Reaping the rewards of recycling Endeavour Foundation s venture into the recycling industry is creating a brighter future in a host of different ways. The organisation s portfolio of products and services in the recycling industry has continued to grow over the last couple of years. Its wide range of jobs has led to people with a disability developing work and business skills, while helping the environment. Endeavour Foundation s electronic waste (e-waste) recycling continues to hold a prominent place in the growing success of our recycling industries. The e-waste businesses in Townsville, Redcliffe, and Southport employ 70 people with a disability. E-waste is Australia s fastest growing waste disposal problem, Endeavour Foundation Recycling Operations Manager Rick Guy said. Our e-waste recycling centres are able to recover up to 95 percent of materials from these unwanted technology items, such as old televisions, computers and computer accessories. Leslie Docherty has been working in the electronic waste program at the Foundation s Redcliffe site for just over three-and-a-half years, and loves the variety of tasks he is able to do in his job. I like dismantling as well as pulling apart TV s and printers as well as using tools, especially the Pneumatic Screw Driver, said Les. I also like recycling and sorting plastic, steel, aluminium and glass and working in a team. In total, Endeavour Foundation business services recycled and processed 42,095 tonnes of unwanted items in 2013-2014, including 750 tonnes of television and computer parts saved from landfill.
