5. KIX Air Cargo Hub Formation of KIX-Medica constant temperature storage for pharmaceuticals has further improved the value of KIX as a distinctive logistics hub. FedEx is establishing a new North Pacific Regional Hub at KIX to serve as a consolidation point for shipments from northern Asia to the U.S. It is expected that the facility would be in operation in Spring 2014. We find that the location of KIX is convenient for both the major Asian markets and cities in the United States, and it has also had outstanding 24-hour operations since its opening in 1994. NKIAC/FedEx press release dated May 25, 2012 5
6. Kansai International Airport (KIX) Kansai Airport was developed on an offshore reclaimed island in order to minimize the negative impact of airport operations on the surrounding environment. 6
7. Environmental Management Project KIX has established and is working on 44 specific targeted initiatives under the Eco Island Promotion Plan which are divided into five different kinds of activities: 1. Create an airport that Protects the pleasant regional environment 2. Create an airport with a low impact on the global environment 3. Create a recycling airport (3Rs: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) 4. Create an airport that values nature and supports personal interaction 5. Create an airport that exists in harmony with local residents and users The KIX Smart Island Plan, Phase 3 of the Environmental Management Project (2013-2018), is currently effective. 7

9. Smart Grid Community Connection between energy management and airport operations Smart airport energy management project for the next-generation is focusing on intelligent usage of energy, effective utilization of the natural and renewable energy, and development of eco-friendly system. To keep on the airport operation even in case of disaster, natural and renewable energy generated at KIX could serve as emergency supply of electricity. Smart energy management technology could be dispersed globally as an environmentally sustainable airport infrastructural model. 9
