Presidents Report Lorna 5338 2737 As another great year in the life of LAC Ballarat draws to a close I find it is always noteworthy to look back on the success of the year. The Ramblers and Strollers have enjoyed a number of local walks and a great variety of trips to Melbourne. Starting with a coffee at "The Age Building" before we launch into our walks. There have been some interesting walks one ending with a number of members knee deep in water after one of Melbourne's unexpected downpours. Unfortunately I don't think any photos were taken. There has also been a visit from a police car. There was no bad behaviour a policeman just happened to recognise his mother and stopped by for a chat. A photo shoot would have been great for our newsletter. The Escapees have also proved popular for day trips. They have added to our variety of outings to be enjoyed. Thank you to all our convenors for their tireless efforts in organising other areas of our calendar. I wish all members a very happy Christmas. I hope 2017 is a healthy and happy year for all. We would love to see a few more members come along to join in the great social nights. 6:30 Start PLEASE PHONE IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO ATTEND Escapees On Friday, November 18 th, 14 Escapees travelled to Melbourne for our zoo excursion. Despite a faulty train delaying our departure by 40 minutes, we experienced a delightful day. The animals were entertaining, providing amusement for all. It was obvious that they were well cared for. The general environment was pleasant which added to our enjoyment. As usual the company was A1 but next time perhaps a picnic lunch!! Monica.

Escapees Alison 5342 9889 We plan to start 2017 with one planned activity each three months, but still the option of an extra being thrown in every now and then. On Friday 17 February it is hoped to run a tour to the Channel 7 studios which are at Docklands in Melbourne. The tour commences at 10.30 am, and goes for approximately 45 minutes. The tour is free, for a maximum of 25 people. It is expected that we will travel on the 8.04 train from Wendouree. If you would like to go, please contact Margaret and Brian Gavan, after 22 January on bmgavan3@bigpond.com or 0408 334 926. As the date cannot be finalised until 1 February, and you would like to take part, please contact Brian and Margaret before then. If the date needs to be altered, Brian can then get back to you with a new date. There will be the long awaited tour of the Theatres and Exhibition spaces at the Arts Centre Melbourne on 2 June. The tour commences at 11 am, with the cost $20, including morning tea, and a maximum of 20. If you are interested please contact Margaret Noonan between 1 and 31 March. Payment needs to be made when you give Margaret your name. Further details will be provided once names and money is in. The next meeting of the Escapees group (all welcome, especially if you have an idea or two), on Friday 3 March at the Olive Grove at 2.30 pm. Possibly in their back room again. After a cuppa at the Age Building we caught a tram to the top of Collins St, the weather was in our favour so we walked through the Treasury and Fitzroy Gardens to the Ploughman Inn where we were picked up by bus and taken to the Johnson Collection. We were treated to a cuppa and biscuit then divided into 3 smaller groups and taken through with volunteer guides explaining what each room represented ending in the shop. While on some of our walking trips in Melbourne a couple of photos were taken. Members have requested they be included in this newsletter. The Ramblers Melbourne trip in November to St Kilda turned out to be a good day. We stopped for lunch in Acland Street. Some members went into the Abbey Road cafe, where Carol took this photo of me holding a bottle of dirty granny cider. It got a laugh from the other ladies, so here it is. The Strollers went to Albert Park in Melbourne on December 1 st and took this photo of them at lunch. POSTAGE HAS RISEN TO $1.00 IF WE ARE NOT ALREADY DOING SO CAN WE PLEASE EMAIL YOUR NEWSLETTER. Closing Date for the next Newsletter is 7 th March 2017
