The strategy leverages the systems Airport Land Use Compatibility Plan to incorporate appropriate land uses around the airport that can support the systems long term viability. The identified Airport development areas are strategically located to maximize the opportunity for airport connected development that will also attract core business types that will be supported by the larger community. SMF is strategically located at the confluence of major transportation and commerce corridors that feed into one of the most prosperous mega regions in the country. This makes SMF property positioned to attract businesses in a wide variety of markets throughout our three development districts. The figure to the left is a representation of the highway network and the distance in miles from SMF to neighboring regional cities. It is approximately ten miles from the development sites to Sacramento s central business district. Within fifteen minutes of SMF, visitors will discover aviation and aerospace developments as well as logisitcal and warehouse resources. Establishments for hospitality, offices, and other events are supplemented by retail, entertainment, and dining spaces. Being the state capital, Sacramento is also home to a heavy concentration of governmental establishments and land uses.
