The main reason for the year-over-year passenger decline in Reno is the decreased seat capacity on Delta Air Lines and Southwest Airlines routes. In August 2014, Delta Air Lines reported a decrease of (16.8%) versus the same period last year. The airline downgauged aircraft from 737s and A320s to RJs and A319s on the Salt Lake City route. The year-over-year seat capacity of Delta Air Lines was down (16.1%) for the same period. Southwest Airlines carried 19,681 fewer passengers in August 2014 compared to the same period last year, representing a decrease of (12.3%). The loss of Portland and Seattle frequency decreased the seat capacity by 20,694. Overall, Southwest s flights were down (20.8%) in August 2014 versus August 2013. Calendar year-to-date passenger traffic at RNO is down (5.2%) at 2,265,346. With respect to air cargo, RNO handled 10,853,726 pounds of cargo in August 2014, virtually flat (0.1%) compared to August 2013. Overall, cargo performance continues to improve year-over-year by all carriers, showing strong cargo demand for RNO with an increase of 6.1% for the first eight months of 2014 compared to the same period of 2013. In August 2014, RNO was served by seven major airlines providing 61 peak daily departures to 15 non-stop destinations. For August, our partner airlines reported a (7.0%) decrease in scheduled passenger seats compared to August 2013.

Year-over-year passenger traffic on Alaska Airlines increased by 61.4% due to increased Portland, OR and Seattle, WA service and increased midweek service to San Jose, CA. Southwest eliminated Reno/Portland flights from its network on June 7, 2014. Ameriflight had the most improvement with 14.6% more cargo weight year-over-year. FedEx increased by 0.3% while UPS decreased by (3.5%) over the same period. Amerijet International carried 85,519 pounds of cargo in August 2014.

United Airline posted 93.2%, an increase of 1.5 points. Allegiant Air reported 85.4%, an increase of 11.7 points. Southwest s load factor was up 8.7 points at 82.2% and U.S. Airways increased 3.2 point at 80.4% for the same period. 10% 0% Alaska Airlines load factor was down (0.8 pts) to 82.7% while United Airlines was down (1.5 pts) to 87.9% in August 2014 versus the same period last year.

The next highest market shares were: American Airlines with 14.6%, United Airlines with 13.9%, Alaska Airlines with 10.9%, US Airways with 9.2%, Delta Air Lines at 6.3% and Allegiant Air rounded out the carriers with 1.0% of the total passengers at RNO. In addition, Alaska Airlines started service to Portland, OR with two flights per day starting on June 8, 2014 and increased flights to Seattle, WA from four to five. Delta Air Lines Began Saturday only service to Minneapolis, MN effective June 7, 2014. Southwest Airlines Eliminated non-stop service to Portland, OR and Seattle, WA effective June 7, 2014. United Airlines Non-stop seasonal flight to Houston was temporarily discontinued on August 18th.
