Instructions Unshielded Fluid Hose Kit 308688C Kit Part No. 238995 Kit for converting the PRO 5500wb Spray Gun and the PRO Auto Xs wb Spray Gun to allow the use of a bare PTFE(unshielded) fluid hose. Order one kit and one hose for each gun being converted. See fluid hose part numbers on page 2. See the kit parts on page 6. Read warnings and instructions. See page 2 for List of Models. WARNING ELECTRIC SHOCK HAZARD The unshielded fluid hose can only be used on automatic gun systems. Safety regulations require the use of shielded fluid hoses on hand-held equipment to reduce the risk of electric shock.
List of Models Unshielded Fluid Hose for PRO 5500wb Part No. Length 238877 25 ft. (7.6 m) 238878 50 ft. (15.2 m) Unshielded Fluid Hose for PRO Auto Xs wb Part No. Length 245329 25 ft. (7.6 m) 245330 36 ft. (11 m) Hose Comparison Shielded Fluid Hose Part No. 237920/921/922 245327/328 Hose Construction The hose has a PTFEinner hose layer surrounded by a conductive shield layer. The outer hose jacket is a protective polyethylene. The conductive layer is grounded when assembled to the gun. Advantages 1. Easy to install. 2. Conductive hose layer provides a safe grounding path in case of hose failure. 3. Has an abrasion resistant cover. Unshielded Fluid Hose 238877/878 245329/330 The hose is bare PTFE. 1. Longer hose life; less electrical stress on the hose. 2. Lower system capacitance; system voltage will rise faster. 3. Easier hose connections. 2 308688
Installation Installation Requirements (Refer to Fig. 3) WARNING The installation requirements must be followed to reduce the risk of hazardous conditions, including fire; explosion; and electric shock. Wherever possible, keep a minimum of 6 in. (152 mm) of separation between the unshielded fluid hose and any grounded surface, including the floor. In areas where the minimum 6 in. (152 mm) separation from grounded surfaces is not possible, surround the fluid hose with extra insulation. Insert the hose through a large diameter, non-conductive, thick-wall tubing. 1. Discharge the system voltage by following the procedure in the Isolation System instruction manual. 2. Flush the gun with water and air. 3. Relieve the system pressure as instructed in the Isolation System instruction manual. PRO 5500wb Shown Route the fluid hose through a non-conductive conduit (PVC) in areas where the hose is accessible to personnel during normal usage. To protect the hose, extend the PVC conduit as close to the gun as possible. A Protect the fluid hose from abrasion in areas where rubbing or other causes of wear may occur. Insert the hose through a large diameter, non-conductive, thick-wall tubing for protection. Fig. 1 P1 04304 Installation Procedure WARNING ELECTRIC SHOCK HAZARD Contact with charged components of the isolation system or spray gun electrode will cause an electric shock. To avoid an electric shock, discharge the voltage by following the procedure in the Isolation System instruction manual before touching or servicing any system components. 4. Remove the old fluid hose (A) and metal hose connection fitting (P1) from the gun manifold. See Fig. 1. 5. PRO 5500wb only: Install the plastic fitting (5) included in the kit into the manifold fluid inlet. See Fig. 2, page 4. 6. Install the plastic strain relief fitting (4) included with the kit to the Isolation System. Secure the fitting with the plastic cabinet nuts (3). See Fig. 2. 308688 3

Installation 7. Follow the Installation Requirements on page 3, and install PVC, insulation, or hose supports as needed. Refer to Fig. 3. 8. The barbed fitting end (D) of the fluid hose goes to the gun. Refer to Fig. 2. Route the hose from the voltage isolation system, through the insulation and supports, to the spray gun. 12. Assemble the ferrule nut (2) and ferrules(1) onto the Isolation System end of the hose. See Fig. 4. Insert the hose (G) through the Isolation System strain relief fitting (4). 13. Install the hose into the fluid outlet fitting. Tighten both the fluid outlet fitting nut (H) and the strain relief fitting (4) to secure the hose. 9. Inspect the fluid hose installation. Make sure all electrical grounds are at least 6 in. (152 mm) away from the hose, including any metallic fasteners that were used. PRO 5500wb 5 J Make sure that the hose is protected in any areas where hose abrasion could occur. 10. Make sure the spray gun fluid inlet is clean and dry. E F 06857 11. Install the fluid hose as instructed in the Spray Gun manual. PRO Auto Xs wb J NOTE (PRO 5500wb): The ferrule nut and ferrules (J Fig. 4) are part of the fluid hose assembly. The ferrule and nut (1, 2) that come with the kit are assembled at the Isolation System end of the hose. See Fig. 2. Fig. 4 TI1802B 308688 5
