WELCOME TO CAMP FRIENDSHIP, DISCOVERY & A PLACE TO BELONG Y Summer Camp is more than a summer activity for kids. It is a place for achievement, leadership and relationship building. It is a place for opportunities to explore nature, find new talents, try new activities, gain independence and make lasting friendships and memories. And, of course, it s fun too! The Y strives to offer the highest quality camps with the most diverse opportunities. A lot of effort is put into creating a fun, safe environment by carefully selecting staff of the highest integrity, personal and spiritual maturity, and enthusiasm about camp. STAFF With a counselor to camper ratio of no more than 1:10, the friendly, knowledgeable counselors are dedicated to ensure that camp is an amazing experience for every camper. The goal of every counselor is to enrich the development of every camper by implementing safe and nurturing activities. All counselors must meet the following criteria before becoming involved with camp: It is comforting to CPR & First Aid Certification know that I can send Completed Bloodborne Pathogens Training my child into your care throughout the Completed Child Sexual Abuse Prevention day and feel safe and Training secure that my child Completed Safety Training is being well taken care of. CAMP DETAILS Camp Hours Monday-Friday 6:30am-6:00pm CAMP GONNAHAVEFUN will run from June 8-September 4 Each Camp will be assigned a seperate drop off and pick up location at the Y THE SUMMER OF STORIES The Y s CAMP GONNAHAVEFUN combines what you already know and trust about camp with great new elements designed to help your camper grow and thrive over the summer! Each day, campers will be bussed from The Y to Munson Park (except field trip days). Upon arrival at Munson Park, the campers will spend their day participating in a variety of camp activities that promote volunteerism, health and wellness, academic achievement, and independence. CAMP GONNAHAVEFUN will continue to partner with The Monroe Parks and Recreation Department in our participation of Stewardship Monroe. This partnership will continue to develop as we participate in additional projects throughout the community. Campers will be bussed back to The Y in the afternoon to enjoy swim time, snack and wrap-up activities. In the event of inclement weather, campers will participate in activities at The Monroe Church of the Nazarene or The Y. HEALTHY LIVING The CATCH (Coordinated Approach to Child Health) program is coming to CAMP GONNAHAVEFUN! This health and wellness program is designed for those in grades K-8, focusing on physical education and nutrition education. CATCH is designed not only to encourage a healthy lifestyle, but also models that being physically active and making nourishing food choices can be fun! This program is available to campers thanks to grant funding provided by the Michigan Department of Community Health. SUMMER LEARNING Camp focuses on summer learning. Though a collaboration with The Monroe County Library System, campers will participate in The Y Readers Program. In addition, the campers will have the opportunity to participate in specialty camps, weekly themes and educational field trips. SERVICE LEARNING An important element of CAMP GONNAHAVEFUN is service learning in the community through participation in Stewardship Monroe, a collaboration with the Monroe Parks and Recreation Department. Service learning integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility, encourage lifelong civic engagement, and strengthen the community for the common good. Community involvement through collaborations with City of Monroe Parks and Recreation Department, and Monroe County Library System will teach campers the importance of being a productive citizen to strengthen our community.

THE PLACE TO BE CAMP GONNAHAVEFUN is an INCLUSIVE camp, where all those entering grades K-12 are welcome! Camps are designed in a grade-progression manner based on the interest and ability levels of each camp. ALL CAMPS ARE BASED ON THE GRADE YOUR CHILD IS ENTERING CAMP CARES4U (GRADES K-2) Campers will have the opportunity to learn about the YMCA core values through activities that foster an environment of caring. CAMP TRUBLU (GRADES 3-5) Campers will participate in a variety of activities that are designed to teach self-reliance, a love for nature and the outdoors, build character, independence, and leadership, and allow all campers to be a part of their camp community while focusing on the YMCA core value of Honesty. CAMP RESPECTERS (GRADES 6-8) Campers will spend the summer enhancing independence, responsibility, and leadership skills. Campers will engage in activities that will focus on team-building, creating a sense of respect among the participants. CAMP GREEN LEADERS (GRADES 9-12) Green Leaders will be the participants of the Leaders In Training (LIT) program. This camp will provide opportunities for the older campers, in grades 9-12, to develop leadership skills and experience through a focus of the YMCA core value Responsibility. Career-building skills are also fostered, through an interview process to become an LIT. LIT applications are available at both Member Service Desks at the Y and online at ymcaofmonroe.org/main/summer-camp. LIT APPLICATIONS ARE DUE MAY 11.
