Tuesday 13 November 2018 Bulletin 68 THIS : THIS WEEK : RAWCS Informal Night Duty Roster 131 Nov July 2018 Rotary Club of Albany Creek Inc. Bunnings Sausage Sizzle CHAIR Lorelle Holcroft John RECEPTION McKinnon Ken Armstrong RECEPTION OPENING Stewart Rice Chris Kebblewhite SAUSAGE SIZZLE REPORT 09.11.18 We had a very pleasant day with much cooler temperatures than earlier in the week. The gusty winds early and late in the day proved a bit of a problem with everything having to be anchored down. We were well ahead of the scheduled 9.00am start, making our first sales at 8.35am. Even so, we missed at least five sales to potential customers used to our previous earlier starts. Phil, Ros, John and Isobel are very familiar with setting up and that process went without a hitch and we were ready well ahead of time. Campbell and Meetings held at Albany Creek Tavern Every Tuesday 730 Albany Creek Road, Albany Creek 6pm for 6.30pm start Brian joined us and for the first session which allowed Phil and Ros to leave early as planned. We were surprised how busy it became from 10.30am onwards, so much so that we decided that we would need more stock. As soon as the first workers from the second session arrived, I went to Warner to purchase additional stock - 3 x packs of sausages, 5 x loaves of bread and 2kg of frozen onions. Bruce, Cherryl, Maria, Members please call Stewart Rice on 0418 734 244 or email stewartrice@iinet.net.au if you are unable to attend or if you are running late. If you wish to have a meal and the meeting has started, please advise the kitchen staff that you are extra. Leonie and James were kept very busy at first but, after 1.00pm, sales d r o p p e d a w a y markedly. When I returned for the final session, it was obvious that I had no need to have purchased extra stock. We had three packs of sausages and five loaves of bread over at the end. We did use some of the extra onions. There are these sausages and 1kg of frozen onions in my freezer ready for the next Sausage Sizzle or Christmas in the Creek. John Pos was unable to make the third session due to a late medical problem and Isobel (Continued Page 2) Rotary International President 2018-2019 Barry Rassin Governor D9600 2018-2019 Wendy Protheroe ROTARY MINUTE Christine West Upcoming Guest Speakers Maria Joubert Money In, Money Out Leonie Dawes My Life AGM TBA OPENING Maria Joubert ROTARY MINUTE Chris Kebblewhite 20 Nov 27 Nov 4 Dec 11 Dec Page 1 www.rotaryalbanycreek.org.au www.facebook.com/rotaryalbanycreek

Bulletin 68 Bunnings Sausage Sizzle (cont. from Page 1) returned with me to help with the clean-up as Sam had indicated earlier that he was unavailable. Special thanks go to Isobel, Ros and Carmen for their sterling effort especially in setting up and cleaning up. Special thanks to go to Trevor Hudson who, in addition to his work in session three, helped transport the drinks back to the shed. To our members - Phil, Brian, Campbell, Maria, Leonie, Bruce, Cherryl and James - I acknowledge your valued help and efficient work. The 4.00pm finish and then clean-up made it a long day. As I predicted, the day was not nearly as profitable as ones c o nducted o n a weekend. Takings were a bit disappointing - $669.70 and after expenses of $228.99 produced a net profit of $440.71; a long day and a lot of work for not a lot of money. As mentioned above, we do have some stock over and there are two unopened cartons of soft drinks as well as the normal left-overs to be used at the next event. Sincere thanks to all our volunteers for your w o r k a n d g r e a t company. John McK (Sausage Sizzle Coordinator) Christmas in the Creek Members Help Requested As reported in the Bulletin last week, this year we will have a stall selling C h r i s t m a s goodies; White Christmas, Rum Balls, Rocky Road etc. Members present at last week s meeting had a lucky dip to identify ingredients which they could donate to the cookers. It is essential that these donations are brought to the meeting this week to allow time for the cookers to make the goodies. P l e a s e p h o n e Leonie Dawes if you would like to help with a donation. Page 2 www.rotaryalbanycreek.org.au www.facebook.com/rotaryalbanycreek

Albany Creek Scout Group Bulletin 68 Members of Rotary Club of Albany Creek, Thank you for your generous support of our L o c a l S c o u t i n g Group. With your financial aid we have been able to achieve one of our main priorities this year - an external wash up station has been installed at the rear of our den. A stainless steel twin bowl with both hot and cold wat er wit h antitheft devices have now been nstalled. The purpose of this project was to assist with the many camps that we hold throughout the year with all sections of o u r g r o u p participating. Prior to this installation we were bucketing hot water from the inside of our den outside to wash c h i l d r e n ' s p l a t e s and cutlery. As this is a l o n g a n d potentially risky way of getting hot water outside the committee decided this was to be one of the priority projects this year. Upon investigation into local building laws we ascertained that we also needed to ensure we provided adequate cover over the sink so that rainwater did not go down the sewer system. An insulated awning has now been installed over top of the sink and this also p r o v i d e s f u r t h e r shading on the windows that lead into our internal kitchen. As the camp cook I thank you sincerely as the kitchen has dropped its t e m p e r a t u r e considerably now with the shade over those windows. So a huge win for both inside and outside. The next step in our project will be to lay paving underneath the sink to stop mud being created by many scouts lining up to use the area. We have ensured the awning is long enough that we can w h e e l o u t t h e wonderful BBQ trolley that Rotary members Trevor and Mary Hudson so generously donated to our group at the beginning of the year. This area is now a fancy outdoor kitchen and we are pretty pleased with how it has all come together. A special thanks to Lorelle for your time in assisting us with all the required paperwork to lodge this application and another special thanks to Bruce for starting the ball rolling and welcoming our Scouting Group into the Rotary Family. We look forward to welcoming all of the Rotary Members down in the new year to join us in a BBQ dinner so you all get first hand experience of camp life and washing dishes in our new fancy sink. The best part of this sink is we can empty it out and refill. No longer do we have to fight off the floating rice bubbles that the kid before us left in the water. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping our Scout Group c o mm ittee achieve this wonderful resource for the safety and hygiene of our children.
