River City News May, 2017 MEETING TIME & PLACE 2ND Monday 7:00 PM* Golden Corral Zumbehl Rd St. Charles, MO MISSOURI DISTRICT - REGION E Rider Education Alive in W2

From the Directors Chair May Motorcycle Safety Awareness Let s ride safe. I don t know about you but I sure am aware my motorcycle is sitting in my garage ready to go. You know they say April showers bring Mayflowers, I think I saw it floating down St. Anthony the other day. Maintenance Day was great; we learned a few things, worked on quite a few bikes and had great fellowship while doing it. I want to thank Greg and Mary Hoette for the use of their home and great hospitality. Don thanks for the awesome equipment to change anti-freeze, it works great. Scott may have been a little apprehensive at first, but once he saw he was in good hands, he was all in. When you have the opportunity to learn something new, it is always a successful day. Weather did not cooperate with the Lincoln Museum trip, but that will be for another day. As you will read in Jerry s article we had a great couple of seminars, with a lot of discussion and interaction. This is the last of the GWRRA Seminars for now, but rider training is just around the corner. Trike Class on May 13 and Marty is trying to put together a MSF Two wheel course; information for both is in the newsletter. It s time to call it, it is Riding Season, lets prepare to get out there and enjoy the open road. Clean, fill the tank, check your helmet, headset and riding gear and get ready for good time. This month we are going to focus on rider training and Niehaus Appreciation Days; this year we ride to Powhatan Restaurant for breakfast and then a back road venture to Niehaus. After I win the new Gold Wing, then some will venture over to the Prairie Town Chicken Dinner for some fine eats. Diane has confirmed the Chicken Dinner is on. During the Seminar and TEAM W2 meeting there was discussion of some New Member Packet, we are working on that and plan to roll it out some time this month. I think everyone can use the original and have it with them when folks ask about GWRRA. So things are starting to happen and there is only one way to be part of it; Participate, Participate, Participate. We also sent out the information about Bike Display and Blessing at Friendship Village, Rascals Game and Riding the Dragon in July, more about that at the gathering Monday May 8, see ya there. Chapter W2 on the go, watch us roll. If you want to have an impromptu to ride, go to the Chapter W2 Facebook page let folks know or let Marty or Bob know; we will try to get it out through Gmail. May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, but remember those that don t ride are still not looking for motorcycles; so be careful and be seen. So remeind your friends and family:

Ride Decisions. This past month we had a Rider Education seminar called Riding with New and Inexperienced Riders. It was a small attended class but some very good discussions and ideas came out of it. We try to ride in team riding style, sometimes when it would be best done in group riding style. Some of us truly enjoy riding in formation, but for the new person to our group, is it a lot to expect? We discussed how important the pre-ride meeting is, but we haven't really asked those who might be new or a new ride, if they want to ride in the group. We discussed ideas of giving out maps to our rides, making sure we call out single file when riding on 2 lane roads. The fact we need to use the whole lane on 2 lane roads. We need to find out who might not feel comfortable on the inside track or outside track. Find out their speed preference. Another possibility is splitting up into different groups depending on riding styles. A lot of ideas came up and we need to make sure everyone is included and feels comfortable. Let's not forget about any medical issues that might be of concern. When we ride in a group or as a team ride we need to be concerned about everyone. Our lives depend on each other to keep us all safe. Ride safe and enjoy life Jerry
