COLLECTIVE VOICE MAKES EFFECTIVE CHOICE The Joint Faculty council Meeting of IITTM faculty from all centers was held on 11th and 12th May 2014 at IITTM, Noida. Prof. SandeepKulshreshtha, Director, IITTM inaugurated the function by planting saplings in the campus. Faculty Council evaluated the progress of the decisions taken in the previous meeting. Many fruitful decisions have been taken for the smooth conduct of the upcoming academic sessions. The syllabus of the PGDM Programmes has been revised. LET'S FOLLOW THE GREEN SIGNAL An orientation programme on eco-tourism for local community was held from 28-31 May 2014 in Mirzapur and Gabakunda. This programme was sponsored by Integrated Coastal Zone Management Project (ICZMP). The objective of the training programme was to sensitize the locals on sustainable eco-tourism, dolphin conservation as well as promoting nature-based tourism as an alternate source of livelihood for the local fishermen. Mr. N. Subramaniam, Assistant Professor, IITTM, Bhubaneswar was the coordinator of the programme. Editor s Note IITTM, Bhubaneswar gears up for the World Tourism Day celebrations. The upcoming days are packed with celebrations and state level competitions in association with Odisha Tourism. In this backdrop we are coming with yet another fantastic edition of e-communique. I hope the array of articles and features in this issue of will exhibit the seasonal glow of renewal and enrichment. We are trying to live up to the expectations of keeping up to the standard of the earlier edition. We aim to provide a good balance of captivating content, offering new ideas, fresh perspectives and a visual treat through images. LEARNING IS CONSTANT AND NEVER ENDING The Refresher Course for Regional Level Tourist Guides was conducted from 3-14 June 2014 at IHM, Kolkata. 65 participants from Eastern Region attended the course. Regional level Tourist Guides have to participate in the Refresher Course within three years of the issuance of a Guide license to them and thereafter, once in five years. Licensed guides are required to successfully pass the Refresher Courses for Renewal of their licenses. LOOK DEEP INTO NATURE The Department of Tourism, Govt. of Odisha through Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management offers Eco-Tourist Guide Training programme for sensitising youth to create awareness among the local community about the need for developing eco-tourism activity in the eco-tourism attractions in the state. This programme is under Scheme of Capacity Building Training programme for Local Youths on Eco-Tourism under State Youth Policy- 2013. The programme was inaugurated by the Director, Tourism, Govt. of Odisha. The first phase of the progamme started on 23rd June 2014.As an initial step four eco tourist destinations such as Chilika Wildlife Sanctuary, SimilipalWildlie Sanctuary, Bhitarkanika Wildlife Santuary and Satkosia Wildlife Sanctuary has been identified. Youths from these regions have under gone the training. The duration of the programme is 12 weeks 8 weeks classroom teaching, 3 weeks practical training and project report preparation and one week presentation and evaluation. Participants who successfully complete the course are eligible for a stipend of Rs. 3000. It is envisaged that the community will become efficient in running the eco-tourism based activities in a sustainable manner at the destination.
A COUPLE OF NEW FACES WITH MILLIONS OF DREAMS Campus welcomed the fresh batches of PGDM (TT) & PGDM (IB) with a weeklong orientation programme. It helped the students to familiarize themselves with the campus and to get to know about the prospect of the course. Many experts from tourism and logistics handled interactive sessions. Talks of Alumni who are holding respectful positions in the industry inspired the students. The p r o g r a m m e c o n c l u d e d w i t h a familiarization trip to the major tourist destinations in the city. THE EAST MET THE WEST A student exchange programme was organised in the campus on 6th August 2014. As part of the programme 13 student delegates along with two professors from different universities in USA visited the campus and interacted with our students. Dr. S.K. Lenka, Nodal Officer, IITTM enthralled the delegates with an overview of the historical heritage of Odisha and its immense potential for tourism. Professor Annapurna Pandey from San Jose State University gave an insightful talk on Scenario of Women in India as compared to USA: Focus on Women travelers. Professor TrailokyaPandey shared his views on Odisha and India as favoured destinations of the future. Through this programme which is culturally enriching and academically rewarding, students have had the opportunity to experience life from a different point of view. PROUD TO BE AN INDIAN It is the proud privilege of IITTM to celebrate our nation's 68th Independence day with great splendor, joy and respect for Mother India. National flag was hoisted by the Nodal officer and after which his speech was followed. Every one paid homage to the millions of lives that sacrificed for the freedom of our nation.

SOW THE SEEDS OF HARDWORK, REAP THE FRUIT OF ACHIEVEMENT Yet another golden feather added to the crown of IITTM, Bhubaneswar. IITTM has been conferred with "Competition Success Review (CSR) Top Institutes of India Award- 2014". IITTM won the coveted award for its outstanding contribution in imparting t o u r i s m a n d h o s p i t a l i t y education in India. BEGINS A FRESH CHAPTER 28th August was a fun filled day where the fresher's been on the spot light to show their talents and competed each other for the Mr. & Miss. Fresher's Crown. Every year it is a customary in IITTM to celebrate the Fresher's Day as this is an opportunity to make the new comers feel at home, even though away from home, to imbibe in them the faith that they are not alone. This year's celebration was inaugurated by Prof. SandeepKulshreshtha, Director, IITTM.
THE JOURNEY OF A THOUSAND MILES BEGINS WITH ONE STEP IITTM is all set to steer the event facilitator programme as part of Hunar Se RozgarTak Scheme (HSRT). The Govt. of India, Ministry of Tourism has launched Hunar Se Rozgar Scheme, way back in 2010 to create employable skills in the interested youth who are in the age group of 18-25 years and who are minimum 8th pass. Under the scheme training has been given in Food & Beverage Services, housekeeping and food production. In the meeting to discuss the agenda for Action Points for the first 100 days agenda of new Government, there emerged an understanding that a training programme to bring up event facilitators would greatly contribute to a tourist friendly service. In the context, it was decided to add the proposed trade along with others covered under HSRT. IITTM, where excellence is a way of life, has years of expertise in dealing with training programmes and workshops of Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. The Director, Department of Tourism, Government of Odisha inaugurated the programme on 2nd September 2014 and addressed the participants.
