WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW Welcome Families & Campers What a great summer we had last year! We made new friends, saw new things and had the best time ever! I have an action-packed summer planned for us this year, including new field trips, new games and more opportunities to make new friends. The dedicated staff, age-appropriate activities, new field trips, team building, sports and hands-on crafts come together to make the best summer ever. As positive role models, our counselors provide campers with an enriching summer experience. Our focus is on developing the potential of every camper, while creating a warm and nurturing environment where all campers can play, challenge themselves, make friends and have a wonderful experience! -Caitlin Boese, Camp Director Registration & Payment In order to register your child for camp, a $25 per session/per child deposit will be paid at the time of registration. The $25 deposit will be applied to the camp fee/balance. (Deposit is non-refundable and non-transferable). Registration and health forms must be completed in full and submitted at the time of registration in order to secure your child s place in camp. Parents may register campers before their session starts. All participants must become Y members at the time of registration. For all policies and procedures, see parent handbook which can be dowloaded from the Malden YMCA website at www.ymcamalden.org Switching Registration For safety and communication purposes, changes to your child s registration will require a written e-mail two weeks before the child is registered in order to discontinue the draft. Campers will have the opportunity to explore and experience the greater Boston area on several field trips. Campers must wear their Y- designated shirt given out on their first day of camp. Details will be included in weekly camp schedule located at www.ymcamalden.org or can be received at pick-up or drop-off. Campers will receive a shirt for each week registered up to five weeks. Swimming Campers will have the opportunity to swim throughout the week. Campers swim at the Malden YMCA indoor pool and various beaches. All campers are swim tested before they are allowed to participate in open swim. Age 5 Campers Age 5+ may attend a full day camp program if they have completed a full day educational environment for at least one year prior to enrollment in a full day camp program. No naps provided. 5 year old attendance will be evaluated on an ongoing basis to ensure positive camp experience and child s readiness for full-day activities. 3
CAMP MADACA DAY CAMPS are designed for a wide variety of conventional interests that include arts & crafts, group games, nature exploration, swimming, field trips and more. Campers are typically grouped by age. Most camp activities will be held indoors with outdoor activities provided based on the day. EXTENDED BEFORE & AFTER CARE Fun Club Provides before & after camp care each day. Activities include arts & crafts, board games, high-energy games & quiet activities. Camp Madaca About the camp What better way to spend your summer than at the YMCA Summer Camp Madaca? Each day of Camp comes packed with the perfect amount of activities and fun. Children will get to make new friends, go on exciting adventures, and participate in activities in a structured and nurturing environment. Our goal is to provide children with the opporunity to encourage belonging and appreciate diversity. Core Values The Malden YMCA has identified the core values of respect, responsibility, honesty and caring as essential in a child s character development. Camp Madaca provides the opportunity to incoporate these values into the overall camp experience each day. Campers who exemplify these values are recognized each day of camp. Voyager Tribe Outdoor Only, Pine Banks Park 8-12yrs The Voyager Tribe is a full-day outdoor camp located in heart of Pine Banks Park. The tribe allows for a traditional outdoor day camp experience. We focus on character development, building team players and building appreciation for the outdoors. Trips for the Voyagers include outdoor locations involving boating, hiking and several other traditional outdoor experiences. Campers will be transported via YMCA-buses to the main facility at 99 Dartmouth during inclement weather. Every Tuesday campers need to be dropped off at the Malden YMCA. CAMP MADACA INDOOR BEARCAT 5-6yrs The Bearcat tribe is for five to six year olds only. The camp runs for the full day. Our goal for Bearcats is to build an emphasis on safety, which is why Bearcats swim up to four times every week. Three of those include swim lessons led by our very own Y swim instructors. M-F: $220 T,W,Th: $156 Bearcats will take a different field trips during the week. Trips range from jumping around at Skyzone to Painting at Plaster Funtime. Most trips will be held on Tuesdays. Child must be completely toilet- trained to participate in camp. Bearcat Activities - Hiking - Musical Games - Sports BADGER 7-8yrs The Badger Tribe is for seven and eight year olds. The focus of this tribe is character development. We try to accomplish this task through a number of activities that require campers to work through new experiences involving outdoor education. M-F: $210 T,W,Th: $150 Badgers will have a beach trip and field trip each week. Most field trips will be held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (Beach Trip) * All trips are subject to change based on availability scheduling and weather. EAGLE 9-12yrs The Eagle Tribe is for campers nine to twelve years old. Much like the Badgers, we focus on character development, building team players and having a lot of fun. We use a wide array of activities and field trips that will build on these core characteristics throughout the summer. M-F: $210 T,W,Th: $150 Eagles will have a beach trip and field trip each week. Most field trips will take place on Mondays and Thursdays. Eagle Activities - Choice - Dance - Team Building * All trips are subject to change based on availability, scheduling and weather. Belonging GRIFFIN 13-14 yrs The Griffin tribe is designed to offer the opportunity for young teens to build skills in team work and community service. Griffins will spend half the day building skills in small group activities. They will then spend the other half of the day facilitating other camp groups with their activities. They will also have community service projects throughout the local community. Tribe size is smaller and may be offered either indoors or outdoors based on the activities.
