A look at the Egyptian world tourist exchange More European tourists visited Egypt this year. A recent report by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) showed that Europe sent the largest number of tourists to Egypt in July 2017, with around 418,000 visiting the country. In December 2017, Russian Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov and Egyptian Civil Aviation Minister Sharif Fathi signed a cooperation agreement on civil aviation security in preparation for the resumption of flights between the two countries. And an info graphic made by Russia Today revealed that 300,000 Russian tourists will arrive in Egypt in the initial period following the lifting of direct flights set to come into effect in February 2018. In the year, 2017, Egypt's promotional campaign has won the best Tourism Promotional Video in the Middle East at the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization (WTO) in China, beating out 63 other contestants. According to the importance of the Chinese tourism market, it was one of the Egyptian government main targets, the Tourism Minister Yehia Rashed said that negotiations were underway to put on three additional flights a week between Cairo and Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou, in addition to increasing air traffic from China to the Red Sea and Mediterranean coasts. The tourism authority in the Chinese Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region also signed an agreement with the Egyptian Tourism Authority in September 2017 that should see both sides cooperate to boost tourism. The increase in the number of flights and the diversity of means of transportation between China and the Arab world have also contributed to the surge in the number of Chinese tourists heading to visit Arab destinations. Flights from Guangzhou in southern China to Cairo increased since July 2016 to seven flights per week. Aside from increasing flights, the Egyptian government is facilitating visa procedures for the Chinese citizens, and is now considering issuing e tourism visas for Chinese tourists. All these facilitations led to the number of Chinese tourists coming to Egypt increasing by 94% during the year 2017, compared to the same period in the year 2016. According to statistics issued by the Egyptian Embassy in Beijing, during the first five months of the year, 2017, Chinese tourists visiting Egypt reached 150 thousand.
