Dr. Nancy Cushen White is a Clinical Professor at the University of California San Francisco, Department of Pediatrics, a teacher, and a learning disabilities specialist. She has a private practice, assessing and remediating language based learning problems and consulting with both public and independent schools. She serves on the Board of the Slingerland Institute and is a former member of the Board of Directors of the International Dyslexia Association (IDA). Additionally, Dr. White has more than thirty years experience in public schools as classroom teacher and program consultant in special education curriculum with San Francisco Unified School District. She has served on advisory and content review panels for California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, Curriculum Commission, and CA Department of Education. Bonnie Meyer Bonnie Meyer currently serves as the Executive Director and as a member of the Faculty Senate of the Slingerland Institute for Literacy. She is also the Vice Principal and Reading Specialist at Our Lady of the Lake Parish School in Seattle, WA. She has worked with dyslexic students since 1986 and is the parent of an adult dyslexic son. She also serves as the secretary of the Washington Branch of the International Dyslexia Association. She is a Certified Slingerland Instructor of Teachers and is a certified D.I.B.E.L.S. trainer. She has spent 30 years training teachers and teaching students. Prior presentations include the IDA, WABIDA, and Teacher Excellence Day for the Archdiocese of Seattle. Kathleen Conklin Kathleen Conklin is a first grade teacher at a private Catholic school in Seattle. She has a BA in English and Elementary Teaching Certification with a Reading Endorsement from Gonzaga University and a MA in Curriculum and Instruction in Reading from Grand Canyon University. Kathleen is a director for The Slingerland Institute for Literacy and a member of their Faculty Senate Executive Committee. Kathleen is also the vice-president of the Washington Branch of the International Dyslexia Association. She presented at both the 2013 and 2014 National IDA conferences, focusing on strategies to best meet the reading, writing, and communication needs of dyslexic and SLD students in the regular classroom. Kathleen is currently seeking her Principal Certification at Seattle Pacific University and has been working closely with her school s Student Success Team to develop an implementation plan for a comprehensive support program in middle school.

The Institute takes this time to honor and recognize newly certified staff, new training staff, strategic partners and supporters. We invite you to come celebrate with us. The luncheon cost is an additional $40. If you are traveling from out of town and need accommodations, rooms are available at the Westin! In an incredible sprit of community activism and support, the Westin Hotel has contracted with the Institute to reserve several deluxe view rooms at a greatly reduced rate. A quick description of the hotel, amenities and room rate is set out below. The Slingerland Institute s Teacher Education Fund is pleased to provide a subsidized rate for the deluxe view rooms starting at $90 per night + taxes. These rooms are limited and will be provided on a first -come first-served basis. GROUP ROOMING LIST: Online reservations are not available so please indicate your accommodation needs on the enclosed Educational Workshop Registration Form. Your room registration must be completed and returned no later than Monday, March 14, 2016. There are a limited number of rooms. Rooms will be released to the general public on Friday, March 30, 2016. Room prices are based on single or double occupancy. Deluxe View Single 1 King bed Deluxe View Double 2 Queen beds PAYMENT: The hotel rooms are part of the Slingerland Institute Westin Master Account. Online registration will automatically calculate and include the room fee. If using the mail-in registration form, the Institute will send you an invoice for your guest room. Payment is due BEFORE your arrival. Guests are still responsible for any incidental charges such as room service and spa services and will be required to present a valid credit or debit card when checking in to the Hotel. Hotel amenities include: Deluxe view rooms, restaurant/bar/lounge, business center, swimming pool, day spa, fitness center, dry cleaning services, 24-hour front desk, wireless internet access (fee applies), 24-hour room service, luggage storage, parking (fee applies).

WESTIN HOTEL DAILY PARKING. Parking is available in the Westin Parking Garage located beneath Lincoln Center. Parking on Saturday and Sundays is free of charge. For other days, the Hotel will validate parking tickets for the first three hours in the parking garage. Monday-Friday, if you choose to park in the Westin Parking Garage, please bring your parking ticket to the third floor of the hotel in order to validate it. The hourly rates for the parking garage are as follows: Self Park Valet Park Hours 1 $3.00 (validation avail.) Hours 1-3 $7.00 (validation avail.) Hour 2 $1.00 (validation avail.) Hours 4 and above $1.00 per additional hour Hour 3 $1.00 (validation avail.) Hours 4-10 $1.00 per hour maximum of $14.00 per day WESTIN HOTEL OVERNIGHT GUEST PARKING. *The overnight rate for parking at the hotel is $27 per night or $32 per night if you use the valet service. (*Rates may change without notice) There are various forms of transportation to and from the airport. Below are brief descriptions of the services available. The Institute is not making transportation reservations for any arrivals but has worked with Shuttle Express to provide a reduced shuttle rate to/from the airport. (800) 487-7433 http://www.shuttleexpress.com SHUTTLE EXPRESS provides shuttle service from the Sea-Tac Airport to the Westin Bellevue hotel. The special Slingerland group rate per passenger to and from the airport is $19. You can make your travel reservations using the Shuttle Express reservation link provided on the Slingerland website (http://events.slingerland.org look for the Transportation link ). The online reservation site will allow you to make one-way or roundtrip reservations. The van leaves the airport hourly, on the hour. The van leaves the Westin Hotel hourly, at 45 minutes past the hour. Advance reservations are required when leaving from the hotel. If you are traveling with others, you may want to use the Share-Ride Service. Those services are detailed on the company website. Shuttle Express is located on the 3rd floor of the parking garage of the SeaTac Airport. The best bus to take from SeaTac Airport is Route 560 Bellevue (NOTE: There is a Route 560 to West Seattle DO NOT TAKE THAT BUS!). You may purchase bus tickets at kiosks in the area. The bus leaves from Bay 2 at SeaTac Airport. A schedule is posted there. Weekday buses run from 5:00 am to 11:30 pm. Saturday and Sunday buses run from 6:30 am to 11:25 pm. The Transit Center is approximately three blocks east of the Westin Hotel. OTHER FORMS OF AIRPORT TRANSPORTATION: Taxicabs are available at the airport. Rates vary. Car rentals are also available from Advantage, Alamo, Budget, Dollar, Hertz, National, Thrifty, just to name a few. LOCAL TRANSPORTATION: The hotel is pleased to assist you with any local transportation needs. Please check with the front desk at the hotel to make any requests and they will contact the taxi, limousine or shuttle service you need.
