Graham Roe Phil Doyle Royal Aeronautical Society The meeting was an informal combined event with the Lancashire Panel and therefore did not keep to the usual format. Euan Mason could not attend so Ivan Dean acted as Chairman for ANW and Paul Shechter acted as Chairman for the Lancashire Committee. 2 TREASURERS REPORTS Ivan Dean read out the financial statement for ANW sent by Manuel showing a current total of 1,265.74. One question asked was have we put in a budget for the coming year and if so what amount, as it was proposed that we may decide to run a large event needing additional funding (to be discussed at the next meeting see any other business). For ANW finances see Appendix 2. 3 EVENTS & ACTIVITIES PROGRAMME - / 2016 3.1 Water management & Ice formation in Aircraft Fuel Systems Event Review Date: Tuesday 3 rd November Venue: Lecture Theatre T0.03 MMU Time: 18:00 for 18:30 Speaker: Dave Bradshaw, Commercial Director & Duncan Woods, Senior Engineer, Woodford Engineering Consultancy Title: Water management & Ice formation in Aircraft Fuel Systems Organiser: 39 people attended with a good range ages from 18 to 78. The topic proved very interesting with two speakers covering different aspects, one the B777 Icing problem at London Heathrow and the other about water in the fuel tanks freezing. 3.2 Air Accident Investigation Lecture Date: Tuesday 26 th January Venue: Lecture Theatre Warton Time: 18:00 for 18:30 Speaker: Keith Conradi Chief Inspector of the AAIB in Farnborough Title: Air Accident Investigation Organiser: Martin Baxter This is going to plan and Martin is still trying to get the visit made official at BAE Warton so the speaker could fly up to attend. We will need to provide a hotel and expenses for driving, if flying up is not an option. The point was raised that this event was initially going to be a joint event with RAeS Preston Branch. It was decided that we would ask them to joint badge it in terms of promotion. Page 2 of 9

3.3 Invitation Only Visit to MBDA UK Ltd. Date: Wednesday 23 rd March 2016 Venue: MBDA UK Ltd, Lostock, Bolton, BL6 4BR Time: 18:00 for 18:15 Numbers: 12 maximum Organiser: Andrew Medd An invitation only event with a max number of visitors limited to 12 UK nationals only. CANNOT BE ADVERTISED ON THE WEBSITE FOR SECURITY. We should have no problem filling the places so we can discuss further at the next meeting. We could include the invitations in the minutes so they would only be sent initially to the committee members, TBC. 3.4 Visit to Kaman Composites UK Date: Venue: Time: Organiser: April / May (see below) Kaman Burnley site Martin has proposed the following dates for the visit to be confirmed for the next meeting: Tuesdays 23 rd March, 5 th April Fridays afternoons 26 th Feb, 8 th April or 15 th April Friday afternoon visits would be while the workshops are working so there may be more to see. To be confirmed at the next meeting. 3.5 Met Office Lecture Date: 17 th May Venue: - Manchester or at Manchester Airport Time: 18:00 for 18:30 Speaker: Title: Organiser: volunteered to organise this for January or February, avoiding 13 Jan, 10 Feb & 17 Feb. Martin has been in contact with Rachel Deakin and proposed the 17 th May (still TBC) with a possible venue near Manchester or at Manchester Airport. 3.6 Woodford Heritage Centre Visit The Woodford Heritage Centre is now open and could be a possible venue for a visit and a meeting. 3.7 RAeS Sesquicentennial (150 Years) celebration events in 2016 Ivan Dean attended a meeting of the RAeS on the 8 th Oct to discuss the possibility of the IMechE being involved in some way. At present there are no Page 3 of 9

activities which we will be asked to participate in the planning etc., but we will be invited to attend some of the proposed events when they take place. There are no further actions on this for the IMechE at present, but Ivan will be informed if and when things are confirmed. 4 WISH LIST FOR FUTURE EVENTS A wish list of future events suggested can be seen in appendix 3. A visit to the Training and rescue centre Visit in Fleetwood was suggested at this meeting. 5 ANY OTHER BUSINESS During the discussions on finance it was suggested that the ANW may decide to organise a prestige event possibly associated with the return of the British spaceman from the space station. This could be held at the Manchester Science Museum in December 2016 similar to the ones held previously with schools etc. hence the potential need for additional funds. Martin Baxter has contacted the people involved with the project and already sent information to HQ who have also said they may be interested. It was agreed that Ivan Dean will discuss with Lisa at HQ and see what if anything has been done or if they plan to take it any further with or without or help. 6 DATE OF NEXT MEETING Monday 25 th January 2016 at David Lloyd Club, Whittle le Woods, Chorley at 18:00 for 18:30. 7 DATE OF PROPOSED IMECHE ANW COMMITTEE MEETINGS 2016 Monday 25 th January 2016 Monday 7 th March 2016 Monday 18 th April 2016 Monday 23 rd May 2016 Monday 27 th June 2016 Monday 5 th September 2016 Monday 17 th October 2016 Monday 5 th December 2016 Minutes taken by: Ivan Dean Aerospace North West 7 December Page 4 of 9
