At least 42,000 tonnes should be arriving over these two weeks for Chinese New Year, 30 days after having been shipped 20/12 3/1. Shipments are now virtually finished and according to this data, while shipments to China are 36 per cent ahead of last year the combined Hong Kong / China trade is 15 per cent lower. Shipments to Taiwan are down 25 per cent. There has been 25 tonnes recorded trade to South Korea in week 3 while trade to Japan is remained at 13 tonnes for the season.

No trade to Hong Kong has been recorded. These volumes appear to be over 50 per cent lower than last year for the period. Last season Chile exported almost 95,000 tonnes to China and Hong Kong combined, 50,000 tonnes to South Korea and 10,000 tonnes to Japan. Shipments to Thailand and Vietnam did not start until February last year.

These figures remain considerably lower than at the same time last year particularly since shipments for CNY would need to be in transit by now. Last year 5,398 tonnes were shipped to Hong Kong and 4,172 tonnes to Taiwan for the full season.

This is tracking 89 per cent ahead of last year although there is only negligible trade to Hong Kong. Last year 10,419 tonnes of plums were shipped to China, 12,912 tonnes to Hong Kong and 1,140 tonnes to Taiwan for the full season.
