Dear Members, AIE Conference 11-14 October 2018 On behalf of the AIE Board of Directors, I would like to extend a warm invitation to AIE & AFDA Members, staff and industry colleagues to attend the 2018 Australian Institute of Embalming Conference which will be held at The Brisbane Riverview Hotel, Hamilton, Queensland. As this Conference will be held in Brisbane we thought it was appropriate that the Conference theme is Bris Vegas. During the two days of the Conference, you will hear best practices of highly experienced speakers, recommendations for tackling your daily challenges and be proactively involved in all the education sessions. Delegates can meet old friends and colleagues and create new relationships. For everyone, it is an opportunity to visit Brisbane, and to spend some time enjoying new sights and experiences. The social program includes an opening night dinner during which the winner of this year s AIE Scholarship will be announced, a very special mystery dinner and of course on the last night there will be the traditional Chairman s Ball. If you have never been to an AIE Conference or have not attended in a while, I encourage you to make plans to join us this year. For those of you who regularly attend the Conference, thanks for your continued support and we look forward to seeing you again. Don t delay register today! Pauline Tobin Chairman Australian Institute of Embalming Pack a hat and some sunscreen! Rowan Steer Rowan Steer of Integrity Funerals, Queensland has been a funeral director for 30 years and has repatriated to most countries worldwide as well as performing hundreds of exhumations. When a person dies the first priority is to transfer them to a place of safety and care until the appropriate relatives can be advised and their specific instructions received. This presentation will cover the process and procedures to repatriate a deceased person overseas and also what happens if someone dies overseas and needs to be returned to Australia.. Rowan understands that these tasks may be daunting as they are not preformed all that often and hopes this discussion style session will teach and assist AIE members in their work places when faced with the need to repatriate or exhume.
