TITLE: Crime Update from the DC Police Union, City Wide DC Crime Summary April 1 st 7 th MPD Police Officer Dorian DeSantis was awarded the Congressional Badge of Bravery Wednesday, April 1 st, for his heroic acts during the Washington Navy Yard shooting in 2013. Officer Desantis was shot in his vest, but he managed to bring others to safety before firing back at the shooter. Demitric Joseph Green, 38, was shot and killed in Congress Heights Monday night. No information is available at this time and police are searching for the suspect. A 16-year-old was fatally shot in the Fort Dupont park neighborhood area Monday night. Jamyra Gallmon, 21, was arrested Wednesday and charged with fatally stabbing David Messerschmitt in a Downtown hotel in February. According to reports, authorities believe robbery was the motive in the homicide. Melissa Langley, 20 was arrested yesterday, and was charged with stabbing a Metro station manager. According to reports, Ms. Langley stabbed the victim after he refused to let her access the Metro without paying. Jerome Jackson, 11, was also reported missing by authorities. He was last seen Friday near the Stadium Armory Metro station. Authorities are asking for the public s assistance in locating him. A video was released of a person of interest in an armed robbery in the LeDroit park neighborhood. Authorities are asking for the public s help in identifying and locating the suspect. American University students held a rally against sexual violence yesterday demanding that the school s president call for mandatory sexual assault prevention education. The National Zoo increased security for Easter Monday. The National Zoo traditionally has held a Family Day event on Easter Monday, but it has been marred with violence in recent years. A 16-yearold was fatally shot in the Fort Dupont neighborhood at about 7:40 PM, and the second victim was killed in the Congress Heights neighborhood at about 8:30 PM. The two incidents are not believed to be related and no other information is available at this time. So far this year there have been 25 homicides and 47 instances of sexual abuse reported in the District. There were 7 instances of sexual abuse and 21 armed robberies with a gun reported this past week in DC. Assaults with a gun have increased by 21% compared to this time last year. Scammers used the cards that initially appeared to swipe and pay like normal cards. However, in actuality, they threw credit card machines offline and cost business owners thousands of dollars. MPD has issued a warning to all merchants regarding this scam, and keep an eye out for them.
