As longsuppressed demands for democracy erupt across North Africa and the Middle East, toppling one dictator after another, sparking civil war and humanitarian crisis, we struggle to adapt to fast-changing circumstances while naturally bracing ourselves for the worst. As a company with a presence that extends throughout the Mediterranean, and well beyond, we could anticipate major disruptions to trade and steep increases in fuel costs as the turmoil in oil-producing states sends the price of crude soaring on the international exchanges. When the impact of the dreadful events in Japan, a devastating earthquake and tsunami followed by nuclear disaster, is added to the mix, along with a continuing sovereign debt crisis in Europe, it is only reasonable to expect a slowdown in global economic growth. And yet here at Grimaldi we appear to be navigating these turbulent waters fairly well. Though bunker prices have spiralled and rising fuel costs continue to pose a challenge, trading activity through the Mediterranean has largely held up, even with countries riven with strife. At a time of such volatility, however, it is still a surprise to see how well the company is performing. In the first two months of the year, we posted operating earnings of 28 million per month and the early results for March also look very strong. At the same time, turnover is up by 11-12% on last year, albeit from a low base given the difficulties we experienced in early 2010. At the heart of that success is the performance of our core operations: the Mediterranean short sea services; our deep-sea operations linking Europe with West Africa and the Americas; and ACL, working between North America and Northern Europe. In the Mediterranean, we have worked feverishly to reduce costs while introducing new ships to the fleet and developing new and innovative routings. We have managed to reduce our fuel costs by slow steaming, rationalising services dropping a Sardinia call, for instance, between Italy and Spain during winter and by investing heavily in silicone paint treatment for our vessels. We are also renewing the fleet for greater efficiency and environmental sustainability. We have just taken delivery of the Eurocargo Alexandria, which went into service between Salerno, Cagliari and in early April. Her sistership Eurocargo Venezia has just left the Hyundai Mipo yard in South Korea for a Chinese port, where she will pick up a cargo of tractors for delivery in Nigeria before entering the Mediterranean trade. Four more similar vessels are due from the same yard in 2012. Our deep-sea services, meanwhile, have five new ships joining the fleet, but business is buoyant enough that it has had to charter in four more. ACL s transatlantic service is also competing admirably, particularly westbound, and here too we are preparing to replace all five vessels in the fleet to enhance its performance further. We believe we can enhance our ability to withstand all that an increasingly volatile world can throw at us through astute long-term planning, typified by our continuing commitment to investing in new tonnage, and by taking a unified approach to the way we do business across the Grimaldi Group. We still have much to do if we are to perform at our best. The performance of both Minoan Lines and Finnlines, while improving, still lags expectations. We are now working hard to haul both companies up to the same level as our other operations, and here I should stress that we expect every manager in the company to embrace our way of working. At Grimaldi, a disciplined commitment to the company is an essential requirement. After all, as our latest results show, we have a system that works.

Fleet development Eurocargo class fleet strengthened Christening of Eurocargo Venezia and delivery of her sistership Eurocargo Alexandria On the 10th of February a dual ceremony was held at the Hyundai Mipo Shipyard of Ulsan, Korea, on the occasion of the delivery of the ro-ro vessel Eurocargo Alexandria and the christening of her sistership Eurocargo Venezia. The vessels are part of a series of eight technologically advanced ships, ordered by the Group at the Korean shipyards. In his speech, Emanuele Grimaldi, managing director of the Group, who attended the ceremony, underlined the efforts made by the Group in the search for a better quality service for its customers: In Grimaldi we know that the advanced technological content and design of these ships, combining an exceptional cargo intake with a great operational flexibility, will immediately bring practical improvement in the operation of the Group s lines, rewarding both the shippers for their choice and the shipowners for their investment said Mr. Grimaldi. Both vessels have each a length of 200 metres, a beam of 26.5 metres and a gross tonnage of 32,644 tonnes. With a speed of 23 knots, they can carry 3,900 linear metres of rolling cargo in their 10 decks, two of which are hoistable, giving maximum flexibility in the type and quantity of freight to be loaded. Furthermore, the linear metres/surface ratio is at the top of its category. Also the rational distribution and location of the internal ramps allows the vessel to load/unload all decks simultaneously reducing the time needed for commercial operations. The Eurocargo Venezia was delivered at the end of March and will be deployed in the Group's Mediterranean Short Sea Service. The aim of this service is to move wheeled traffic from land to sea thus reducing pollution and congestion on the European road network in line with Grimaldi s policy of environmental protection. The Eurocargo Alexandria, sistership to the Eurocargo Venezia, was delivered at the beginning of February and immediately entered into service between the ports of Salerno, Cagliari and. The first two sisterships Eurocargo Genova and Eurocargo Malta of this series of units ordered by the Group at the Hyundai Mipo shipyards were delivered last summer and are currently deployed in the Mediterranean, between Genoa, Catania, Malta and Livorno. Fleet development Progress in the Group s In the first quarter of this year Costa d Avorio was launched, Togo and Gabon delivered On the 19th of January the m/vessel Costa d Avorio was launched at the Uljanik shipyard in Pula (Croatia) while the m/ vessels Togo and Gabon were delivered some days later. The launch ceremony of the Costa d Avorio, last in a series of seven sister vessels built by the Croatian shipyards, was attended by Gianluca Grimaldi, managing director of the Grimaldi Group, while the Godmother of the vessel was Mrs Annick Dedrie. The newbuilding is foreseen to be deployed on the Deep Sea Southern Express Service, connecting North Europe with West Africa, together with her five sisterships. Thanks to the new unit the current frequency of 10 days will be improved to about 8 days and at the same time increasing the cargo capacity on that trade said Gianluca Grimaldi while speaking to the guests gathered at the ceremony. The vessel completes a ten-year programme of 18 Uljanik-built units which started with the Italia, delivered in October 2001, and currently deployed in the Group s EuroAegean service. We hope the good relationship with Uljanik will continue in the future, concluded Dr Grimaldi. The multipurpose ro-ro vessel " Costa d Avorio" has a gross tonnage of 26,650 tonnes, a length of 210 metres and a width of 32 metres. With a service speed of 20 knots, her cargo capacity can vary to a maximum of 1,300 TEU or 4,000 linear metres of heavy ro/ro cargo, with an ideal cargo intake of 800 TEU plus 2,000 linear metres and 2,000 cars/vans. Following the launch of the Costa d Avorio, two newbuilt multipurpose ro-ro vessels were delivered to the Group on the 27 th of January: the " Togo and Gabon. The first, sistership to the " Costa d Avorio", was delivered from the Croatian shipyards and was immediately deployed on the Deep Sea Southern Express Service linking the ports of Amsterdam, Hamburg, Tilbury, Antwerp, Le Havre, Bilbao, Leixoes, Lisbon, Casablanca, Dakar, Lome, Luanda, Pointe Noire and Douala. Meanwhile, the m/vessel Gabon was delivered on the other side of the globe, from the Korean Hyundai Mipo 4 GNE WS

newbuilding programme MEX service entirely operated by Grimaldi As from 10 th April the co-operation with Navitrans ceases. The m/vessel Eurocargo Istanbul joins the di Roma shipyards. With a length of 210.92 metres, a width of 32.26 metres, a gross tonnage of 47,300 tonnes and a service speed of 20 knots, she has an ideal cargo intake of 2,000 cars/vans, 2,000 linear metres of rolling cargo and 800 TEU. The vessel is currently deployed on the Deep Sea North America-West Africa service, linking the U.S. ports of Jacksonville, Savannah, Baltimore, New York and Boston with West Africa. Clockwise: The Costa d Avorio slipping away towards the sea; Mr Gianluca Grimaldi while speaking to the guests; the Godmother, Mrs Annick Dedrie cutting the ribbon. As from the 10 th of April, the Mediterranean Express (MEX) service, inaugurated last October by the Grimaldi Group to link the Mediterranean to West Africa, will be entirely managed by the Group. In order to provide a better service to their respective customers on this route, the decision was taken jointly by Grimaldi and the French shipping company Navitrans, to end their cooperation, based on a "space swap agreement", through which the availability of space for freight booked by each operator was guaranteed on the vessel of the other operator. The Grimaldi vessel " di Roma, currently deployed on this route, will be joined by the ro/romultipurpose vessel Eurocargo Istanbul : with a length of 195 metres and a gross tonnage of 29,400 tonnes, the unit is able to carry, at a speed of 20 knots, 2,300 linear metres of rolling cargo and containers, as well as 500 cars/vans, or a mix of 1,400 linear metres of rolling cargo, 300 TEU and 500 cars/vans. The m/vessel Eurocargo Istanbul, owned by the Group, will be deployed on the MEX service until next September, when she will be replaced by a vessel with the same technical features of the " di Roma, ensuring, in this way, a bigger loading capacity. The introduction of this unit allows the Group to double the frequency of the MEX service from Salerno, one of the Group s major hub ports, which is connected by Grimaldi with other Eastern Mediterranean ports such as Piraeus, Izmir, Mersin, Yenikoy, Gemlik, Alexandria, Limassol, Ashdod, Beirut and Lattakia. Mediterranean A humanitarian contribution Grimaldi participates to the relief operations in the Mediterranean Following the recent and ongoing political turmoil in Libya which triggered an exodus of foreign citizens from the North African country, various ferry operators have been requested by foreign governments to repatriate their respective citizens. The Grimaldi Group has been proud to participate in this exercise, mobilizing part of its ferry fleet in a humanitarian relief operation in the Northern African country. Last February, following a request from the Chinese government, the Group dispatched two of its biggest ferries to participate in the repatriation operations. The first vessel to call the Libyan port of Benghazi was the flagship of the Group, the m/vessel "Cruise Roma", on the 24 th of February. The biggest ferry in the Mediterranean, capable of accommodating 2,300 passengers, the "Cruise Roma" embarked about 2,250 Chinese citizens, which were safely disembarked on the 26 th of February in La Valletta, Malta. Furthermore, Minoan Lines, the Greek subsidiary company of the Group, also mobilized part of its fleet. The modern highspeed ferry Knossos Palace, able to accommodate 2,100 passengers, contributed to the evacuation, on the 27 th of February by embarking 1,634 Chinese citizens, from the Libyan port of Misurata to La Valletta. After successfully concluding its voyage, the highspeed vessel "Knossos Palace", together with the Minoan fast ferry Europa Palace was deployed to perform two subsequent evacuations. From the 1 st to the 8 th of March about 3,300 Syrian nationals and citizens of other nationalities were transported from the port of Benghazi to the Syrian port of Lattakia. All the evacuated citizens flew back on charted flights to their respective countries. Following the continuous influx of thousands of refugees from Libya and Tunisia to the tiny Italian island of Lampedusa the Group was requested by the Italian Government to transfer part of these migrants to other areas of the Italian Peninsula. The Group deployed its modern ferry vessel Catania which is able to carry about 850 passengers, to transport migrants from Lampedusa to other areas of the country, where the government organised tent camps and barracks to accommodate them. In total, the vessel made three voyages from Lampedusa to other Italian ports: two to Taranto and one to Cagliari (south of the island of Sardinia) transporting respectively 1,200 and 700 migrants. 6 GNE WS

Baltic route Expanding Finnlines European network The Finnish company launches the new weekly service Kotka/ Helsinki - Zeebrugge In a further move to strengthen its fastexpanding European network and to boost wider cargo volumes, the Finnish ro/ro and passenger company Finnlines launched, at the beginning of April, a new weekly fast fixed day service between the Finnish ports of Kotka and Helsinki and the North Sea port of Zeebrugge. The Belgian port of Zeebrugge is now connected also with the Spanish port of Bilbao. The port of Zeebrugge was chosen by Finnlines, a Grimaldi Group company, because of its perfect location for unitized cargo traffics, and for its growing importance for the handling of forest industry products. Furthermore, it has very good connections to the road network, thanks to its location on the coast; in this way vessels can avoid to navigate the estuary, making transit times much shorter. Zeebrugge is also one of the most important car-handling hubs in the European Continent and the decision to start this new line follows the announcement of a string of additions to Finnlines services in the North Sea. The President and CEO of Finnlines Uwe Bakosch announced the launching of two new ro/ro vessels in April which will join the Finnlines fleet, followed in the next 18 months by four other similar vessels. The two new units will be deployed into this service, with a cargo capacity of 3,245 linear metres of rolling cargo and 900 cars, thanks to its hoistable decks. The new ships joining the fleet will enhance the importance of the auto segment in the activity of the company. Bilbao Zeebrugge Antwerp Helsinki Kotka St. Petersburg GNE WS 7
