Board of Tourism Controllers Duties and Responsibilities To carry out the procedures for licensing of tourism investments and establishments To carry out the procedures for regulation and endorsement of the prices to be offered by tourism enterprises in accordance with the policies and principles established by the Ministry by taking into account the requirements of the world tourism market To inspect the operations of tourism establishments, and professional tourism organizations and to carry out the procedures for rewarding or penalizing of such businesses, organizations and persons according to the audit results To provide useful and guiding information to the sector, collaborates with it at national and international level

Licensing and Inspection Examining the applications for license Controlling the maintenance of the basic qualities required for the license Implementing classification forms Handling of complaints

Classification: Process of evaluation of the standards such as minimum qualifications, capacity, physical properties, standard of the materials used, operation and service quality and qualifications and education level of the staff of facilities with tourism license and of determination of the type and class of tourism facilities by the classification commissions. Classification Commission: Formed by two controllers from the Ministry and a representative of the private sector

Legal Status for Muslim friendly tourism The certification and qualification (e.g. star system) of tourism enterprises are ruled by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism The current regulation does not refer to halal tourism or halal touristic facilities. Private sector driven initiates Licenced hotels can promote theirselves as halal hotels. Turkish Standard Institution (TSE) started issuing halal and published Halal Service Criteria for Hotels. There is no official statitistical record for halal tourism. A working group is formed to study certifications on muslim friendly accommodation establishments 20
