Camp site Next stop is Saumur, in the beautiful Loire Valley. The Loire is famous for its wine; our visit coincides with the annual Wine Festival. Our campsite is on an island in the Loire, just a short walk to the town centre. The Tourist Train also stops outside the camp gates. The town is overlooked by the picturesque Chateau of Saumur.
Nearby are many other places to visit including Fontevraud Abbey where two Kings and a Queen of England are buried. The steep banks of the Loire are filled with Troglodyte caves which provide ideal facilities for growing mushrooms and the many caves of the local wine producers. The town also houses the tank museum Musee de Blindes and just outside is the world famous The Cadre Noir riding school with displays of equestrian skill and daring every week. The Saumur Wine Festival is the 1 st week in September. Short boat trips on the Loire are also available. Monday 9 th September Transfer to our final campsite in Bayeux.
