Quick Information for the Borough of Shippensburg It is a violation within the Borough to... Set trash out more than 24 hours before scheduled collection Have upholstered furniture, appliances, etc on property exterior Use house or porch roofs for nondesigned purposes (such as sunbathing) Keep an abandoned vehicle on property exterior Permit grass or weed to exceed ten inches in height. Permit shrubs/trees to overhang the sidewalk or street at a height of less than 8 and 16 respectively. Outdoor Fires/Burning It is unlawful for a person within the Borough of Shippensburg to burn outdoors any construction material, domestic refuse, rubbish, trade waste, or yard waste. Outside incinerators of all kinds are unlawful and shall not be used for fire. Chimineas and factory built novelty stoves are permitted as long as used in accordance with manufacturer s instructions and not within 15 feet of any structure. Possession of Open Containers in Vehicles It shall be unlawful within the Borough of Shippensburg for any person to have in such person's possession or in a vehicle under such person's control any open container containing liquor or malt or brewed beverages upon any public street, public municipal parking lot, private parking lot open to public use or public parks. Land Use Permits A permit shall be required prior to the erection of structural alteration of any building, structure or portion thereof and prior to the use or change in use of a building or land and prior to the change or extension of a nonconforming use. Applications for permits shall be made, in writing, to the Zoning Officer on such forms as may be furnished by the Borough. Such application shall contain all information necessary for the Zoning Officer to ascertain whether the proposed erection, alteration, use or change in use complies with the provisions. Recycle We are now doing Single Stream Recycling. Combine all materials into the blue collection can. Blue Recycling containers must stay with the property. Replacement containers are available at the Borough Office. Taxes Borough of Shippensburg Tax Office Hours: Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Personal checks are accepted until Wednesday, December 21, 2017, thereafter cash, money order or certified check accepted until December 31, 2017 Questions, please call 717-532-2147 Electronic Recycling The Cumberland County Electronics Recycling Center is open. The facility is located at 1001 Claremont Road in Carlisle. The hours of operation are 2-6 PM on Tuesday and Wednesdays and the second and fourth Saturdays of the month from 9 AM 1 PM. The center is accepting televisions, computers and accessories, mobile devices, entertainment equipment, data center equipment and cable equipment. A fee of.50 per pound will be charged. STREET DEPARTMENT Snow/Ice Removal Snow and Ice must be removed within 12 hours after it ceases to fall or form. If not removed, the Borough or its contractor will clear it at the owner s expense, in addition to other fines and penalties. Shovel snow into roadway is unlawful; please find other means of depositing snow and ice. parallel along the curb line. Leaves must be raked away from mailboxes, poles, cars, and other obstructions. Twigs and branches must be kept out of the leaves as they clog the machine. If you use plastic bags to gather leaves, please empty the bags at the curb. Please do not place grass, debris, or other trash with your leaves. If your leaves are not being collected, it may be because one of the above items is not being followed. Winter Weather Emergency Remember Winter Weather Emergency has changed. Once an emergency is declared it shall apply to King, Orange, Burd, N. Prince, Fort Street and the Inner Loop of Stewart Place. All vehicles must be removed from the streets listed above so streets can be cleared. Leaf Collection/Schedule Loose leaves are picked up in the fall generally during the month of November only along the curb according to the Leaf collection schedule. You can find the schedule on line at www.borough.shippensburg.pa.us/borou gh-services/leaf-collection/ Leaves to be picked up should be raked in a row in the street, running 4 Due to the tendency of leaves clogging storm sewers, leaves are not to be placed at curbside prior to one week ahead of scheduled collection time. Leaves are not allowed in the street except during the pick up month. There will be no on-street parking from 4:00 pm the day before a scheduled collection day until 3:00 pm of the collection day. If you wish to remove leaves prior to or after your scheduled collection day, or at any other time of the year, you may take your leaves to the Borough Compost facility. If leaves are bagged, all bags must be emptied at the compost facility. Please do not discard bags at the site.

Fall Yard Waste Clean-Up WEEK OF OCTOBER 9 TH Pick-up follows the trash/recycling route. Garden and tree waste should be placed in containers loose, tied in 4 bundles or in biodegradable bags and placed separate from trash and recycling containers. UPCOMING EVENTS Halloween Parade Date Saturday, October 21, 2017 7 PM Street Sweeping enforcement occurs 365 days per year. Please move your vehicles. POLICE DEPARTMENT Please remember that when someone is doing door to door soliciting, a permit is required. The permit must be displayed on the person. If no permit is visible, ask for it. If no permit is produced, tell them to leave and call the Police Department at 717-532-7361. FIRE DEPARTMENT Needs your help Junior Members, Active Firefighters, Administrative Members, Fund Raising Volunteers and Fire Police are all positions that are a vital part of the operation and continued success of the fire departments.
