop system available on request. All rooms have natural lighting and overhead lighting which can be controlled by dimmer switches in the main conference room. The flooring is short pile carpet tiles. The nearest public toilet is on the first floor in an adjacent corridor, the nearest accessible toilet is on the ground floor next to the lift. Additional Information All our staff receive regular training that includes disability awareness training. We have a set of evacuation procedures - should you require assistance a member of staff will meet you in the Conference Centre and help you with evacuation. We have an evacuation chair to assist. Clear signage is used throughout the Campus and Conference Centre. Free Wi-Fi Internet access is available in the Conference Centre and throughout the Campus. We can offer a list of nearby hotels and attractions and their Access Statements where these are available. Our reception staff are happy to book taxis for visitors to the site and can pre book accessible taxis on request. We welcome assistance animals such as guide dogs on site but would ask that you inform us when registering your delegates (pre arrival).
