(817) 455-0922 AMA Gold Leader Club The Greater Southwest Aero Modelers, Inc. is a nonprofit organization. Membership is nondiscriminatory and open to anyone who agrees to abide by Club By-Laws. A condition of membership for insurance purposes is current affiliation with the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA). Our flying field is located at 6903 Randol Mill Road, 1/4 mile east of exit 26 off of Loop 820 at N 32 46.895 W 97 12.361. Visitors are welcome whenever the gate is unlocked. Free flight training instruction is available to members from 6:00 PM to dusk on Monday and Wednesday while Daylight Savings Time is in effect. Regular Club meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 PM at the McDonalds Restaurant, 769 Airport Freeway, Hurst TX 76053. The McDonalds is on the south access road just east of Precinct Line Road. Next Meeting: August 8, 2017 7:30pm McDonalds 769 Airport Fwy Hurst, TX 76053 President s Notes The rains this year have helped to keep our field in great, green condition. It also saves us money on summer water bills. After mowing the runway, it looks like a golf course. I sure hope you have had a chance to enjoy flying even in the warmer weather. Unfortunately, a major remodeling at the house has thrown me under the bus keeping me from getting out as much as I would like. Our club has 2 tables at the Denton swap meet August 5. If you have items to sell, bring them to Denton or drop them at the field early Friday morning August 4 with your name and price attached. The club will skim 10%. We could use some help with this if you are able. Unfortunately, the Thunderbirds float fly is also on August 5. As you know AMA s National Model Aviation Day is August 12 but GSW is celebrating this event at our Big Bird event; Tim Lovett will coordinate that on September 9. The club has the AMA insurance certificate for our GSW Float Fly Site and boat trailer license so we are ready for the first official GSW float fly event in many years. That will be Sunday, September 24. Get your float plane ready or come watch; maybe you can be small boat retrieval captain (SBRC) for the day. More kudos to Trini Lopez for the lumber for new walkway bridges. And thanks to all who helped build the new north bridge, drag trees from the hill, raise sprinkler heads, and clean the work tables on the July work day. See you at the field. Darrell Abby, President FAA 5 dollar registration refund by Lawrence Harville July 5, 2017 Drone hobbyists no longer have to register with the FAA. Those who did can delete their registration and receive a refund for the $5 registration fee two major community concerns. According to the FAA website, If you are an owner operating exclusively in compliance with section 336 and you wish to delete your registration and receive a refund of your registration fee, you may do so by accessing a registration deletion and selfcertification form (PDF) and mailing it to the FAA at the address designated on the form. That s right: If you re flying a drone recreationally and you registered with the FAA, you can get your 5 bucks back. And if you don t want your personal information publicly accessible through the FAA s registration database, you no longer have to volunteer it. Though keep in mind that commercial drone pilots still need to register with the FAA. http://www.modelairplanenews.com/ wp-content/uploads/2017/07/ FAA_Registration_Deletion_and_Refu nd_form_instructions.pdf From the AMA District VIII Web Site

Old Business Bill Bradford has made the last call for club shirts and caps. See the chat forum on the website for details. Model Of The Month Bob Mcduff presented his Top-Flite P- 47. He made it from a kit and it's powered by a DLE-20. It has fixed gear and is without a pilot. The meeting was adjourned at 8:10PM. Respectfully submitted Frank Rowell, Secretary Field Report Vice-President Lewie Moore reported that the field is in the best condition ever. With recent rain fall and with the new mower the runway is in great shape. A work day is scheduled for Saturday July 15. The cut trees need to be cut into smaller pieces and stacked for removal. A removal company will haul away trees for a fee of $300. Dave Cooke reported that progress is being made at the quad track. Mowing has improved the grass along with a lot of work leveling the ground. The opeating stand will be moved to the south side of the track. You are asked to park in the designated lot not in the quad track. A canvas shade shed will be set up and if the effort is successful a permanent shelter may be build next Our Distriict 8 VP rescuing a Lysander from destruction, or did he??? To be continued.
