JULY HIGHLIGHTS LAKE ERIE EXTRAVAGANZA Summer Picnic Happy Hours Activities Committee Meeting I write this as I m enjoying a three day weekend with family. Summer came on in one week this year but I still see skiers posting their pictures on Facebook out West. I miss the snow but have enjoyed some bike riding and grilling the past couple of weeks. I hope you all have been able to enjoy some outdoor activities as well. Thanks goes to those members that returned the Trip Survey to help determine what type of ski trip you are looking to participate in in the future. Beth, with help from the board, can come up with another epic trip for the upcoming season. This is going to be a busy summer with all the activities the club has planned. Even though I didn t get a chance to go, some lucky members got to Zipline with Charlie. I am looking forward to hear how it went. The OVSC Summit starting on June 3rd is a great way for you to see what other clubs are doing. You get to interact with other likeminded individual, share stories, and see what the resorts have instore for the upcoming season. Next is the Summer Picnic at Stone Crest Winery on June 25 th. I hope to see you all there to enjoy some summer spirits with other club members. Something new this year is the Wine and Vine tour. It has a waiting list and will be a great trip visiting several wineries later on this summer. There are several other upcoming activities for you to explore and get involved in but you better not wait or you might be put on a waiting list. You know what they say the early bird gets the worm. Although the Mohican camping trip had to be canceled, we want to thank Joe Swick for all his lard work and effort he put into putting the trip together. Without members like him, we would never get to go anywhere. Please thank him and every trip leader for volunteering for this necessary job the next time you see one of them! Remember this club is only as strong as its members. I hope to see you at the June meeting. Page 3 THE INS IDE EDGE THE INS IDE Page EDGE 3 2nd Annual Lake Erie Extravaganza Sept. 9-11, 2016 only $100 per person for the weekend We are returning to the Saunders Cottages during the second weekend of September. This year s trip will be just as great as last year s, but we will be trying out some new, fun activities and competitions. Friday night will include the traditional wine and cheese party, but this time it will be held on the Island Tour Train, which is that cool trolley roaming around the island. How will we do it?!? You ll have to come to find out!!!! Saturday will feature a fun bike ride in the morning for those who want to get up and do something in the great outdoors. For those with a hangover, feel free to sleep in! That afternoon will see the Amazing Putt-Putt Tournament, where each individual will work to ensure he or she has the HIGHEST score (because golf is all about the highest score winning, right?!?!) to win one of the cool prizes being handed out at Heinemann s Winery afterward. More information on the theme and fun to had on this trip will be forthcoming in later newsletters. Please, let us know that you want to attend. You can reach us at bswick@cotc.edu or leave a message at 614-316-8483. For anyone who wants to come up on Thursday, thus avoiding the long lines at the ferries since this is a big Boy Scout & competition weekend, there will be a good price & availability. We need a $50 deposit by the June 7th meeting, with the balance being paid off by the August 2nd meeting. There is room for 40-47 people, so we can t wait to see you there! Beth Swick & Tyler Indoe
Page 4 T H E I N S I D E E D G ET H E I N S I D E Page E DPage G E4 4 Next 3 Friday Happy Hours For June s Happy Hour we will be going to Papa Boo s on Buckeye Lake to see what band might be playing there on Friday, June 17 around 6pm. There will be no reservations, so just come on in, look for some friends, and grab a picnic table. As always, if someone wants to get there about 5:30, that would be great. July s Happy Hour will be on the 15th at 6pm. We are going to go try out the new Buckeye Lake Brewery in the town of Buckeye Lake. I ve never been here, but I have heard some really good things. If you like beer, the Brewery has quite a few localinspired offerings, as well as some from around the Columbus and Ohio areas. This is a new business to the area which is locally sourcing a product most of us can eagerly get behind beer! I know we usually go to wineries and such, so this one isf or all our long-suffering beer aficionados. On August 19th, we will go over to the Island House. I have heard lots of good things about this place, so I am eager to try it. This will continue our tour of local Buckeye Lake spots just to give back to the local economy which has been hurt by the dam issues. Again, we will meet around 6pm on that Friday. This business has been great in supporting us in the Silent Auction every year we have held it. From what I can tell, It really seems to be The time for giving birth!! From the Activities Chair Desk: We will be holding the Fall Activities Committee Meeting on Saturday, October 1st at Beth Swick s Party Room in Canal Winchester beginning at 6p. The Spring meeting was sparsely attended, and we want many voices to be heard at this very important meeting. Without our trips, we are just another group of people who get together once a month and talk. These meetings are important in generating ideas on where to go, what to see, what to do, and who is willing to run the trip. Everyone has there secret fantasy trip in mind, so why not come tell us? Because, from experience, I can tell you that there are members in this club who will want to go with you. And isn t every trip better with a few Newark Ski Club members along for the ride?!?!?
