September Volume 119 September 2013 President s Message Hello fellow MSC members, When my kids were young, it seemed Labor Day always marked the end of Summer, beginning of the school year and, before we knew it, Christmas would be upon us. So here we are, marking the passage of Summer and already looking forward to the first flakes of snow. WWW.MODESTOSKICLUB.COM So far, this Summer has been filled with fun activities for our club members, and we're not finished quite yet. Last month, we had a wonderful time kayaking down the Mokelumne (despite the very low water level) followed by a barbecue and the wonderful wines of the Viaggio Winery. Kudos to the owners of the Viaggio for allowing us to use their beautiful grounds at no charge! This coming weekend is our camping trip to Spicer Reservoir. Ron and I took a trip up to Spicer last weekend to scope out the grounds for everyone. While it was a little hazy, the smoke from the Rim Fire wasn't bad. Be sure to look for the rest of the upcoming activities in this months newsletter. As a reminder, when you're using the Lodge, please be sure everyone (including your guests) signs the Lodge Book. Also, if you decide to use the fireplace, please do not clean it out. We have members who do this for us on a regular basis. These past few months, I have taken the opportunity to learn a little about our club's history. I am so proud to be a part of such a wonderful, fun, and active club! If you get the chance, sit down and talk with some of our long time members. The club history is fun and fascinating. I hope to see you all at the next general meeting, September 10, at the home of the Bogetti's. Sincerely, Pam Shelton President [1]

MODESTO SKI CLUB LODGE NEWS Wow, where has the time gone. Hard to believe we are going into the Fall Season soon. The Lodge looks great and has been used a lot this Summer. The Fall Work Weekend is September 27-29, 2013. Please contact me if you are interested in participating in this fun event. You really get to meet and hang out with a fun group of members and sometimes guests, as well as learn a lot about what it takes to take care of this wonderful Lodge we are blessed to be able to use. The keys are changed at the Fall Work Weekend. If you are a Season Key Holder, please get your current key back to at the Work Weekend or before your next trip to the Lodge before October 31, 2013. I will swap out the key with you so you are able to use the Lodge for the remainder of your Season Key Holder time frame. With our New Year starting, Season Key and Winter Key sales will follow the renewal of your membership of the Ski Club. Please alert me of any issues at the Lodge when you are staying. Please use my email or home phone to leave me messages or to book reservations at the Lodge. Home phone is 209-571-8125 and email is mnighte@aol.com. Thanks, Michelle Nightengale Lodge Chairperson [2]
