Closed toes shoes Sun screen Hat Refillable water bottle Specific programs (seine/dip netting) may require a bathing suit, water shoes, and a change of clothes There are picnic tables and pavilions located inside Burt Reynolds Park near the River Center. If they are available, your group is welcome to use them for lunch or snack time. The Chiki Hut next to the River Center can also be utilized if available. We recommend a 1:6 ratio of counselors / chaperones to campers for younger groups (ages 5-9) and 1:10 for older groups (ages: 10+). Camp staff, chaperones, and counselors will be active participants for the entire duration of your stay at the River Center. Directions: From I-95 or the Turnpike: Get off at the Indiantown Road exit in Jupiter. Take Indiantown Road east until you reach US Hwy. 1, make a left. You will go through one stoplight, at the next flashing yellow light make a right into Burt Reynolds Park. The River Center is the light blue building with the metal roof. We are located next to the fire station. Please call 561-743-7123 if you need further assistance finding the River Center. We would appreciate a courtesy call if you think that your group will be more than 15 minutes late for your program. Gift Shop There is a gift shop at the River Center if you would like your campers to have the opportunity to shop. We ask that if your campers wish to go into the gift shop that they be accompanied by a chaperone. Please limit the number of students to 5 at a time so that it does not get too crowded. To help you keep your group moving, we suggest that you allow only the campers that have money to spend to enter the gift shop. Thank you for shopping at the River Center and supporting our programs! Please note that a $25 program fee applies for any missed programs.

2014 Summer FUN Trip K - 12 th Activities Each program includes a tour of the River Center, a Touch Tank demonstration, and ONE of the following activities. Please choose one for your field trip, or ask River Center staff to help you choose the best option for your campers! Nature Scavenger Hunt (Outdoor): Discover the island through nature. Campers learn about seeds, plants, crabs, snails, etc. that naturally occur in Burt Reynolds Park. Groups are then split into teams to hunt for these special native treasures. Shark Bites (Indoor/Outdoor): Campers learn about special shark adaptations and participate in activities to better understand how keen shark senses are. Campers will also take a shark survey to see what we know vs. what we believe about sharks. Campers may get wet during this activity. Recycle Relay (Outdoor) & Reuse Craft (Inside): Teams race to get all the recyclable items in the proper bin. This is a fun and active way to get kids recycling! Campers will then have an opportunity to create their own special reused pottery, seeds included, to take home with them. Nature Rainbow Art (Inside) & Looking at Leaves (Outside): Campers practice their observation and collection skills by comparing leaves, seeds, flowers and other interesting items found in our local bird garden. Kids will then create their own unique works of art using materials gathered from nature! Sea Urchin Lab (Indoor): Campers find their inner scientist as they conduct basic behavioral experiments with LIVE sea urchins! Campers will participate in an activity to learn how sea urchins survive in their environment; compare them to other aquatic species, and the adaptations needed for survival. Mangrove Tug of War (Outdoor): Campers explore the mangroves, the creatures that live there, and learn to identify the three different types of mangroves using multiple senses. Afterwards campers participate in multiple games of tug of war to show what happens when changes in the mangrove habitat occur and the vital role they play in Florida s ecosystem. Oh Osprey! How Many Ospreys Live in this Estuary? (Indoor) This activity is designed to give campers a better understanding and appreciation for the life and struggles of this unique and rare bird. Campers, in effect, become ospreys and compete with man for living space, food, and other obstacles, as well as giving them a chance for a brighter future. Seine/Dip Netting Experience ($1.00/camper additional fee.) (Outdoor) Campers will explore the estuary at Burt Reynolds Park by wading in coastal waters utilizing scientific collection techniques to gather live aquatic animals. Campers will also learn about mangroves, food chains, and the Loxahatchee River s unique and special ecosystem. *** Campers get wet and MUST wear protective water shoes (no flip flops). Subject to tides, and must be pre-approved by a River Center Educator before scheduling this activity. Programs and activities may be customized to accommodate your campers needs. Turtle Tots (Indoor): Learn more about the turtles living at the River Center; get up close and personal with these awesome animals! Find out the differences in turtles that live in the Loxahatchee River while playing fun counting games! Note: This is not a sea turtle program. Hiding in Plain Sight (Outdoor): Animals come in all shapes and sizes and live in all different kinds of environments. Campers learn how animals in the wild must find food and avoid being eaten to survive. Campers will play games of a modified hide and seek to learn about important physical and behavioral adaptations in many wild animals such as camouflage, hiding, being a predator, and learning how to survive. Programs and activities may be customized to accommodate your campers needs.
