Dining at Snow Farm You are in for a treat! Meals with fellow classmates and instructors are a focal point of our community. We serve homemade, wholesome food. In addition to your savory main course, fresh breads, desserts, a fully stocked salad bar (lunch and dinner) and a hot and cold beverage counter are on offer. Gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan and dairy-free diets can be accommodated with advance notice via the student health form. Extra Curricular Activities Open studio is available on Saturday and Sunday evenings for those who wish to stay and work. Refer to your Overview / Student Supply List or our website for specific guidelines for your studio. Commuter and Residential students alike are encouraged to take part in the following activities: Friday Pop Up in Glassblowing Make your own Paperweight You will want to show up early and get a piece of the hot-shop action! Two Snow Farm hot-shop regulars will be on hand to demonstrate some glassblowing techniques. Brave students can jump in and try their own hand at making a paperweight in this fascinating medium. Friday Reception and Instructor Slides There will be a welcoming reception in the common room a chance to get to know some of your fellow classmates prior to kicking off our formal programming. After dinner, there will be a brief orientation, followed by Instructor Slides. Each instructor will present for 5-10 minutes, showing images of their work and discussing their inspiration, techniques, and lives as artists. There will be time to ask questions and get to know the instructors over some dessert and conversation. Saturday Guest Artist Presentation To Be Announced This will be an opportunity to learn from a fellow educator on ways they have used art to effectively engage and inspire their school community. Sunday Working with a Limited Color Palette: Guest Artist Demonstration Ed S Brickler, Art Education Director & Technical Consultant at Chartpak, will demonstrate color-mixing techniques and explain the importance of working with a limited palette in order to get a good grasp on color mixing. The palette he works with is a warm and cool primary palette. Handouts and samples will be provided. Monday - The Art Reception, Auction and Evening Activity The Art Reception features work made by students and instructors during the week accompanied by wine and hors d oeuvres. A few volunteers from each class will be asked to help set up the show between 4:00-5:00pm. The reception starts at 5:00pm and is followed by a special dinner. The Auction is a lively event that raises money for Snow Farm s High School Program Scholarship Fund. Both staff and participants may donate work to be auctioned; prices range from $2 to $100 or more anything goes! We have had tiny sketches, cast-off castings, prints, finished pieces, you name it. We are grateful for all participation! We will finish off the evening with some Smores around the campfire (weather permitting) or activities in the common room.

Campus and Surroundings Snow Farm s spacious, professionally equipped studios and accommodations are housed in both contemporary and historic farm buildings. Campus is peaceful and inspirational with a variety of bird and animal life, plants, trees, pastures and woodland. All of Snow Farm s buildings are within walking distance across grass fields and gentle hills. Nearby, there are plenty of lakes, rivers, hiking and cross-country trails, antique shops, colleges and museums. The Williamsburg Market, Pharmacy/Hardware, and General stores are all right down the road. Accommodations If you are staying at Snow Farm in a standard single or double room, you will be housed in one of a cluster of small living modules designed by a local architect. Accommodations are rustic and simple. The bedrooms each have 2 twin beds, a shelf unit, wall pegs, an overhead light, and a table with a small reading lamp. Each of our four living modules consists of a series of bedrooms opening onto a "corridor" which is essentially a roofed deck open at either end. Each module has its own centrally located bathroom with two each: toilet stalls, sinks, and hot showers. One module is mixed gender with two bathrooms. If you are staying in one of our two new deluxe singles, your room will feature one twin bed, a comfy armchair, a desk and some extra comforts. You will have access to an en-suite bathroom, shared with the other deluxe single. If you are staying in the cottage, you will have a one bedroom with 2 single beds, a private bath, a sitting room, a kitchenette, and an outdoor seating area. We provide sheets, blankets, a pillow & case, and 2 bath towels (no wash cloth). Packing Some Suggested Items Depending on the forecast, many of our guests have found the following items useful: - A flashlight or headlamp - Water bottle and/or travel mug - Hiking/walking shoes - In rainy weather: Rain or mud boots, raincoat or umbrella - Layered clothing & warm layers for the evening - Extra blanket, warm pajamas, robe, slippers - Toiletries (soap, shampoo, face cloth), shower shoes - Earbuds and a tablet/laptop for watching videos or listening to media - A small personal clip-on light for reading in your dorm room at night (if sharing a room) - In warm weather: A fan for your room - A bathing suit (local swimming holes) - Sunscreen & bug repellent
