These training weekends have been specially designed to help you get a feel for your event whilst giving you an opportunity to test your fitness, meet our trek leaders and other people that will be taking on a challenge. These trekking days and weekends are also great if you just fancy a weekend trekking through some of the UK s most stunning scenery. Finding out your walking boots rub is the last thing you want half way into a 100 km challenge or 2,000 m up a mountain so these training days and weekends give you a chance to test out your kit and decide whether there is anything that you may be missing. You may also be able to pick up some tips from our experienced leaders who have taken part in numerous challenges in the past. Peak District, Brecon Beacon and Snowdon general training Taking on the Peak District, Brecon Beacons or Snowdon will certainly help prepare you for the challenge ahead, giving you a chance to try out your kit and test your fitness. Our fully qualified Mountain Leaders will take you on a trek that will give you an idea of what to expect on an Action Challenge event. Whether you re trekking in the mountain range in South Wales, reaching the summit in Snowdon or heading for the hills in the Peak District, we re here to help you train! Peak District itinerary Please arrive in the Edale area of the Peak District after 6 pm on the first day. We will reserve a bed for you at the YHA and you will be welcomed by our staff, a hot supper and a quick briefing about the weekend ahead. Based in Edale, the start of the famous Pennine Way, we head off early this morning and trek up along Grindsbrook Clough before reaching the rugged, lonely and beautiful Kinder Scout. We continue our walk across the Moors before returning to Edale. DAY 3 Today is a short 5.8 mile route, which takes us through the Vale of Edale and up to the Hollins Cross for fantastic views across the Peak District National Park. We then head back to the YHA and set off home. DAY 3 Snowdon itinerary Please arrive in Nant Gwynant anytime after 6 pm on the first day. We will reserve a bed for you at Bryn Gwynant YHA where you will be welcomed by our staff. Today s walk starts off trekking through the forest, passing beautiful waterfalls before joining the Bwlch Path to the top of Snowdon. It is a tough ascent but we are rewarded with fantastic views across Snowdonia, before we descend back down the Watkin Path. We walk a circular route directly from our Youth Hostel, spending around 4 hours walking up and over the hills before we stop for lunch in front of a stunning mountain panorama. We then head back to the hostel and will officially finish at around 2 pm. Brecon Beacon itinerary Please arrive at the Brecon Beacon YHA anytime after 6 pm. You will be welcomed by our staff, a nice hot supper and a quick briefing on the weekend ahead. Today s walk is a circular route of 10 miles, starting with tackling the Brecon Beacons highest peak Pen-y-fan. We continue across the top of the Brecons before descending back to the YHA. DAY 3 Today s route is a small 4.5 mile circular route, joining a path that ascends to the top of the Brecon Beacons, descending back down from Pen-y-fan. Peaks: 1-3 April & 24-25 June Snowdon : 22-24 April, & 9-11 Sep Brecon: 7-9 Oct All inclusive weekend cost of 170 Two nights in comfortable YHA accommodation. Snowdon Night Summit planning for Kilimanjaro? This trek is specially designed to help those training to climb the highest mountain in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro! The night you attempt the summit can be daunting, so we have designed a training weekend replicating what to expect which will help you prepare for the toughest day of the upcoming trek. Our Snowdon night training weekend will see you trekking through the day, resting in the evening and then waking up around midnight to start the trek to the summit of Mount Snowdon. Be ready for the toughest part of the challenge and join us in bringing the Kilimanjaro summit night to the UK! itinerary We will meet at 11:00 at the Llanberis YHA to check in and collect our packed lunches before we start out trek at 12:00. We finish back at the YHA at about 15:00, giving us time to get changed for supper at our YHA. We will try to get a few hours sleep at 20:00 to prepare for our night walk. 23-24 July 24-25 September All inclusive weekend cost of 99 One night in comfortable YHA accommodation. All accommodation is on a single-sex basis. If you wish to share a room with someone you are travelling with, please specify this on your registration form. Meals will be varied and plentiful. We provide hot meals for your dinner on the Saturday and your breakfast on Sunday. We will also provide you with a packed lunch on the Saturday during the day walk and night summit. All meals are full of carbohydrates, protein and nutrients to keep us well fuelled throughout the trip. We are awoken at 00:00 by our trek leader ready to set off on our night walk for 01:00 02:00. We summit Snowdon at about 05:00 06:00 before returning back to the YHA for the chance to get a few hours sleep in before breakfast/brunch at 11:00-12:00. You will then be free to depart. *These timings may vary depending on the time of year. South Downs Way training walks Introduction South Downs Way One of the 15 National Trails in England and Wales, the South Downs was the very first bridleway National Trail in England and is the only National Trail to lie entirely within a National Park, running right through the heart of the South Downs National Park. South Downs 12 June Sign up for 20 Southease to Eastbourne The walk goes from Southease to Eastbourne following 18 miles the South Downs Way. Crossing Seven Sisters National Park before descending into the coastal town of Eastbourne. - Start: Southease Station for 10:00am - Start walk at 10:30am - Finish in Eastbourne between 18:00 19:30 hrs - Teas / coffees at the finish - All participants to bring packed lunches Route Overview Your normal trekking clothing Good walking boots Spare socks Day sack no bigger than 35 L Waterproof clothing Walking poles (optional) Bottle or platypus with at least 2 litres of water Packed lunch You will be required to bring your own packed lunch with you. North Downs Way training walk North Downs Way Guildford to Westhumble Our Training walk follows 14.5 miles of the North Downs Way begins from Guildford, climbing from the town via the Riverside Walk. From here you will pass in and out of the woods and through the beautiful county of Surrey Hills, offering beautiful views over the Valleys to the South, before eventually reaching Denbies, Dorking, where you will end the walk. North Down day walk: 31 July Sign up for 20 This is a very accessible route which can be reached easily by train from London Victoria or London Bridge. London training walks Come and join us on one of the dates listed for our Central London Walks. Starting in Blackfriars, London we will follow the Thames Path to Richmond. The walk will cover approximately 15 miles and will be fully supported. Led by an experienced Action Challenge team, this is an excellent opportunity to get advice on training, equipment and nutrition, as well as meeting other like-minded action challengers. Come along, get prepared, and get confident ahead of your challenge.
