HALO S HANDOUT Virginia Good Sam Club November 2018 CAMPGROUND OF THE MONTH SMALL COUNTRY CAMPGROUND 4400 Byrd Mill Rd Louisa, Virginia 23093 (540) 967-2431 SMALL COUNTRY CAMPGROUND Along the bank of Lake Ruth Ann, on the grounds that now make up Small Country Campground, we have uncovered evidence of rich history in various layers that transpired there. American Indians who lived on these grounds left tokens of their history in the of many arrowheads and artifacts we have discovered in our playground and fields. Beneath the Lake and at the Campground entrance, we have come across the foundations of homes built in the 1700s. By the Old Well, we see flowers and shrubs from that era still in bloom. Prior to the Civil War, in 1823, the Payne Family built a two-story log home that has evolved today into our Manor House. This very same log home was filled to the brim helping injured soldiers, used as a field hospital during the Battle of Trevilian Station, largest all-cavalry engagement of the Civil War. Afterwards, the 50-acre farm sat in neglect for several years, farmed only by a neighbor, Earl Ogg. HTTP://WWW.SMALLCOUNTRY.COM RV TIP OF THE MONTH MAINTAINING YOUR RV TIRES So last month we talked about tire pressure and care of them. This month the topic will be storage of the RV for winter and the how-to for your tires. First off, you will need to thoroughly clean your tires and wheels. Then inflate them to their max manufacturer rating. It is recommended that you do not store your RV with the tires on pavement of concrete. You can buy tire storage plastic mats or you can use plywood. Once stored, you can place your tire covers on. Micheline recommends tire drapes so the tires are protected. Air circulation is critical to the tires can breathe.

AS THE DIRECTOR OF THE VIRGINIA STATE GOOD SAM CLUB, I WANT TO WISH EVERYONE A VERY BLESSED THANKSGIVING. HOPE WE ALL HAD FUN THIS SEASON AND HOPE TO SEE YOU SOON. November is known for pilgrims and Thanksgiving. The trees start to change color, there is a nip in the air and the smell of hot cider. The raking of leaves, cutting wood for the fireplace and getting the yard seeded and fertilizer down for the coming cold. We all start worrying about the holidays coming up such as Thanksgiving and Christmas. So remember to take time for yourself and friends and family and your camping families. We can have dinners together and slowly get into the holiday spirit. Make sure everyone feels the love and admiration you have for them, give them a call, send them a card. Also remember the less fortunate members of our communities and be generous. PLEASE DON T FORGET TO EMAIL YOUR CAMP OUT SCHEDULE FOR 2018 TO: PDOE871610@AOL.COM THIS MONTH S CLUB SHOUT OUT? WINTERIZATION SERVICE PT2 So as we store our rigs away for the winter unless you are a snow bird, your RV will need to be winterized. Last month I talked about batteries, electronics and getting all the food out. Last night I went on Youtube and found a step by step video on how to winterize my rig by a Tiffin representative. Cathy and I have a Tiffin so not sure how useful it would be on another brand of motorhome but believe it would be useful on most motorhomes. You could always search for your brand/ model and see what you find. So Part Two; Putting a cover or tarp on your RV. There are many brands and sizes but here are just a few quick things to consider. But before you cover your unit, you will want to thoroughly clean it. If you are unable or cannot clean your rig yourself, consider going to a truck wash and have them wash it. You can usually find them at a truck stop. Remember to tell them to turn the de-greaser off so you do not hurt your clear coat paint. If you use a cover make sure the cover is securely and tightly fitted to the rig. If the cover is loose, it could blow away. If could also scratch the paint or damage the rig. It is also a good idea to cover sharp edges. You can use old bath towels or tape some pool noodles around it. If you have a diesel pusher, it is recommended that your store your rig with a full fuel tank so algae and water will not be able to build up. Make sure your tires are properly inflated and if possible, park the tires on either wood or plastic. If parked on asphalt, the tires will absorb the oil from the surface. After blowing all the water out of your lines, place some antifreeze into the p-traps and leave the facets open to allow for any expansion. Remember if you have a washer or dishwasher, run the antifreeze through it, one small cycle will do. If you have any questions, please consult a qualified RV mechanic or call your manufacturer.
