Page 2 Fall 2014 Ashokwahta Tehtas Page 11 Lodge Adviser s Minute Another year is almost over, before we know it, we will be celebrating New Year s. Two of the year end duties that need to be done by the lodge is the audit of the membership and completing the lodge charter. This year we have the choice of completing the charter electronically or doing it on paper, but next year it becomes mandatory to do the charter electronically. Because we have a choice this year we are doing it electronically to get all of the bugs worked out so that next year the charter will be a breeze. The audit of the membership is also done electronically by taking the member information out of Lodgemaster and inputting it into Scoutnet, and then the audit results are exported out of Scoutnet into Lodgemaster. This is a really easy straight forward process, but if any of the member information is incorrect, it will not work. Letters have already been sent out to members that we do not have a BSA ID number for. One of the people that responded had a birthdate of 1950, but in Lodgemaster it was listed as 1968, without the correct birthdate it will say you are not a member of the BSA, so we are trying to make sure all of the information is correct in Lodgemaster. On the registration forms this year we have been trying to collect as much information as possible so that we can complete the year end membership audit with as few problems as possible, unfortunately some people have not filled out the registration paperwork completely, so we have not been able to verify their information is correct in Lodgemaster. Fall Weekend 2014 This year s Fall Fellowship Weekend was a great success! As the taskmaster for this weekend, I saw that a lot of significant tasks get completed. Not only were we able to put down all the tents and cots at camp, but we were able to take a count of what we needed for next year s camping season! We also made significant progress cleaning the tool shed in the craft barn, as well as the upper and lower sections of the barn! The Ceremonies Teams looked great and Dominic Brown is doing a fantastic job as our new Ceremonies Chair! The weekend went great and I d like to thank everyone who was able to show up and help out! Yours in Service, Spencer Cottman Next Summer August 3 8 2015, the next NOAC will be taking place at Michigan State University. With Cool shows, good food and the ability to sleep in dorms instead of outside for the whole week, what s not to like? Also 12,000 other people from across the country will be joining you in the hundred year anniversary of the OA. You will also be able to do fun activities such as swimming and rock climbing. Even better free Wi-Fi. Jonathan Doherty

Page 10 Fall 2014 Ashokwahta Tehtas Page 3 OA High Adventure Hello my name is Jacob Dawson, I am the current secretary for the Ashokwahta Lodge. This past summer, I went to the OA high adventure camp in West Virginia called the Summit. This was an amazing experience. As many of you know, going with the OA requires you to do service for about half the time you are there, but the work was rewarding and fun. Our crew worked on building trails for the National Parks Service. After our service was complete our crew was able to enjoy so much of what the Summit has to offer. Our crew went white water rafting, mountain climbing, mountain biking, and rappelling. We also did the second longest Zip Line in the world, going about 60 miles an hour as we traveled down it. We also did a canopy zip line and what was called the Leap of Faith. All these events were extremely fun and made the entire week worth the trip. So, if you want to try a high adventure camp but don t want to go too far away go to the summit Bechtel Reserve in WV. Lodge Adviser s Minute, Cont d To make it a little easier to fill out the registration forms, here is a little hint about the information that we have been trying to verify, if you look on page four of the OA handbook, there is a place to fill out all of the information we have been requesting so that you have it handy. We are getting new stuff that will be available in the lodge trading post next year. Belts are available for preorder any time between now and March. We will be placing the order for the belts at the beginning of March so that we will have them available at the spring weekend. Another new item we are going to have is knives. The lodge chief has approved the style of knife and all we are waiting for the graphics design, and then we are going to order them. The cost for the knives will be $25.00 or less, depending on the final cost from the supplier. At the last Council of Chiefs (COC) meeting it was approved that each lodge can set up their trading post and sell items at the next year s conclave at camp Woodland. So if there are any ideas for things you would like to see in available from the lodge trading post, please let one of the officers know. We will get the items and make them available to the lodge members as well as the members of the other lodges in our section. If you have any patches that you would like to donate to the Banquet patch auction, please drop them off at either of the council service centers and let them know they are for the OA patch auction.

Ashokwahta Tehtas Page 8 Order of the Arrow Troop Representatives The Lodge is always looking to improve the effectiveness of the OA Troop Representative program and number of OA Troop Representatives within the council. A Troop/Team Representative should: Make at least one high adventure presentation to the unit annually Coordinate the Ordeal induction process for newly elected candidates Participate in unit members paths to Brotherhood Lead community service projects for the unit Advocate environmental stewardship and Leave No Trace camping The OA Troop Representative program serves an integral function as a way to enhance the experience of youth in the Order of the Arrow. The program also aims to help communications among the unit, Chapter, and Lodge thrive. Use the opportunity now to take your unit to the next level by making involvement in the Troop Representative program a priority! Members who have not paid, as per the guidelines of the Ashokwahta Lodge, have been dropped from the mailing list. Those members no longer current with Lodge dues were considered inactive. Payment of the 2014 dues will bring into line those members who have not remained current in dues --- $8.00 per year. The first line of your mailing label indicates the year your dues are paid through. Those showing 2013 will be dropped at the end of the year. Reminder : If a fellow Arrowman tells you they are not receiving the newsletter, please have them update their home address by calling Judy Anderson at the Batavia office. Phone number 1-585 343 0307
