Euronetsuke Hungo Event: Useful Info Synopsis This mini break away is centered on a set of informal events for Euronetsuke members, with a focus on a handling session at the Ferenc Hopp Museum of East Asia Arts, Budapest, Hungary. The museum was founded in 1919 by the company owner, world traveler, collector and patron of art, Ferenc Hopp, (b. 1833, d. 1919), who bequeathed his Oriental collection of approximately 4.000 items and his villa to the state, for the purposes of establishing a museum and research centre of Asiatic arts. As part of the items bequeathed, a substantial collection of netsuke have been donated, and the museum published the collection in a hard back catalogue 10 years ago. The museum is willing to provide members with a room on Saturday 1 st September, to handle a selection of 50 items from this collection. Budapest is a wonderful location for the traveler, not only because it s quite possibly the most beautiful and culturally diverse city in Europe, but like the UK, remains independent of the Euro currency. This means the prices for hotels, food, drink and other items remains extremely good value. Budapest is also a compact city, supplied with a great tram network and 4 tube lines (Red, Blue, Yellow and Green lines) allowing visitors to easily skip around all the key areas of the city. More info can be found here - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/budapest_metro 2 P a g e

Group Size Due to museum restrictions, we need to cap this event at 30 visitors. The museum handling sessions will be divided up into two groups of 15. One morning session, one afternoon session. Currency Hungary is part of the EU, but like the UK, decided to retain its own currency. The currency is HUF. However you will find EURO s are accepted at most places. Event Dates The event will take place from Thursday 30 th August until Monday 3 rd September, 2018. Budapest is a wonderful city, a personal European favorite of mine. Hungary as a whole has many castles, historical cities and beautiful scenery. Given this opportunity to visit, we recommend you consider extending your stay to take in all the sites Hungary has to offer. Please find the details of each day s itinerary published in detail within this document. Accommodation and Travel Flights London (Gatwick) to Budapest, for the Thursday returning the Monday, currently listed at 89 return with EasyJet. A bus from the airport to outside the hotel Korona cost around 2 euros. A cab to most places around central Budapest costs around 10 Euros. Expect the journey to take about 20 minutes max. Accommodation The following accommodation recommendations are available via booking.com. On a Budget Apartment stay The Riverbank Apartment (4 nights 200). This apartment could not be more centrally located. Assuming two share this works out at 25 per person per night. 3 P a g e

Mid Range - 4 star hotel Mercure Budapest Korona (4 nights 420pp including breakfast). This is excellent location, and opposite the National Museum, visible through the window of the room example in the photo below. We can recommend this hotel from previous personal experience. Treat yourself - 5 Star Hotel Sofitel Budapest Chain Bridge (4 nights 753pp including breakfast). Another hotel in an excellent location. We can recommend this hotel from previous experience. The breakfasts are of particular note! 4 P a g e

Day 1 Schedule 30 th August 2018 (Thursday) Morning / Afternoon: Arrival of Members 9am 5pm Members arrivals Members will need to make bookings and travel arrangements individually. At time of this event publication, we recommend the hotels listed in the accommodation section of this document. Evening Event: Informal Welcome Meal 7.30pm Bed Traditional Hungarian Food Restaurant Fatal Fatal is located in historical downtown Budapest. It is not only known for its stylish stained glass windows but also for setting the standard in home-style cooking. Renown for such memorable dishes as the bread buns filled with Vetrece (Sour Ragout), the bean soup with cabbage and pork, the pasta (resembling Ricciolini) with cabbage and crisp duck filet as well as the giant cottage cheese dumplings to name a few. The atmosphere of the large oak benches and tables along with the refreshing draft beer recall the best Hungarian restaurant traditions. The large portions are served in roman clay dishes or iron skillets, their motto: just like my mother used to do!. A view towards the cellar seating area. 5 P a g e

An example of part of the cellar restaurant. Expect to pay 15 per head for a meal + beverages. Please let us know if you plan to attend this welcome meal when registering for the weekend, as we need to secure the space for 30 individuals in advance. 6 P a g e

Of his assemblage of over 50,000 Southeast Asian artefacts, over 1,000 are on display at the museum.[1] Within the museum it is the compilation of Southeast Asian precious metal (gold and silver) objects that are most striking from the historical and art-historical perspective, and from a collector s and a museological perspective the most extraordinary, including as it does the greatest number of curiosities, which are also valuable in monetary terms.
