CHARTER TIME IN NEW ENGLAND onboard GIGI II New England is rich in maritime history and is a wonderful location for luxury yacht charter. The beautiful rocky coastline, quaint towns and fresh seafood make every yacht charter a hugely enjoyable experience. The charming communities of Newport, Martha s Vineyard, Nantucket and Boston offer nautical landmarks, timeless architecture and picturesque harbors. Of course, choosing a suitable yacht to cruise aboard in this region is important, especially as the range of choice is not as prolific as in the Mediterranean. Floating ASSET however has discovered a real gem of a yacht in New England this summer the superb new 125 Hargrave motor yacht GIGI II. With her European styling incorporating full wrap-around windows, GIGI II has luxurious accommodations for eight guests. CHARTER TIME IN NEW ENGLAND onboard GIGI II Time in New England took me away To long rocky beaches, you by the bay... BARRY MANILOW New England is as varied as her people. Squeeze six states into an area smaller than Arizona and it s hardly surprising that you end up with a place of incredible diversity, varied identity and individualism. Between Rhode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine there is plenty to enjoy on your New England charter vacation. The compact area of New England also allows you to experience the entire New England coastline in a one week charter. However, you may be so enraptured by the culturally rejuvenated city of Providence, or the serenity of Cape Cod, or even the jagged rocky coast of Maine, that you choose to spend your entire yacht charter vacation in just one State of New England. The perfect place to begin your yacht charter vacation is Newport, Rhode Island, home to the famous challenging sailing yachts of the America s Cup. Before you join GIGI II spend some time exploring the beaches and strolling through grassy meadows, then visit the mansions of the Vanderbilts and the Astors. Then prepare for a yacht charter of a lifetime, with a schedule perhaps like the example below: EXAMPLE CHARTER ITINERARY: Day 1: Embark GIGI II from Newport, Rhode Island and steam to Block Island an idyllic locale some 12 nm east of Montauk Point. Popular with summer tourists, Block Island was named as one one of the last great places of the Western Hemisphere and is a great location for cycling, hiking, sailing and fishing. It also has some great beaches and offers some excellent cliff-top views. Day 2: Leave Block Island for the island of Nantucket. Biking is a great way to appreciate the island s fields and weathered shingled buildings. For a very good evening meal, try the club car or the Wawinet House in the little village of Siasconset. Be sure to call ahead to reserve your table. While you are out there, see the red and white striped Sankaty Lighthouse and the huge sand dune cliffs. Day 3: Leave Nantucket for Martha s Vineyard, which is blessed with scenic beauty and charm. Shopping is great here and a tour of the island is always interesting with the most visited spot being the brightly colored cliffs at Gay Head. You might also choose to ride the Chappy ferry to nearby Chappaquiddick island, scene of the infamous 1969 incident involving the late Senator Edward (Ted) Kennedy and his unfortunate companion, Mary Jo Kopechne. 100 Floating ASSET - May / June 2014 May / June 2014 - Floating ASSET 101

CHARTER TIME IN NEW ENGLAND onboard GIGI II Day 4: Steam from Martha s Vineyard to Hyannis (approximately 30nm; 2 to 3 hours cruising), one of Cape s Cod s earliest summer resorts. Hyannis is strongly associated with the Kennedy family, and those interested in history may like to visit the JFK Hyannis Museum, which is located in the old Town Hall on Main Street. The harbour is full of yachts and sightseeing boats and is the largest recreational boating and second largest commercial fishing port in Cape Cod. Day 5: Spend the day swimming in the Elizabeth Islands (approximately 15nm from Hyannis, yet additional cruising in the islands would increase the daily distance), and then head to Hadley s Harbor. Located amid pasture and pine at the eastern end of Naushon Island, Hadley s Harbor is magical venue that reminds one of times past, where cars are forbidden and the only means of transport are by foot, sailboat and horseback. Day 6: Leave Hadley s Harbor for Newport (approximately 2 to 3 hours cruising). Considered to be the gem of coastal New England, Newport is the perfect place to culminate your luxury yacht charter experience. Newport has been a playground for the rich and famous since the 1880 s and owes much of its architectural heritage to families like the Astor s and Vanderbilts. Take a tour of the old mansions or a stroll through the town s many landscaped gardens. Day 7: Finally and almost certainly reluctantly, disembark GIGI in Newport, with a vacation to remember and memories to cherish. GIGI is available to charter this summer in New England, through Hargrave Custom Yachts from US$80,000 per week. She is also for sale with an asking price of US$14,300,000 For further details and availability, please contact: Hargrave Custom Yachts: Tel: +1 954 463 0555 Email: miked@hargrave.org Hargrave International: Tel: +44 7760 480448 Email: yachts@hargraveinterntional.com www.hargravecustomyachts.com 104 Floating ASSET - May / June 2014 May / June 2014 - Floating ASSET 105
