HIAWATHA AMATEUR RADIO ASSOCIATION JANUARY 2011 MINUTES All Officers were present President, Lou Gembolis KG8NK, Vice-Pres. Lane Dawson WD8PAJ, Secretary Mike Beltz KD8JIR, and Treasurer Fred Mouser KD8JIP Meeting was called to order at 7:30 pm by Lou Gembolis KG8NK. A motion to approve the agenda by Rich N8GBA and seconded by Ralph KD8JIP. All approved Secretary s Report There was no meeting minutes for December because of the Christmas party. Mike KD8JIR submitted a list of the drawing winners from the party. Congratulations to those who won. Treasurer s Report Fred Mouser KD8JIP handed out the accounting for H.A.R.A. The last sheet showed the itemized expenses for the last quarter as well as our income. Motion to accept the Treasurer s Report by Norm W8NWD and seconded by Greg KI8AF. Motion passed. Correspondence We received a Christmas card from Gary French NJ8H and a QSO card from Tim Edwards W7INO. He was confirming CW contact with K8LOD (HARA Club) on 12/19/10, (Sunday) at 1827 UTC on the 14.052 MHz. There was no club function going on, so if you made contact with him let us know so we can send him a card. Committee Reports Repeaters/Tech. - Rich Schwenke N8GBA gave a brief report. City and NMU came to an agreement on the light bill and internet access. Ares/Races - Rich Schwenke N8GBA stated the setup is coming along. PR We need to get the word out on the Swap & Shop. Posters and radio announcements need to be put out. Old Business Dog Sled Race - We need volunteers to man the stations. The race is Feb. 19, 20 and 21. It s a long weekend. Raffle Tickets - Rich Schwenke N8GBA has them. We need to sell, sell, and sell. This is our fund raising event of the year. Swap & Shop This event is Saturday Feb. 5 at 9am. Rich Schwenke N8GBA reported the club needs help for set up at 7am and take down immediately after. Don t leave it for someone else. A little help from everyone makes short work for all involved. The club has some used equipment that will only be available at the Swap & Shop. Get it there or not at all. Christmas Party Wrap-up Lane Dawson WD8PAJ thanked everyone who attended. Everyone appears to have had a good meal and a wonderful time. Banner The new banners are here. Thanks to Jon Rylander from Lake Villa, Ill. for all his work. They really should stand out nicely at our upcoming events. New Business Ski Race January 29, Rich Schwenke N8GBA stated a need a few more volunteers. (January 28 at 4:30pm is the dinner at the dome.) General Class Classes started January 17 and run every Monday and Thursday at 6:30pm Rich Schwenke N8GBA stated the cost of the class is $20 and $20 for the book. End of Meeting Motion to conclude the meeting by Norm W8NWD and seconded by Pete KC8YTX Motion approved. Post Meeting Program Justin Titus from the NOAA weather station gave about a 45 minute power point presentation on Winter Weather. 3

PR..Happenings Our PR committee needs input from each of us if we expect them to do their part in getting the word out about our organization and amateur radio. Volunteering your time Counts! Each month many members volunteer their time for club activities some of which might include repeater maintenance, ARES, EOC operations, Life Tracker, newsletter, PR, club business, etc. All these volunteered hours and mileage can be credited to HARA and amateur radio but only if you report them. AEC Dave Thomas KD8DRF reports these numbers monthly. So at the end of each month please contact Dave with services rendered, hours and mileage.
