Open Farm Day GUIDE SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER, 0 Plan your route to a day on the farm www.openfarmday.ca

Spend a day on the farm! Open Farm Day connects the public directly with farmers, ranchers and market gardeners for handson learning and farm-fresh products. Get family and friends together and head out on a fun, farm adventure. Meet local farmers, learn more about farm products, watch demonstrations, enjoy recreational activities and ask questions about farm life. Many host farms feature homegrown and homemade products for sale and some offer additional activities like a corn maze or pumpkin picking. If you want information about a specific host farm or additional activities, use the contact information in this guide to find out about scheduling and fees. Enjoy a farm-fresh supper. Make geocaching a part of your Open Farm Day experience. Open Farm Day will be registered at: www.geocaching.com by July. You can find the hidden caches of select Open Farm Day host farms by using the special GPS co-ordinates registered on this website. Go to BROWSE and search by PROVINCE. Then, look for the OFD cache identification. More caches will be added over the summer, so keep checking the website for updates. Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using Smartphones or GPS-enabled devices. It is played around the globe by people of all ages. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS co-ordinates that are listed on the geocaching website. Then, they try to find the geocaches (containers) hidden at that location. Once participants have found (or not found) the cache, they log onto the geocaches website to share their stories and photos. Note: Check www.geocaching.com or Google Earth for instructions on converting the different GPS formats for your GPS device or Smartphone. Stay safe on your trip. Wear proper shoes, not sandals. Make sure your clothes don t have tails, strings or excess fabric. Leave your pets at home. Follow all directions given by your farm hosts. Keep a close watch on your children. Do not let them wander off on their own. Do not touch or feed any animals without first asking your hosts. Do not touch, climb or play on farm machinery or buildings without permission. Use hand sanitizer when you leave each farm. For more information on Open Farm Day, contact your local Manitoba Agriculture, Food and Rural Initiatives (MAFRI) GO Office, the MAFRI Open Farm Day line at 04--, or go to www.openfarmday.ca.
