Sun., Sept. 15 HARTFORD / EN ROUTE Today we depart the Hartford area and drive to Chicago s O'Hare International Airport where we board our trans-atlantic flight traveling en route to Prague, The Czech Republic. (I) Mon., Sept. 16 PRAGUE Today we will arrive in Prague, here we meet our Tour Escort who will remain with us throughout our holiday. We board our motor coach for the short drive into the city. Prague, built on seven hills and spanning the Vltava River, the Czech Republic s Golden City of the Hundred Spires is one of the world s most impressive capital cities. Dinner is included this evening at our hotel. (I,D) Tour Itinerary Tues., Sept. 17 PRAGUE This morning our sightseeing tour of Prague will include a visit to Hradcany Castle as well as magnificent St. Vitus Cathedral. A few yards away is the Golden Lane, a row of tiny, colorful 16 th century houses, where the famous Czech writer Franz Kafka once lived. We continue down to the Mala Strana, and walk across the magnificent Charles Bridge that was built in 1357 and is lined with 30 religious statues. Our tour will come to an end in the Old Town Square where we ll view the superbly preserved medieval astronomical clock and its moving figures of the apostles, as well as the magnificent houses that surround the Square. The afternoon is free to explore Prague, perhaps to shop for Bohemian crystal, pottery and embroidered goods. Tonight we ll enjoy an unforgettable experience of a Czech Folklore show with dinner. A wonderful ensemble of dancers and musicians dressed in traditional clothing will entertain us, and you re more than welcome to join in and take an active part in learning the songs and dances. (B,D) Wed., Sept. 18 PRAGUE / KRAKOW We leave Prague this morning and travel east through the historic region of Bohemia, past the city of Brno. Enjoy the beautiful countryside as we cross the Polish Border and continue to Krakow, one of the oldest and most beautiful cities in Central Europe. Krakow has a unique charm created by centuries of history and cultural wealth. This evening dinner is included at our hotel. (B,D) Thurs., Sept. 19 KRAKOW Krakow, Poland s capital from 1038 to 1569 and residence of kings, will come alive on our tour of the city. We will see the Old Town, The Jagiellonian University, Cloth Hall, Wit Stwosz s acclaimed altar masterpiece at St. Mary s Basilica, Wawel Castle and Chapel, home to St. Stanislaus s tomb. This afternoon we visit the Wieliczka Salt Mines, where we take the Pilgrims route through the caves to view magnificent chapels and religious sculptures carved in salt, including the sculptures in the chapel dedicated to Saint Anthony and the wooden Golgotha of the Wieliczka miners. Our tour is crowned with a visit to the wonderful Chapel of St. Kinga where you will find splendid altars, a carved pulpit, a copy of Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper and a salt statue of St. John Paul II. (B) Fri., Sept. 20 KRAKOW (Zakopane ) Today our sightseeing takes us into the Tara Mountains of Southern Poland and the beautiful town of Zakopane. We begin with a funicular railway for a scenic ride to the top of Mt Gubalówka, where we soak up the beautiful views of the Tatra Mountains and take a brief walk around the peak. Next we visit Zakopane, Poland s popular destination for winter sports. Our guide will take us through the town pointing out the old cottages of the mountaineers, enclosed by ash trees and blackened by the sun. Built by the Polish artist Witkacy, learn the history behind the wooden houses and churches. Continue with a stroll along Krupówki, the bustling mall lined with restaurants, cafes and local shops. Time at leisure for lunch and a little shopping. We make a visit to the Tatra Museum in Zakopane before journeying back to Krakow. (B)

Sat., Sept. 21 KRAKOW (Auschwitz & Wadowice) A short drive through the Polish countryside brings us to the Polish town of Oswiecim, also known as Auschwitz, site of the infamous Nazi concentration camp where millions of Poles, Jews, Christians, and others lost their lives. During our tour we will see several gut wrenching sites. We will also see Auschwitz Berknau, the Jewish section, where the basic structures of the camp have survived, and the experience is amplified by a number of exhibitions about the major victims of the atrocities. In recognition of its historical significance as a memorial to all who suffered and died here, the site has been included on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list. This afternoon we drive to the town of Wadowice the birthplace of Saint John Paul. Here we will visit the family home of St. John Paul at Koscielna street where he was born and raised. The home has been turned into an amazing museum capturing the life and times of St. John Paul II. We will return to Krakow for an included dinner. (B,D) Sun., Sept. 22 KRAKOW/WARSAW Today we depart Krakow and drive into the Polish countryside to Czestochowa, to visit the Monastery of Jasna Gora, the greatest place of pilgrimage and the most famous shrine of the Virgin in Poland. The image of the Black Madonna of Czestochowa, to which miraculous powers are attributed, is Jasna Gora s most precious treasure. The Monastery also houses a magnificent Refectory, Knight s Hall, Basilica of the Holy Cross and the Nativity of Mary. This afternoon we continue by motor coach to the Polish Capital city of Warsaw. Dinner is included at our hotel. (B,D Mon., Sept. 23 WARSAW The most interesting historical features of Warsaw are located in the Old and New Towns, and along the Royal Route. Our day will begin in the New Town along Ulica Freta where we ll see the house at No. 15 where Marie Curie was born, followed by the Monument to the 1944 Warsaw Uprising before exploring the Old Town. Here we ll see the Barbican and medieval defense walls, and the Old Town Square surrounded on all sides by town houses rebuilt after wartime destruction. Among the most beautiful features of Warsaw are St. John Cathedral, and the Royal Castle the symbol of Polish independence. The afternoon is at leisure to enjoy Warsaw. This evening we enjoy a farewell dinner at a local restaurant in Warsaw. (B,D) Tues., Sept. 24 WARSAW/HARTFORD This morning we begin with a visit to the Church of St. Stanisław Kostka, and the museum dedicated to the Blessed Father Jerzy Popiełuszko, whose faith, conviction and courage mobilized the people of Poland to stand against Communist rule during the 1980s. Following our visit a short drive brings us to Warsaw Airport in preparation for the return journey home. No better time to reflect on memories of our time spent on tour and new friendships made along the way! On arrival we board our motor coach to return to the Hartford area.
