All I can say is, is that all!!!, wait until my second meeting!!! Attendance at our monthly meetings continues to grow and be a great social event. The January meeting estimates were close to 100 people in attendance. We must be doing something right. After attending both the Maritime and Social Committee Planning Meetings, I can pass on they have a fun year planned out for us. I am looking forward to some really good times. They are really making my job easy. St Augustine Trip Our first Maritime event for 2014 was the St Augustine trip to take in the city lights. The folks that were not able to make it, missed out on a great event. Meehan s Irish Pub was a winner. I am glad I passed up tickets to the AFC Championship Game to attend our Club event. Kudos to Marsha and her helpers who pulled that together on short notice. Ten Tenors As a new type of event for our club this year, Carol and I are hosting a night at the theater with the Ten Tenors in early April. We have reserved an area at the Flagler Auditorium so we can all be seated together. Page 3 Latitude 29.28 Official Publication Of The Flagler Beach Yacht Club, Inc. Longitude 81.08 Commodore Pictures Ice Breakers FBYC Call to Action With the recent artic blasts and polar vortex weather issues hitting the east coast and the threat of ice storms dipping dangerously close to our Florida abodes, your FBYC Board of Directors sprang to action. We convened an emergency meeting to discuss and develop a contingency plan incase we become threatened with artic ice storms. We knew that if the water ways were to ever freeze over, it would impede many of our Club social events. Having open and free access to the channels is key to many of our necessary Club functions such as; raft-ups, picnics, socializing at local establishments and such. After a few adult beverages, ideas flowed and a plan formulated. Next was to gather up our artic gear and snow shovels. Problem one surfaced, who here in Florida has a snow shovel? Not to be deterred we found other shovels, picks, salt and blow torches that we could use and launched the FBYC Ice Breaker. Armed with the equipment, we navigated the canals and channels practicing and honing our skills. It didn t take long and we were ready. Surprisingly, we identified a secondary benefit. Always being ecologically aware, we discovered that any ice we chopped and removed could be recycled for use to keep adult beverages cold. FBYC, rest easy, we are prepared!!!!!!

Page 4 Vice Commodore Bob Jaeger scubadome@aol.com 386-446-9110 What a great time FBYC had at Meehan s Irish Pub in St. Augustine last month! Thanks go out to Marsha Barry for making all the arrangements and to the Irish Pub for welcoming us at the last minute (our original restaurant didn t finish their renovations on time). The food and service were great and the evening was topped off with complimentary homemade Irish Mist!! I d go back just for the Mist!! In recognition of the recommendation from our social committee to try new restaurants in the Flagler/Palm Coast area, our next social will be held at Houligan s Sports Bar, located across from the Home Depot, and next to Ruby Tuesdays in Palm Coast on Tuesday, February 4. Happy hour drinks are from 5:00 7:00 PM. Bring a stub from a movie show, order 10 wings and you ll get 6 wings free! Since it s Two-riffic Tuesday at Houligan s there will be 2 appetizers for $10. The next general meeting will be held on February 20 th. Our theme for the evening, Be My Valentine, will certainly be both romantic & fun!! I m sure our lead for the evening, Sandie Ostresh will have a few surprises in store, so don t miss our February meeting!! The March social will be held at the Golden Lion on March 4 from 5:00 PM till The Lion is undergoing some renovations to their kitchen at the beginning of February, so we all look forward to seeing what new goodies they will be able to cook for us (we already know how good their drinks are!!). Don t forget to sign up early for our St. Patrick s Day Dinner on March 20 th. The dinner is first come, first serve, so be sure to get your name on the list NOW and get your $5 to Linda Jaeger at the February meeting. Since this annual treat is usu- ally a sell-out, members will be taken first. Jeanne Meyer and Linda Jaeger are the leads and their St. Pat s team will really be cooking up a storm!! Ah, I can smell that corned beef, cabbage, and soda bread already!! Also, be sure to mark down on your calendar the Commodore s Ball which will be held on April 26 th at the Palm Coast Yacht Club. Contact PC Randy Meyer if you have any questions.

Page 5 Rear Commodore John Extrom jextrom@gmail.com 315-430-5609 MEMBERSHIP John Extrom, Rear Commadore February 2014 With our membership at a maximum 150 and interested people in waiting we should all be proud of the club we have built over the years. The friendships and good times which have been generated over the years are irreplaceable. If you meet someone who wishes to join, we are accepting all applications and will be considered at a latter date. During the waiting process all applicants should be encouraged to join us at functions and gatherings. The Home Show was well represented by our members, special thanks for those who spent time at our booth and took the opportunity to meet new people and inform people about our club and the activities we all enjoy. A Special WELCOME BACK to the Uribe s, Ed & Lynn have rejoined the club with there 22 SeaRay. A SPECIAL REMINDER!!!! If you are attending a boating event remember those who may of sold their boat or are without a boat. Offer to share a ride and make the event just a little more special for all our members. Have a safe and happy month and keep the water under your boat-------- NOT IN IT.

Page 6 Chris Nelson & Joe Lindholm Co-Fleet Captains The first event of the year in St. Augustine, January 17 to the 19, 2014, was an excellent start to the year. There were six boats in attendance and a good time was had by all who came. The weather turned out to be warmer than anticipated so walking around town worked out fine for shopping, eating and drinking. A highlight of the trip was that no one s boat broke down during the journey there and home. The supper on Saturday at Meehan s worked out extremely well. There were 46 members and guests in attendance, and the staff of the restaurant did all they could to ensure we had a great time. The fleet Captain s would like to extend our appreciation to Dee and Marsha for ensuring this event turned out as well as it did. Our next several events are listed below: The next maritime event will be a raft up on February 22, 2014, at 1100 hrs. in the Cimarron Basin. Please review the article on raft up s in the newsletter and come with plenty of extra lines, fenders, a snack to share, and the necessary libations. Those not coming by boat but wish to hang out can contact Marty at 919-210-0070, to arrange for a boat ride to the raft up. Any other questions please contact Randy Meyer who is the lead for this event. You can contact Randy at 864-7916 or 338-1539. The March event will be the Blessing of the Fleet on March 15, 2014. This will be reviewed at the next meeting but the game plan is that all participating boats will meet at the ICW in front of Herschel King Park at approximately 1030 hrs. We will than line up in an order to be called out by Fleet captain Chris Nelson on radio channel 68. We will then proceed in this order past the Extroms dock south by the first red buoy on the right where Jane Gaulding will give a blessing to each boat in passing. Boats will then continue in an orderly fashion to Sweetwater s Restaurant by the 100 bridge. There are two marked entrance channels to the docks on both sides. Do not pull your boats in front of the bar area as there is no water there. The other areas should be fine but proceed with circumspection. It may be necessary for one boat to raft off another at the dock. Appetizers are being provided by the club but the Buffett cost $15.00 a person, (this includes tax and tip) and this must be paid in advance of the event. You may send your checks made payable to the FBYC to Joe Lindholm at 9 Crossleaf Court West, Palm Coast, Fl. 32137. You may also pay at the next monthly meeting on February 20, 2014. We can take an extra 12 people who do not have a boat or ride on our boat. If interested you may send me an email at nelson551@hotmail.com. Any other questions concerning this event may be sent to that same email or call Chris Nelson at 386-585-0445 as I am lead for this event.
