The results are extremely encouraging and participants reported an improvement in their sense of wellbeing and confidence. Requires a commitment for the whole program. JULY Monday 17 Friday 21 Balnarring Welcome to Western Port Bay. With stunning beaches, unique gardens and spectacular walking landscapes you won t be short of activities to enjoy and places to discover. You will also have plenty of time to relax and to visit picturesque townships along the way. Thursday 20 Come and Try Bike Riding A day of bike riding around the Yarra River is the perfect way to get some fresh air while enjoying the scenery. Gippsland
AUGUST Wednesday 2 Werribee Park - Ideal for new participants Werribee Mansion is a living, breathing postcard of 19 th century Australia. Surrounded by 10 hectares of beautiful formal gardens, this is a pleasant day outing of exploration and history. Monday 7 Thursday 10 August Aireys Inlet Are you ready for a walk? Come along and enjoy the uplifting benefits of a great walk along the stunning coastline of the Great Ocean Road and let s all be re-energised by being active in the great outdoors. Tuesday 8 Explore Organ Pipes The Organ Pipes is a set of basalt columns formed by the cooling and cracking of molten lava. Come and enjoy a picnic, a walk and the natural features of this unique park. Thursday 10 Come and Try Rafting If you ve ever been curious about rafting, this is the perfect opportunity to try it out. The Yarra in Warrandyte has a mix of fun rapids and calm sections, all in a peaceful bush setting. Monday 14 Friday 18 Winter Retreat Escape the city and connect with nature; relax and unwind on this winter retreat. Tuesday 22 Come and Try Bushwalking Let s get outdoors and discover some bush trails together. Tuesday 29 Wednesday 30 Warburton Winter Walks - Ideal for new participants Get out into the countryside and enjoy short walks in the picturesque Warburton Ranges.
SEPTEMBER Monday 28 August Friday 1 Alpine Adventure If you haven t already had the chance to experience the many facets of the alpine area in winter, this is a perfect opportunity to do so. This trip will be a mix of activities, from visiting country towns to a day of cross-country skiing and snowshoeing (if there is snow!). Tuesday 12 and 19 Mini Bushwalking Sequential Come with us and enjoy this two day bushwalking sequential. (Please note: only those participants who are able to commit to the two days of the sequential should select this one). Thursday 14 Cranbourne Botanic Gardens - Ideal for new participants Enjoy a stroll through these native gardens which are home to a thriving local bird and animal community, including several rare and endangered species. Monday 18 Friday 22 Rafting Journey on the Mitchell River A magnificent rafting journey along East Gippsland s remote and stunning Mitchell River. Tuesday 26 Wednesday 27 Toolangi - Ideal for new participants The renowned Victorian poet, C.J. Dennis once wrote, Now is the healing, quiet hour that fills this gay, green world with peace and grateful rest. Join us as we spend a few days in Dennis home town of Toolangi and be inspired by the majesty of this very special place. Bright
OCTOBER Monday 2 Thursday 5 Multi Activity Come and have some fun and adventure canoeing, bushwalking, and bike riding. There will also be some time to just relax and immerse yourself in the beauty and sounds of the Toolangi bush. Tuesday 10 Come and Try Canoe to An introduction to canoeing and gentle journey on the Yarra River. Monday 16 20 Friday - To be confirmed Out Doors Inc. Healthy by Nature Wellbeing Convention to The convention is a gathering of 40 participants plus staff and guests to explore wellbeing through inspiring guest speakers, interactive 'hands-on' practical workshops, and outdoor activities such as bushwalking, canoeing, and rock climbing. An excellent opportunity to focus on your own wellbeing. The convention will provide a variety of activities to inspire, educate, and invigorate you and promote positive wellbeing. Thursday 26 Riverside Walk Ideal for new participants Come out with us, meet new people, have lunch and enjoy a refreshing walk along one of the city s great waterways. Tuesday 31 Caving Day Come along on a fun day exploring the Britannia Creek Cave near Yarra Junction. Lake Eildon
NOVEMBER Monday 30 October Friday 3 Wyperfeld National Park With its vegetated sand dunes and dry riverbeds, Wyperfeld is sometimes described as Victoria s outback. This trip will involve a 2-3 day walk through the area, enjoying the peace and quiet of the bush. Tuesday 31 October Wednesday 1 Yarra Ranges - Ideal for new participants The Yarra Ranges are a great spot to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Towering trees, babbling brooks and spectacular scenery will be on the agenda. Wednesday 8 Friday 10 Bushwalking and Camping Come along for a camping experience together with some day bushwalks. NOVEMBER Thursday 9 Day in the Dandenongs Ideal for new participants Explore the natural beauty and scenery of the Dandenongs. Take the opportunity to get out of town, take a walk in the rainforest and meet some new people. Monday 20 Orienteering Learn how to read a map and compass to navigate in the bush. Tuesday 21 Come and Try Surfing Learn how to surf whilst enjoying all that the beach has to offer. Monday 20 Thursday 23 Cathedral Ranges For those interested in camping. The Cathedrals is a great place to set up a tent in beautiful bush surrounds. We ll do some short walks and enjoy the peaceful Little River flowing beside the camp ground. Cathedral Ranges
DECEMBER Tuesday 5 - Thursday 7 Summer Coastal Camp Come along for a summer camping trip involving various activities including, swimming, walking and taking in the sights and coastal environment. Monday 11 - Friday 15 Grampians Getaway Explore the Grampians spectacular natural beauty. This trip will offer opportunities to practice mindfulness and to savour the walking tracks, wildlife, lookouts and waterfalls in the breathtaking and rugged landscape. Thursday 14 A Day at the Beach Join us for a relaxing day at the beach with a group of friendly faces. Enjoy some beach games, a picnic lunch and splash in the water. Wilsons Promontory
EQUIPMENT Out Doors Inc. provides all the equipment for the activities we run. This includes good quality waterproof jackets and over pants so we can still have fun in the rain. Generally on day programs, all you need to bring are some comfortable clothes to suit the weather, a hat and a drink bottle. However, it is always a good idea to check each trip invitation you receive to make sure there is no additional items you need to bring. NB: Please note that this calendar is correct at time of printing but is subject to change. TYPES OF PROGRAM Ideal for New Participants Days These programs are the first step for new participants and are designed to provide an insight into the types of activities that are available. This is also an opportunity for new participants to get to know staff and other participants. Come & Try Come & Try are a great opportunity to give new activities a go. If you have ever wondered what it would be like to go rock climbing or canoeing then Come & Try are the times to let your curiosity get the better of you. Overnight Programs Overnight programs are a great way to get away from the city for a few days, to have a more in - depth go at some of the activities that we run and enjoy the peace of the bush. Sequential Programs Sequential Programs offer you an opportunity to develop your skills in a particular activity over a number of weeks and may include overnight camps. PROGRAM COSTS Day Programs Most of our day programs cost participants $6.00. Overnight Programs Overnight Programs cost between $25.00 - $60.00 depending on the number of days and activities. Sequential Programs Sequential Programs cost between $25.00 - $85.00 AGENCY SERVICES We are able to offer additional tailored programs to agencies utilising our unique skills and approach. HOW TO BECOME INVOLVED To get involved participants need to have a diagnosed psychiatric disability and be aged 16 and over and living in the North or East metropolitan of Melbourne. First step in registering with Out Doors People who wish to refer someone or themselves to Out Doors must first fill out a Referral Form which can be downloaded from the website or by contacting our office. The completed form can be returned to us either in person, via email, post or fax. Contact details can be found on the back of this booklet. Invitation to Participant Information Session Once the completed referral form is received, your details will be placed on a waiting list. When your name comes to the top of the list, Out Doors will invite you (and if relevant, your support person) to attend a short information session held at our office. Through our programs, participants find opportunities to get away from the day-to-day and out into the bush with friendly groups.
