OVERVIEW

The Queensland Futures Summit f 2018 discussed issues frm fur dminant areas f imprtance fr Queensland: Advancing Queensland s Educatin & Research; Discvering Life Sciences; Enhancing ur Turism Assets; and Queensland s Jurney int Space. The salient theme frm the day was the need t wrk tgether t develp areas f innvatin and future fcussed learning thereby prmting a sustainable Queensland ecnmy. Althugh due t advancement in technlgy and innvatin many jbs are at the verge f disruptin, this advancement will als result in many jbs that are yet t be created. Fr this transitin, a shift in delivery f educatin, and fcus n early learning and life-lng educatin are required. Hence, a cntinuus and prsperus cllabratin between the gvernment, industry and educatin sectr is highly imprtant t ensure a successful transitin. The Summit panellists emphasised: the need fr greater cllabratin and building partnerships; reshaping and building future fcussed educatin; investing in manufacturing facilities t create mre STEM jbs; integratin f research in health care services; revlutinizing waste sectr t create knwledge-intensive jbs in reginal Queensland; and prmting nantechnlgy as a significant cmpetitive advantage fr Queensland s sustainable ecnmic grwth. Queensland hlds a number f pprtunities in this industry, nt nly the capabilities f earth bservatin and autmated technlgies, but the panellists als listed sme significant future pprtunities in this area: launch services that will create future jbs and fster ecnmic grwth; likelihd f space turism, the next generatin f transprtatin system; as well as satellites as majr enabler f internet f things that will revlutinize many industries.
