Harley Riders. Even though it is winter time, we have had surprisingly warm weather and we were able to get a few rides in. On Sunday, January 29th, (after three tries) we got our Polar Bear Ride in led by Asst. Head RC Gary Kinkle. It was a well attended ride around the north shore of Long Island and back to the Texas Road House in Deer Park for lunch. On a great spring like day in February, RC and past President Fred Grumpy Hartmann lead about 35 bikes to Hurricane Grill and Wings for lunch. As in the past, we kept with tradition in February and had our Chili Contest. We had eight entries with Steve Ficalora coming in first, Richie Truran took second and last but not least Cindy Doerler came in 3rd. Hopefully, the warm weather will keep up so we can get more rides in. Looking ahead,there are lots of rides and events planned. Our St. Patrick s Party is planned for after the March monthly meeting. One of my most rewarding rides is our Easter Bunny Ride to Winthrop Hospital on April 15th to bring gifts to the children in the Pediatric Care Unit for Easter. It is a very rewarding event and I hope everyone can attend. Our Bike Blessing will take place in April. For those of you that are going, or thinking about going, on our Grand Canyon ride there will be a meeting very soon to discuss details so look out for it. Monthly Meeting February 26, 2017 In Ken s absence, George Foundotos, Treasurer did a great job leading our monthly meeting! He and Dom gave us some important info for when we ride. Have a card in your wallet that lists prescriptions & allergies can be a life saver! It's also important that you list a contact person not riding with you in your ICE information. Check your Helmet! You need to change your helmet every three to five years so be sure to check the date inside your helmet. It cannot be older than 5 years. Make sure your bike is inspected. Single file! When the pic has his flashers on and puts up 1 finger to signal that the road captain's are coming up, everybody should be in a single file in the right side of the lane. Also, there should be no big spaces between bikes. If someone leaves the line, wave up the person behind so the space is filled. Dom will be putting together a Riders course. Details TBA. BRRRRRR! It was a cold one on Sunday, February 5th, but RC Sal Fino led 11 brave souls on a chilly morning ride. They rode the back roads north and south of the expressway through Yaphank, Manorville, down Mill Rd. out to Calverton then through the back roads of Rocky Point. We finally had some nice riding weather! Thirty bikes and 37 members joined RC Fred Grumpy Hartmann on Sunday, February 19th, for a ride through Eastern Long Island. RC Nadine led a short, leisurely ride after the meeting taking some nice back roads. Then, she led the group back to the VFW so everyone could enjoy our Annual Chili Contest.
