The Enos, Taylors, Walters, and Wilhours participated. It was a fun trip enjoyed by all. We arrived Sunday, October 14 at Two Rivers Campground, where we stayed until the following Sunday. We were camping (thanks to James and Sandra) about 2 miles or less from a large shopping mall, the Grand Ole Opry, and other excellent entertainment. A shuttle transported us between the campground and downtown Nashville. We traveled to locations and events together and separately, depending on the interests of each of us. As evident from the photos, we all enjoyed this trip and checked off many items from our bucket lists. I hope to see you in Eustis. Don t forget, we are participating in the flea market as a money-maker for our chapter. Please do your Fall cleaning and bring useful items that you haven t used for years to Eustis. We will have a chapter meeting on Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m. in the Pine Hall after serving the sausage biscuits. We will be installing officers for the 2019 year at this meeting; wear your chapter uniform. The Veterans Association is no longer accepting our books; however, we will continue collecting them to donate to senior centers, assisted living centers, and other charitable organizations. Please give your books for donation to James Walters. As you know, Wreaths Across America is an organization we have supported for years. It s mission is to, Remember, Honor and Teach with wreaths laid for the fallen. Remember Fallen Veterans. Honor Those Who Serve. Information regarding this organization can be obtained at wreathsaccrossamerica.org. Wreaths can be purchased for $15 each; you may donate multiple wreaths. Please give your checks, made out to Wreaths Across America, to James Walters no later than the last day of the Eustis Campout, November 17, 2018. Or, you may send your checks to James at 8532 Thims Avenue, Jacksonville, Florida 32221 or give them to him at Eustis. Your annual chapter dues of $20 should be paid to Laverne Toivonen, 85133 Terry Road, Yulee, Florida 32097 as soon as possible. Happy Camping.
Wagon Master s Log for October December, 2018 JAMES WALTERS Good Sam defines Caravan as three or more rigs traveling together to a Rally. Each state has its own patch for caravan, and additional caravans to that state earn a satellite patch to accompany the initial patch. Caravans to local camp outs do not qualify for a patch but they make travel more fun and safer in the fact that you are not traveling alone in case of trouble. The longer the distance traveled, the more the need to caravan for safety. November 14-18, 2018 (EB 13). Florida Fall Rally, Eustis, FL. Wild, Wild West is the theme. Additional details will be provided, when available. Caravan to Eustis will meet at 9:30 a.m. at the Winn Dixie at Black Creek, 3260 US 17 please let James know if you are planning to caravan. Nashville, The Music City, developed on a foundation built on music which continues to bind its people and the city. After disembarking on the shore of the Cumberland River in the early 1700s, settlers celebrated their success with fiddle tunes and dancing. Frontiersman and Congressman Davy Crockett, Nashville s first celebrity, was widely known for his colorful stories and fiddle playing. Throughout the 1800s to this day, Nashville grew to become a national center for music publishing. A quiet, peaceful RV park just two miles north of Opryland and Opry Mills Shopping Center. Shuttles are available to and from Nashville city center. Park Headquarters Here we are in the campground. Patiently waiting for the shuttle to downtown and adventure. We had some rain; note the raincoats.
The day cruise presented a musical TASTE OF TENNESSEE. It showcased songs and styles first made famous in Tennessee. The entertainment was superb but the cruise was cancelled due to mechanical problems.
Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center. The restaurant we visited was located in a beautiful atrium. The food was delicious. Atrium Waiting to be seated. Thinking BIG!! Deciding what to order..
LIVE FOOD TANK?? SUSHI? Decisions, decisions! What to eat? The seafood was fresh.
Ol Red is a restaurant & live music venue inspired by Blake Sheltoh s hit, Ol Red. A place to go if you are itchin to have fun. Unfortunately our food was not memorable. Although we invited Blake Shelton to join us for lunch, he did not show up. NOTE: The photos above are publicity photos.
Log cabin where Andrew Jackson first resided. It was two stories then but was later converted to one story. Burial site for Andrew Jackson and family. Beautiful landscaping of the Hermitage Estate.
Marathon Village is a repurposing of Marathon Motor Works where Marathon vehicles were produced. The Marathon Motor Works museum showcases five of the remaining eight Marathon vehicles. The Village now houses artists, performers, designers, business professionals, and investors and a variety of retail shops on the first floor. The American Pickers had a shop in the retail area. It was jammed with expensive, old stuff. There were many, many old, belt-driven machines, used to manufacture the Marathon vehicles.
The Parthenon in Centennial Park is a full-scale replica of the original Parthenon located in Athens, Greece. It was constructed in 1897 as part of the Tennessee Centennial Exposition. It now functions as an art museum. Inside is a 42 ft. statue of Athena Partheonos, protector and patron goddess of Athens. TRIP SUMMARY BY JAMES WALTERS After review, my trip photos were mostly of clothes worn by stars most of us don t know. The costumes were gaudy showmanship to proclaim stardom to the audience of country music and the Grand Old Opry. Given that the grand Old Opry was, and continues to be, a radio show, the regalia could only be seen by live audiences. The costumes were very expensive, heavy, had to be transported with the stars, and appear fresh and unwrinkled upon arrival. Buildings and statues remain as noteworthy for photographing and discussing. Nashville has a replica of the Parthenon complete with a statue of Athena. Country Music Hall of Fame is full of mementos and more clothing. The two impressive items besides all the gold records were the cars owned by Webb Pierce and the gold-plated Cadillac owned by Elvis. The Ryman auditorium is famous for being the original home of the Grand Ole Opry, until a new venue (Opryland, the amusement park) was developed; it folded after a few years. Now that I ve taken you on my tour of Nashville, all that you missed was the fun, excitement, and camaraderie we experienced attending the live music shows.
