Day 2: Sunday, June 24, 2012 After an orientation tour of Rapid City, we will visit the Crazy Horse Memorial which was built in honor of the fearless Sioux Indian chief whose fame is derived from the Battle of the Little Bighorn. Afterward, explore Mount Rushmore National Memorial, which features the carved likenesses of four U.S. presidents - Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, and Roosevelt - on the mountainside. You re invited to stroll along the Presidential Trail for more intimate views or visit the Information Center. Today, breakfast is included. Day 3: Monday, June 25, 2012 This morning you will journey through the rolling Black Hills National Forest to Tatanka, Wyoming. Here, learn The Story of the Bison, and experience the richness of the Lakota people who are a Plains Indian buffalo culture. Afterward, experience more of the area s colorful history with a guided tour of Deadwood. Deadwood was once a wild, gold-mining town. We will hear the stories of legendary Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane. Then, we will continue through Wyoming s Powder River Basin to the cattle town of Sheridan, Wyoming which rests at the foot of the Bighorn Mountains. Today, breakfast and dinner are included.
Day 4: Tuesday, June 26, 2012 Journey this morning into southern Montana to visit Little Bighorn Battlefield, the site commemorating one of America s most famous battles. Tour the battlegrounds where Custer was defeated by approximately 7,000 Lakota, Cheyenne, and Arapaho warriors, and visit the museum there. Afterward, we continue our scenic drive through the Bighorn Mountains with a stop at Shell Falls before continuing on to Buffalo Bill s Cody, Wyoming. Today you will have time for an optional float trip on the Shoshone River. Today, breakfast is included. Day 5: Wednesday, June 27, 2012 This morning, we will visit the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, a fine museum of historic weapons and Western art. Then, continue through the Shoshone National Forest to Yellowstone National Park. Yellowstone was established in 1872 as the world s first national park to preserve a natural habitat where wild animals roam freely in vast meadows and forest. You will have several opportunities for photo stops along the way to our hotel, including world-famous Old Faithful Geyser. Today, breakfast and dinner are included. Day 6: Thursday, June 28, 2012 Spend the day exploring Yellowstone. Travel along Grand Loop Road to Fountain Paint Pots to see the bubbling mud. Continue on to the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone with magnificent views of Yellowstone Canyon and the spectacular Lower Falls, which boasts being almost twice as high as Niagara Falls. Next stop, Mammoth Hot Springs and here we will take a short trail walk through steaming limestone terraces. Today, breakfast is included. Day 7: Friday, June 29, 2012 Journey south this morning into breathtaking Grand Teton National Park. Visit beautiful glacier-fed Jenny Lake at the foot of the rugged spires for a delightful walk along the shore before ending the day in the all-western town of Jackson. This evening you will experience dinner at the Bar T-5 Chuck Wagon Cookout and Wild West show. Today, breakfast and dinner are included. Day 8: Saturday, June 30, 2012 Today you have a full day at your leisure in Jackson to enjoy this spectacular playground. Perhaps choose an optional float trip along the Snake River or stroll along the downtown boardwalks and enjoy a drink at one of the swing-door saloons. Today, breakfast is included. Day 9: Sunday, July 01, 2012 Today we journey continues alongside some of Wyoming s most beautiful mountain ranges into Utah, home to five national parks. We will arrive in Salt Lake City, founded by Brigham Young in 1847. Here we will enjoy a sightseeing tour of the capital city and its historic monuments. This evening, our Tour Director hosts a special farewell dinner at Temple Square. Today, breakfast and dinner are included. Day 10: Monday, July 02, 2012 Your vacation ends this morning as we travel back to Bloomington/Normal with great memories to last a lifetime! Today, breakfast is included.
