Golden Jubilee Hostel, GBPUA&T, Pantnagar organized Swachhta Sangoshthi under Swachhata Hi Seva programme on 25-26 September 2017 The President Shri Ram Nath Kovind launched the nationwide jan aandolan, Swachhta Hi Seva. This follows an impassioned call by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, ahead of the 3rd anniversary of Swachh Bharat Mission that falls on 2nd October, 2017. The objective of the campaign is to mobilise people between 15th September and 2nd October, reigniting the jan aandolan for sanitation. He urged all Universities, NGOs, schools, colleges, social, cultural and political leaders to accelerate Swachhata activities during the September 15 October 2 period. Honorable Vice Chancellor of GBPUA&T, Pantnagar gave a call to all the Hostels to organize different programme as Swachhta Sangoshthi, Poster and Essay Competition on Cleanliness under Swachhata Hi Seva campaign from 15th September 2017 to Gandhi Jayanti on 2nd October 2017. With regards to above call, Swachhata Hi Seva campaign organized in the Golden Jubilee Hostel, GBPUA&T, Pantnagar. Permission of this programme was granted by concerned authorities Chief Warden, Dr. A. K. Shukla, Dean Student Welfare, Dr. S. P. Singh. In this campaign many programme like Swachhta Sangoshthi, Poster, Power Point Presentation and Essay Competition on Cleanliness have been organized by Hostel Warden, Dr. Arpita Sharma. On 25 September 2017, a series of ccompetitions viz; Poster, Power Point Presentation and Essay Competition on Cleanliness were organized in the Hostel. For summative evaluation of all these activities, a five point rating scale was judiciously prepared with respect to each activity. Judging committee comprised of three Professors from different colleges of GBPUA&T, Pantnagar: [1] Dr. Ragini Mishra, Assistant professor, College of Home Science [2] Dr. Sonika Chauhan, Assistant professor, College of Technology [3] Dr. Abha Bansal, Chairman of Women Club. All these activities were evaluated on five parameters of Cleanliness. For Poster competition, many school childrens have participated. Posters were evaluated on five parameters viz; Creativity, Simple, clear and innovative idea, Attractivebrevity-Clarity [ABC], Presentation Skills. For Essay competition, many students of hostel have participated. The essay was evaluated on five point scale viz; Message designing, Originality and Clarity of Idea, Creativity, Focoused, Writing skill and Readability. For Power Point Presentation competition, hostel students have given their presentation on Cleanileness. This was evaluated on five point scale viz; Clarity, Creativity/Originality of idea., Designing of slides, Verbal Communication and Non verbal Communication. Swachhta Sangoshthi: A Swachhta Sangoshthi was organized in Golden Jubilee Hostel on 26 Sept, 2017. Dr. Jyoti Prasad, Addtional Dean Student Welfare was the Chief Guest in this programme. Professor, Dept. of Genetics and Plant Breeding, Dr. Sunil Kumar, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Animal Breeding and Genetics, Dr. Ritu Singh, Associate Professor, Dept. of HDFS, College of Home Science, Dr. Naresh Karnpal, Beauro Chief of Hindustan, Dr. Neelkant, SMS, KVK, Jagdhar were guest speakers in the Swachhta Sangoshthi. Programme was convened by Hostel warden, Dr. Arpita Sharma. On the occasion, Beauro Chief of Hindustan Newspaper, Dr. Naresh Karnpal, stressed on keeping the hostel and surrounding neat and clean. He said that people s participation play a very important role in making Swachh Bharat a reality and cleanliness is both, a right and responsibility of each and every citizen of the country. About the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, Dr. A. S. Jeena, Ex-Additional Dean Student Welfare and Professor, Dept. of Genetics and Plant Breeding, motivated the students to clean their hostels as well as classrooms also. He said that students should help to keep classrooms and University premises clean and beautiful. He encouraged the students to put waste in appropriate bins so that they develop a habit of disposing of waste properly. He again said that cleanliness, personal hygiene, good sanitation provides a clean college environment for the students to keep them in good health. Speaking on this occasion, Dr. Sunil Kumar, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Animal Breeding and Genetics emphasized about decompostion of the hostel foodwaste and garden waste. He said that every student should take care to use the school properties such as chairs, tables, duster and chalks properly. He again said that students should not write on the chairs, tables and on the walls of classrooms as this is also a part of cleanliness and being a hostel inmates every student should help to their cleanliness workers to maintain the toilets clean and hygienic. Dr. Neelkant, SMS, KVK, Jagdhar in his address, said that cleaning is really essential. We should keep our hostel rooms and its surrounding neat and clean. A clean room is not just nice to have, it is actually a necessity for good mental and physical health. He said that cleanliness is good for healthy mind and this is often achieved through cleaning ourselves as well as our surroundings. In her speech, Dr. Ritu Singh, Associate Professor, Dept. of HDFS, talked about a phrase of Mahatma Gandhi, "Three wise Monkeys", representing the principle "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil". She told that we should not talk negative with others, not listen negative to others and should not think negative about others. It will distroy our positivity. She again said that mental cleanliness is very important and cleanliness is key responsibility of every students. In her address, Chief Guest, Dr. Jyoti Prasad, Additional Dean Student Welfare, emphasised about mental cleanliness. She said that cleanliness is important for healthy mind, body and spirit. She added that internal cleanliness is also equally important as outer clealiness. She again emphasized that cleanliness brings feeling of physically, mentally and socially well being and helps to make good personality and thus good impression on others.
Internal cleanliness also shows our clean character and our good personality. Thus, it gives rise to good character by keeping body, mind and soul clean and peaceful. She again emphasized that positive thinking leads a man to success. She motivated all the students to add value and positivity to their life. She also appreciated the efforts of warden, students and staff of hostel regarding celebration of Swachhta hi Seva ' in hostel. Hostel Warden, Dr. Arpita Sharma announced the names of winners of Poster, Essay and Power Point Presentation. The first, second and third winners of Poster Presentation programme were [1] Gautam, Anupam and Neha [2] Nikita and Mukesh [3] Nikhil. Winners of Essay Competition were [1] Ms. Mahima and Ms. Harpriya [2] Ms Arjita [3] Ms Rajani Pant and Ms Pratima. The winners of Power Point Presentation competition were [1] Ms. Harpriya and Ms. Jeewanti [2] Smriti [3] Ms. Priyanka. The prizes to winners will be distributed in the annual function of Hostel. Addtional Dean Student Welfare, Dr. Jyothi Prasad congratulated and blessed all the winners and also appreciated the efforts put in by the students and the hostel warden. Hostel Warden, Dr. Arpita Sharma, organizer of Swachhta hi Seva programme said that we have also organized 'Swachhta Pakhwada' in our hostel. During the coordination of the programme she said that our hostel students and hostel staff are regularly participating in hostel cleanliness. She said that we will follow our responsibility regarding cleanliness. She also told that we have organized Art of Living Course in our Hostel for mental Cleanilenss. As cleanliness of body and mind improves the self-respect of every person, without our inner cleanliness we can not be a sucessful person. Thus, we should maintain the cleanliness and hygiene of our surroundings and ourselves. Programme ended with vote of thanks and a proverb Cleanliness is next to Godliness which means through the practice of the proper cleanliness we can keep ourselves physically and mentally clean which really make us good, civilized and healthy human being.
