ABOUT FIELDS MADE KNIVES My knives are made one at a time and in small batches in my shop. My emphasis as a knife maker is the production of knives and tools that, above all else, are functionally excellent, and that will inspire the user in his or her craft. This catalog includes blade profiles of the models of leather working knives and blades that I offer, as well as prices. These prices are for the standard handle treatment, which is usually Mesquite, but subject to variation, and hardware would be basic brass bolsters and pins. Other handle treatments are available at an additional cost above the prices found in the catalog. I do not have any additional shipping charges on any of my items, unless I am sending something outside of the United States. I do collect sales tax, and that is not included in the catalog pricing. All of my leather working knives are made out of O1 tool steel, unless otherwise specified. My knives are sharp and ready to go to work when I put them in the hands of the user. My leather working knives are sharpened with a highly polished convex edge. These edges are both highly effective on leather, and long-lasting. Meticulous care for the edge by the user will give the user the best results in terms of edge retention. It is important that edges be stropped before, during, and after leather work if the user is to maintain a useful tool. Additionally, blades should be thoroughly dry when put away, and stored in a way that protects the edge. O1 is not a stainless steel, but it is an all-time great for taking and holding and edge. I offer sharpening services for knives that I have made. I do not offer sharpening services for anything that I did not make. Sharpening costs start at $25. This includes return shipping to U.S. addresses. The cost may be more according to factors such as damage to the blade, neglect of care, etc. If you want to send a knife in for sharpening please contact me by phone or e-mail first so that I can ensure your knife is received, sharpened, and on its way back to you in a timely fashion. It has been my good fortune that demand for my knives has steadily increased over the years. It has been impossible to keep inventory in stock for some time now, so practically everything that I make is to fulfill an existing order. To place an order all you have to do is call me or send me an e-mail telling me what you d like and I can get you down in the order book. I do not need any money at the time that you place your order. I take full payment when your order is finished and ready to ship. My wait time fluctuates, but usually it takes about 12 weeks from the time an order is placed until it is completed. Being a one-man operation means that various factors may significantly effect the wait-time. I do all that I can to keep my customers from waiting any longer than they have to for their knives. I appreciate each and every one of my customers, and I find it extremely gratifying that I get to make a living doing something that I love for the really talented and interesting people that make up the leather working community. I appreciate you for taking the time to look over my catalog and find out more about my knives. If you have any questions, if you d like to place an order, or if there is anything else that I can help you with please do not hesitate to contact me by phone or e-mail. Sincerest thanks, Joshua Fields
