Overview Beaufort Show Report to AWI Sunday, 17 th November 2013 This was the 30 th Competition held at Beaufort and I believe was very well supported by a range of Senior and Novice shearers from across Victoria and NSW and these results all count towards The Sports Shear Aus.(Vic) Championships. Sports Shear Australia (Vic) Chairman, Roger Mifsud, participated for the 23 rd time, along with his two sons who competed as well. The support, once again, of Gary Griffin, past chair and North Central Shears organiser, along with the new Sports Shear Timing and Scoring equipment, was also very welcome. Participation by Australian Team member, Sarah Moran and a number of Open Shearers and Woolhandlers, continue to keep the standard of competition at a very high level which also encourages all other competitors Following on from last year, we have managed to achieve a total of 71 entries for 2013 from a total of 54 Competitors. We are delighted to note a total of 34 Novice and Intermediate entries along with 10 entries in our Senior Woolhandling event and 8 Novice Woolhandlers. These extra entries were achieved with the help of the Training Providers, Sophie Cameron from RIST at Hamilton and The Shearing Trainers. The Beaufort Show had a gate count of over 2000, so yet again was well supported by district people and visitors from far and wide and has been noted as the best Show ever, which was another great achievement. The Standard of shearing and woolhandling was very high and judged very professionally by 13 Shearing Judges and 6 Woolhandling Judges, all of whom are accredited by Sports Shear. The additional staff to run the whole day amounted to another 20 supporters who manned the office, time keepers, sheep transport, rouseabouts and cooks. Right: Beaufort s Peter Oddie makes a presentation to Warrnambool s Jim Robinson for the work he has put in at the Beaufort Show Shearing Competition over many years. 3
