There was delicious food and great camaraderie!!! We have a sign up list for our outbound trip to West Coast for June 2017 that was passed around at the meeting. It was great to see Harry Yarbrough at the picnic. A special thanks to Sherry and Dan for all their work to organize the picnic, to everyone who helped set up and to those doing the grilling. We will forward news for the 2016 African inbound exchange and the 2017 New Zealand exchange as we get more information. We look forward to seeing you at the next meeting on Sunday, July 17th at the Ridge restaurant. Linda Kadechuk, President of Friendship Force of Big Canoe/North Georgia Board Meeting June 14, 2016 Present: Barry & Linda Kadechuk; Ray & Margie Bowyer; Robert & Margaret Logan; Alan & Mary Ellen Johnson; Jeannette Waldrop; Fred Mullins; Sherry Wileman; Dan Hunsberger; Peggy Anderson Open World - A $100 donation was given to 8 organizations that helped us provide information for our visitors.

Sherry discussed our meetings/activities for the year. June 26th picnic at the Big Canoe Wildcat Pavilion; July 17th meeting 5:00 at Ridge Restaurant (Cumming), speaker Tim Anderson (Israel); August 21st meeting TBD (Jeannette agreed to check out Fuegos in regard to no music during our meeting); September 18th France discussion (Mary Ellen agreed to ask Monique @ Habitat For Humanity to speak); No meeting in October due to Outgoing Exchange; November meeting may be moved to another date due to Thanksgiving holidays; December 4th Social. Biarritz/Spain Robert noted that the hosting fee will be 200 Euros. The host matching sheet has been sent to those who are going. It was suggested that final fees be due on June 26th. Copies of necessary documents will be sent out soon. There is a waiting list of 1 person. The exchange dates are from October 2 8. A language sheet of useful French verbs, nouns, phrases, etc. would be helpful. Membership Fred led the discussion about recruitment and told of his conversations with FFI Headquarters. He shared some statistics and questions. Barry agreed to put a flier at the Big Canoe Post Office about our picnic on June 26th. Sacramento/Oregon Barry stated that the exchange will be the first week of June, 2017, to Sacramento. Sherry & Dan are coordinating the second week of June in Oregon. The 3 agreed to have a sign-up sheet at the picnic to find out who is willing to commit to the trip and will get together and plan transportation between the 2 clubs. New Zealand Alan stated that their club will visit us in late September of 2017. He will be coordinating this time with a Texas club as they will be doing a 2 week exchange. Information from FFI Linda stated that a thank-you letter was sent to our club for the $1000 donation. A charter change in regards to fees a couple will be charged the same as two singles. The world conference will be held every 2 years rather than annually. The World FFI conference for 2017 will be in Manchester, England. Linda was wondering if there might be interest in going as a club (need an ED). The board determined that it would be optional (no ED necessary) and that individuals/couple may sign up for the pre- and post-trips on their own. It was suggested that one of our club meetings would include volunteer work for one of the organizations that helped us with Open World, i.e. Habitat for Humanity. Mary Ellen agreed to discuss the possibility with Monique. Peggy stated that she is waiting on a response from Roger Mosshart in regard to getting land from the Terraces for a potential FF place for plaques. Respectfully submitted by Peggy Anderson FF Big Canoe-North Georgia Meeting June 26, 2016 Wildcat Pavilion Robert Logan discussed our outgoing exchange to France/Spain. He needs the fees paid by July 11th - the sooner the better due to difficulties with foreign currency exchanges. He stated that one couple had dropped out of the trip but have been replaced by a couple on the waiting list. Sherry and Barry discussed the 2017 exchanges to Sacramento/Willamette Valley. They sent around a sign-up sheet checking on individual commitment/interest in these two exchanges and a side trip to Crater Lake. Linda read two thank-you messages from the Senior Center and Habitat for Humanity for our club donations to those organizations. Discussion was held in regard to our club volunteering some time to Habitat. They have June 2016 Page 2

an opportunity for our club to help build and provide lunch for all the workers. Sherry outlined the club activities for the remainder of the year. There will be no October Meeting because of the FF international meeting. Jean Mosshart talked about meeting Norbert, Alex, Maya, Marina, and their families in Serbia and Macedonia. She stated that everyone was very pleased with their exchange to US through Open World and FF BC/NG. Linda stated that the Incoming Exchange from Africa is still expected to happen at the end of this year. She asked for hands of those who would be willing to host. Our club has committed to the first week in December; a South Florida club will host a second week. A big thank-you went out to our cooks for the excellent food and Sherry and Dan for organizing the successful picnic. Respectfully submitted by Peggy Anderson Parboil broccoli in salted water until just tender. Quickly plunge broccoli into a large bowl of ice water to stop the cooking and preserve the beautiful green color. Drain very well to remove as much water as possible. Cut the cooked broccoli into 1/2 lengths and put into a medium mixing bowl and let it cool to at least room temperature. Add onion, olives, celery and toss gently. Mix together the lemon juice, mayonnaise and add salt and pepper to taste. Toss the broccoli mixture with the dressing and top with roughly chopped hard boiled eggs. Chill thoroughly. Serve as is or sprinkle paprika, chopped chives or parsley on top for presentation. Hope you enjoy!
