HELLENIC REPUBLIC HELLENIC STATISTICAL AUTHORITY Piraeus, 5 October 2018 PRESS RELEASE SURVEY ON TERTIARY EDUCATION (TECHNOLOGICAL INSTITUTIONS) END OF ACADEMIC YEARS & / The Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) announces statistical data on Tertiary Education ( ) for the end of academic years and /. On the basis of available survey data: The number of enrolled undergraduate students in all in the academic year / increased by 1.9 in comparison with (from 217,611 to 221,730). A significant increase is observed for the Merchant Marine Academies (28.9) and for ASPETE 1 (26.5) in / compared with (Table 1). Teaching staff in all in the academic year / decreased by 1.9 in comparison with, with the largest decreases being observed in the Academies (16.9), TEI of Thessaloniki (13.2) and TEI of Ionian Islands (12.3). However, the of Western Macedonia and Ipeiros recorded an increase of 19.1 and 5.8, respectively due to the launch of new postgraduate programmes (Master s degree) (Table 2). The number of graduates from undergraduate programs in the academic year / decreased by 6.7 in comparison with. However, there was an increase of graduates from vocational institutions (9.6) and ecclesiastical institutions (6.7)(Table 3). Enrolled postgraduate students in the academic year / increased substantially (80.5) in comparison with because new postgraduate programmes were launched (Table 4). Postgraduate students that graduated in the academic year / decreased by 11.0 in comparison with. The highest rates are observed in ASPETE (57.1) and the Institution of Crete (36.9) (Table 5). EXPLANATORY NOTES Survey on Tertiary Education (University Sector) Tertiary Education consists of two domains: i) University Sector including Universities, Polytechnic Schools, the Athens School of Fine Arts and ii) the Sector including the Institutes (TEI), the School of Pedagogical and Education (ASPETE), the Academies of Merchant Shipping, Academies, Schools of Service and Artistic Schools). The current survey refers to the Sector and is conducted annually. The aim is to collect data on enrolled undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate students, undergraduate and postgraduate students that graduated, as well as the number of the teaching staff. Legal Frame Regulation 452/2008 and 912/2013 of the European Parliament and the Council and Commission Implementing Regulation 912/2013. Unit of Reference Coverage Greece. Results Annually. Department of each University. Reference Period End of school years and /. Methodology The Tertiary Education survey is an annual and census and it is conducted on all tertiary educational institutions of Greece, by the end of the academic year.
