WELCOME TO CAMP FRIENDSHIP, DISCOVERY & A PLACE TO BELONG Y Summer Camp is more than a summer activity for kids. It is a place for achievement, leadership and relationship building. CAMP GONNAHAVEFUN is designed for kids preschool age through high school. It is a place for opportunities to explore nature, find new talents, try new activities, gain independence and make lasting friendships and memories. And, of course, it s fun too! The Y strives to offer the highest quality camps with the most diverse opportunities. A lot of effort is put into creating a fun, safe environment by carefully selecting staff of the highest integrity, personal and spiritual maturity, and enthusiasm about camp. STAFF With a counselor to camper ratio of no more than 1:10, the friendly, knowledgeable counselors are dedicated to ensure that camp is an amazing experience for every camper. The goal of every counselor is to enrich the development of every camper by implementing safe and nurturing activities. All counselors must meet the following criteria before becoming involved with camp: It is comforting to CPR & First Aid Certification know that I can send Completed Bloodborne Pathogens Training my child into your care throughout the Completed Child Sexual Abuse Prevention day and feel safe and Training secure that my child Completed Safety Training is being well taken care of. You have a Cleared I-Chat Background Check wonderful staff and it is apparent to me Cleared Abuse and Neglect Check through the that they are genuine Michigan Department of Human with their actions and Services interactions with the children there. CAMP DETAILS Camp Hours Monday-Friday 6:30am-6:00pm CAMP GONNAHAVEFUN will run from June 8-September 4 Each Camp will be assigned a seperate drop off and pick up location at the Y THE SUMMER OF STORIES The Y s CAMP GONNAHAVEFUN combines what you already know and trust about camp with great new elements designed to help your camper grow and thrive over the summer! Each day, campers will be bussed from The Y to Munson Park (except field trip days). Upon arrival at Munson Park, the campers will spend their day participating in a variety of camp activities that promote volunteerism, health and wellness, academic achievement, and independence. CAMP GONNAHAVEFUN will continue to partner with The Monroe Parks and Recreation Department in our participation of Stewardship Monroe. This partnership will continue to develop as we participate in additional projects throughout the community. Campers will be bussed back to The Y in the afternoon to enjoy swim time, snack and wrap-up activities. In the event of inclement weather, campers will participate in activities at The Monroe Church of the Nazarene or The Y. HEALTHY LIVING The CATCH (Coordinated Approach to Child Health) program is coming to CAMP GONNAHAVEFUN! This health and wellness program is designed for those in grades K-8, focusing on physical education and nutrition education. CATCH is designed not only to encourage a healthy lifestyle, but also models that being physically active and making nourishing food choices can be fun! This program is available to campers thanks to grant funding provided by the Michigan Department of Community Health. SUMMER LEARNING Camp focuses on summer learning. Though a collaboration with The Monroe County Library System, campers will participate in The Y Readers Program. In addition, the campers will have the opportunity to participate in specialty camps, weekly themes and educational field trips. SERVICE LEARNING An important element of CAMP GONNAHAVEFUN is service learning in the community through participation in Stewardship Monroe, a collaboration with the Monroe Parks and Recreation Department. Service learning integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility, encourage lifelong civic engagement, and strengthen the community for the common good. Community involvement through collaborations with City of Monroe Parks and Recreation Department, and Monroe County Library System will teach campers the importance of being a productive citizen to strengthen our community.
THE PLACE TO BE CAMP GONNAHAVEFUN is an INCLUSIVE camp, where all those entering grades K-12 are welcome! Camps are designed in a grade-progression manner based on the interest and ability levels of each camp. ALL CAMPS ARE BASED ON THE GRADE YOUR CHILD IS ENTERING CAMP CARES4U (GRADES K-2) Campers will have the opportunity to learn about the YMCA core values through activities that foster an environment of caring. CAMP TRUBLU (GRADES 3-5) Campers will participate in a variety of activities that are designed to teach self-reliance, a love for nature and the outdoors, build character, independence, and leadership, and allow all campers to be a part of their camp community while focusing on the YMCA core value of Honesty. CAMP RESPECTERS (GRADES 6-8) Campers will spend the summer enhancing independence, responsibility, and leadership skills. Campers will engage in activities that will focus on team-building, creating a sense of respect among the participants. CAMP GREEN LEADERS (GRADES 9-12) Green Leaders will be the participants of the Leaders In Training (LIT) program. This camp will provide opportunities for the older campers, in grades 9-12, to develop leadership skills and experience through a focus of the YMCA core value Responsibility. Career-building skills are also fostered, through an interview process to become an LIT. LIT applications are available at both Member Service Desks at the Y and online at ymcaofmonroe.org/main/summer-camp. LIT APPLICATIONS ARE DUE MAY 11.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE The Y encourages parents to give their children the experience of camp to help keep them healthy and engaged during the summer and beyond. To ensure that all kids have this opportunity, The Monroe Family YMCA has a financial assistance program to help families in need send their child to camp, which is made possible by way of our generous donors to The Annual Campaign. We are proud to announce the Monroe Family YMCA is now an open Summer Food Site! Through a community partnership with the Monroe Housing Commission and Speckled Frog Early Learning Center, and grant funding through the WalMart Foundation, FREE lunch will be provided to campers every day (including field trip days)! The daily menu will comply with the YMCA S Healthy Eating and Physical Activity (HEPA) Standards. This lunch opporutunity is also open to youth in the community up to age 18.
WEEKLY THEMES Weekly Day Camp Themes create an atmosphere of fun and learning! These themes guide weekly activities, including arts, games, contests, team-building and speakers. Activities support summer learning throughout the summer. This will teach kids to test the boundaries of their knowledge, discover fascinating facts and new areas of interest, while understanding what they are capable of achieving, building leadership skills and building relationships. WE ARE FAMILY Week of June 8-June 12 Be sure to join us at the first week of camp as we focus on building relationships through family building activities. Summer Day Camp of course! Join us for camp this week, as we make new memories that will set the course for the entire summer. ARTFUL ANTICS Week of June 22-June 26 Discover your inner artist and play your way into the art world. Activities throughout the week will help you have fun exploring the basics of art. H2WOW! Week of June 29-July 3 As temperatures rise, we ll stay cool with a week devoted to all things H20! The week will conclude with the Annual Boat Regatta. CHRISTMAS IN JULY Week of July 6-July 10 Join us for a week devoted to decorating contests, Holiday crafts, caroling, and maybe even a visit from Paul, our YMCA Elf on the Shelf! MYSTERY WEEK Week of July 13-17 In every child, there is a small detective just WAITING to come out. Who is eating my lunch? What just made that noise? What happens when I try opening my juice box with my teeth? Kids want to learn and know and investigate and this is the week for it! ALL BALL Week of July 20-24 Come have a ball as this week s focus is on all things ball including soccer, baseball, and maybe even cricket! SUPER SLIMY Week of July 27-July 31 Be prepared for a wacky week of sticky, icky, slimy, gooey stuff. Dress to get messy!

End the week with a VIP pass to our very own YMCA Kids Choice Awards Show! SPIRIT WEEK Week of August 17-August 21 We ve got spirit, yes we do, The Y is the place to be! Celebrate what being a kid at the Y is all about building experiences to last a lifetime! CALLING ALL PRESCHOOLERS! Preschool Camps are designed for those ages 3-5, all children must have completed toilet training. Camps will provide play-to-learn activities that encourage the cognitive, physical, social and emotional growth. In addition, camps will provide social interactions, encourage creativity and teach listening and direction following skills in a fun, nurturing environment. BALLS, BALLS, BALLS July 6-July 10 9:30am-11:30am Ready for action with all kinds of balls! We will learn the basic skills associated with several different sports using balls. Registration deadline is July 2. FUN WITH FOOD June 22-June 26 9:30am-11:30am Join us this week as campers learn to have fun creating edible masterpieces, play games, and even learn a thing or two about nutrition! Registration deadline is June 18. LET S GET MESSY! June 29-July 3 9:30am-11:30am Get Messy Camp will provide your preschooler the opportunity to explore and have fun with paints, shaving cream, mud, bubbles, and more! The messier the better! Registration deadline is June 25. WILD ABOUT READING July 13-July 17 9:30am-11:30am This camp promotes the love of books and reading! We start each day reading a popular children s book and then participate in activities related to the book s theme and characters. Registration deadline is July 9. SPORTS AND SPECIALTY CAMPS Grades K-6 All Sports and Specialty Camps are week-long camps that run half day (unless otherwise noted). Campers will spend the week focusing on their favorite sport or area of interest. No experience is necessary to attend these camps. Knowledgeable camp counselors will implement a deeper understanding of each sport or interest. Sports and Specialty Camps are open to everyone entering grades K-6. Those participating in CAMP GONNAHAVEFUN may register for Sports and Specialty Camps in addition to Day Camp for the price of a Full Time week of Day Camp. SPORTS SAMPLER June 15-June 19 9:00am-12:00pm Registration deadline June 11 Sport Sampler Camp will introduce campers to a variety of sports that may include baseball, basketball, floor hockey, football, soccer and much more! Campers will learn the fundamentals of each sport, individual skill conditioning to improve motor skill development and build confidence. NEW! TIME TO TRI June 15-June 19 1:00pm-4:00pm Registration deadline June 11 Spend the week learning about and training for a kids triathlon. They ll learn about fitness, healthy eating habits, biking, swimming and running skills. Space is limited. BASKETBALL CAMP June 22-June 26 9:00am-12:00pm Registration deadline June 18 Basketball camp focuses on the fundamentals of the game, including dribbling, passing, shooting, rebounding, and teamwork. This camp will help do develop skills, knowledge of the game, and team strategy. ALL ABOUT ART CAMP June 29-July 3 8:30am-11:30am Registration deadline June 25 Campers will receive instruction in art history and media including drawing, painting, recycled art and more. This is the perfect camp for any camper looking to get creative and build artistic skill! This camp will wrap up with an art show, to display the participants talents. Please note, there is an additional $5 supply fee per child. MESSY MASTERPIECES June 29-July 3 12:00pm-3:00pm Registration deadline June 25 Messy Masterpieces Camp will encourage kids to have fun getting messy! Participants will work together to create messy creations with paint, shaving cream, glitter, and much more! This camp will encourage social development and creativity. Register for All About Art Camp and Messy Masterpieces and receive a $10 discount off registration for each camp! CHEER CAMP July 6-July 10 8:30am-11:30am Registration deadline is July 2 Cheer Camp will focus on the different techniques of cheer. Campers will have fun learning to perform with poise and confidence. Campers will also learn the technical movements, cheers, and chant's. The importance of safety and skills to build master jumps will also be taught. This camp will wrap up with a performance of the skills learned throughout the week.
DANCE CAMP July 6-July 10 12:00pm-3:00pm Registration deadline July 2 Campers will explore ballet, jazz, hip hop, tap, and modern dance, and even create their own dance routines! This camp is the perfect introduction to a variety of dance styles and can help your young dancer decide which dance form they would like to learn more about. VOLLEYBALL CAMP July 13-July 17 9:00am-12:00pm Registration deadline July 9 Volleyball camp will teach campers the fundamentals of volleyball, including the rules of the game, setting, spiking, and volleying. Skills and confidence will be built through skills and drills, as well as games both in the gym and in the sand. BASEBALL CAMP July 20-July 24 9:00am-12:00pm Registration deadline is July 16 Baseball camp focuses on skill building and the fundamentals of the game. The knowledgeable counselors will provide instruction on hitting mechanics, fielding, throwing, catching, and field positions. Every camper will be provided the opportunity to build sportsmanship, enhance personal skills, and gain confidence. CRAZY CONCOCTION SCIENCE July 27-July 31 12:00pm-3:00pm Registration deadline July 23 Discover a week of all things science! Campers might build a super strong bridge, or a geodesic dome that you and your friends can sit in. Explore the world of birds and beasts with birdhouse building and super bug investigation. Campers will roll up their sleeves in the chemistry lab and mix, mash and brew concoctions to create cool sidewalk chalk and bath fizzers! Campers will have the opportunity to visit Detroit Science Center for an additional fee. It s a week packed with non-stop science fun! FOOTBALL CAMP July 27-July 31 9:00am-12:00pm Registration deadline July 23 Football Camp will focus on developing the camper s skills and agility. The fundamentals covered will include passing, catching, kicking, pass routes, defense and positions. Campers will reinforce the techniques learned by playing flag football. NEW! FLOOR HOCKEY CAMP August 3-August 7 9:00am-12:00pm Registration deadline July 30 Campers will learn the basics of floor hockey including stick handling, rules, passing, and shooting. Campers will have the opportunity to learn about teamwork and solidify the skills learned through games. PERFORMING ARTS CAMP August 10-August 14 8:30am-11:30am Registration deadline August 6 Join us for performing arts camp as we give campers the opportunity to explore their artistic abilities in all areas of the performing arts including acting and improvising, dance, musical theater, comedy, and stage combat. CLOWN AROUND CAMP August 10-August 14 12:00pm-3:00pm Registration Deadline August 6 Clowning Around Camp will teach campers a variety of skills clowns must have. These skills include magic, balloons, puppetry, face painting, and everything in between! Clowning Around Camp will challenge your camper to do foolish things, but do them with enthusiasm. Clowning Around Camp will wrap up with the Annual Camp Carnival on August 14. Register for Performing Arts Camp and Clown Around Camp and receive a $10 discount off registration for each camp! SOCCER CAMP August 17-August 21 9:00am-12:00pm Registration deadline August 13 Soccer Camps focus will be teaching soccer skills such as passing, trapping, shooting, stealing, dribbling, and goal keeping.
